    Hi Rock Class 101 Community!

    _______________

    GOALS FOR MEMBER CHALLENGE:

    1. Beginners: Be able to play one of the lessons as shown by Andrew smoothly and in time. Do not worry about trying to play fast, slow and steady wins the race 🙂

Recommended Piece: In The Hall Of The Mountain King (Melody)

    2. Intermediate Level: Be able to play the lesson as shown by Andrew smoothly, in time, and at or close to the original piece’s tempo.

Recommended Piece: Ode To Joy or Fur Elise

Recommended Piece: Canon in D or Jesu, Joy Of Man’s Desiring

    4. Participation Goal: 30 Rock Class 101 Member Participant Videos/MP3 posted.

    _______________

    GROUND RULES FOR PARTICIPATION:

    1. Post your Youtube, Vimeo, or Soundcloud links of you playing one of the 5 classical pieces anytime between Monday, May 1st till Wednesday, May 31st, 11:59pm EST.

    2. Submit individually, as a reply, IN THIS POST.

    3. Feel free to submit more than one video for the challenge, but additional videos will not count as extra entries into the raffle for the prize.

    4. Have fun and don’t be intimidated by this challenge!!! Use this challenge to help you set goals and complete them by a deadline. You can also use this as an opportunity to chat with your fellow Rock Class 101 members and share tips or tricks on this challenge that you think are useful.

    5. You must perform the entire piece to receive an entry into the prize raffle.

    * Note: In my opinion, it is better to show progress versus perfection with these challenges. So if you are a beginner and can only play the first couple of measures. That is completely ok. If you play two more measures of the next challenge piece than you did the previous one, you are on track to getting better. This is what these challenges are about… you learning ukulele and getting better. Remember we are all here to support you no matter what your current playing level is.

Does it necessary to play ukulele exactly like the tutorial, Andrew?

Well, there are two ways to answer this cyclopsphucle:

    1) Yes, you must play our arrangement. For ex: if you know a single note version of “Ode to Joy” and submit that, it will not qualify as entry into the giveaway. Plus, this challenge is related to Rock Class 101 material, so most likely I will have to delete that performance from this post.

Members are always welcome to post any video/audio performance in this forum (regardless of: if it’s a Rock Class 101 lesson or something you learned elsewhere): Showcase Your Playing.

    2) If your question is more-so: I am a very beginner and struggle to make it through the entire piece. Then, please post what you can play! I’m here to help and will give pointers and feedback to all who participate. But, again please note that the entire performance is required to receive an entry into the giveaway.

Let’s go practice! Unfortunately I have only 17 frets, so “In the hall of the mountain king” is out.
    But it wasn’t my choice! 😀 😀 😀

Well, my ukuleles 15th fret sounds like a cat dying(intonation problem), so Canon in D is out. 🙂 I’ll be doing jesu, joy of mans desiring. 🙂

andracass, you can still play Mountain King. Andrew says play themes 1-2-1-2-5 if you don’t have the higher frets. But with 15 frets I can get theme 3 too, so I’m doing 1-2-3-2-5. Still sounds good. Or it will when I get it smoother. 🙂

Thank you, lisadmh! I have not yet attended that lesson, I just looked at the tabs. However, I’ve decided that I will try Fur Elise, even if I am a beginner, it reminds me of the time I was studying the piano. But I need practice 😀
