I started learning Gymnopedie No.1 last month but ran out of time. So happy to finally learn and record it this month

Hi everyone!
I haven’t had as much time to practice this month so I’ve been working on a few songs from the beginners set within the Pathway course, but mostly cleaning up the Chunking Etude and trying to bring it up to speed. This is where I am now. I know I posted my progress on this song last month too, so if I need a different song for this challenge I can post my current progress on the Travis Picking (which needs more work…) or Finger Picking Etude No 37 (which I just absolutely love to play, and it’s been a good exercise to go back to this when working on the Travis picking and switching between the patterns).

Hi everybody!
I have learned the fingerpicking etude no. 37 for this challenge.
At the beginning I thought that it would be easier than the first lesson, because of the repetitive pattern.
But then I really struggled with the bar chord in measure 11 in combination with ring finger on 7 and pinky on 8 of the A string. I did’t get a clear sound. I tried it a hundred times or more, each single string, trying to press my fingers harder on the strings, until I finally got this result.If you have any tips for me, please let me know. Thank you!

When I started working through the Pathways beginner section, I looked at, tried briefly, and skipped over the Chunking Etude because it involves the two things I’m least comfortable with: chunking and quick chord changes. Then I thought that’s not the way to go about learning, so I went back to it and struggled my way through. It still doesn’t come easily, but at least I can now tick that one off the list (and go back to now and then to try and increase the tempo).
@Andrew – following the advice you gave to another student, Also had the tab viewer on Synthetic with the metronome clicking in my ear. It helped me so much with the timing at 100 bpm. I will continue to use it like that to see if I can get “Waltz in C #2” faster and faster. 😜
I’ve been trying to watch everyone’s videos and they are great! I’m just not a big chatty person, in typing comments, anyway! Last Fall, after seeing some of you with the Lark wireless mics, I bought a HollyLand Lark A2 and it has great sound.

This is my August submission of Travis Picking.
I had to cut way down on practice this month, dealing with trigger thumb in both thumbs.
Hoping for relief this week.

You played it well. Evan is so incredible. To think he was 13 when he played that blows my mind. I’m hoping to record mine today too. I tried last night but it was too sloppy 🙈I am a premium member.
This month, I practiced the “Navigating the Fretboard + Swing Feel” lesson. This was the first time I played anything with a swing rhythm at this BPM, so it was a double challenge for me. I think I could practice this for another 2–3 months! 🙂
I chose to go back to basics with some beginner lessons. I loved playing this Waltz piece. I needed to finger discipline but I actually felt musical when i was playing it! Thanks for the lesson Andrew 🥰
I was practicing and recording while babysitting my youngest grandchild on Friday afternoon. The older ones were at school. He was so cute listening to me try to make music!😜 There are a few “hiccups” in my performance, but i decided to make this one my final video so I could play with him. I added a bonus video of us dinking around on the piano afterwards.
Here is my August submission of EP014: 5 Strum Patterns: 5 Levels. I spent most of the month working on Harmonizing C Major (EP002) but didn’t think I was ready to record. So I moved on to the strumming lesson and really enjoyed how the techniques build upon each other. I want to do more ghost strumming! The mistake in the first measure bugs me, but I am embracing the plan to just keep going, and the rest of the take was better than my others. These lessons are very helpful! Happy end of summer. I look forward to catching up on viewing your submissions.

Here’s my August challenge submission: A Dreamy Fingerpicking Etude. 😊
Fingerpicking is still very new territory for me, so I’m definitely at the “figuring out which finger is supposed to do what” stage. 😄
I didn’t have quite as much time to practice this month, so the picking isn’t always as smooth and continuous as it should be. I’m sure a few more weeks… or possibly months 😉 of practice will help with that!

It was such a busy month that I could progress only a few units of my Pathways. I picked Travis Picking for this month. Videotaping helped me admit my jumpy finger picking, and I tried to play less jumpy. Still need to work on it though.

Haven’t played my uke in awhile. Decided to finally jump back into it. This is fingerpicking etude no. 25 morning dew. I liked the sound of the song and was an easier one to memorize. It’s not perfect but was a fun one to learn and practice the hammer ons pull offs and slides. I am thinking of getting a concert uke and putting on a low G cause it’s a more comfortable size for me. But anyways thank you for the lesson!
