jbmills07ParticipantThis month was a real challenge for sure. I went with “Nothing Else Matters” this month, main just to see how far I could get. It is so daunting and so many others tackled it so well! So proud of all the others that tried this challenge because I practiced every day and I think it would take me another 11 months to be able to play this song the way I would like to lol. Everyone has done so well with this months challenge! Congrats to everyone 🙂 I actually took the day off from work today and dedicated most of the day to being able to finish this months challenge, and I had to kind of make a Frankenstein’s monster in order to do it in time lol I don’t know if its considered cheating but there are loads of mistakes in it regardless lol
@darktoto Sounds awesome man!
@brettboy Love your performance of the song and also artist take! lol
@otzepeng just as @Andrew said, that was super impressive!
@karenj Nice work! I almost went with Iron Man also 🙂

jedartParticipantHere is my last minute entry. I wish I hade more time to polish this up, but I’ll continue prating and eventually adding in the solo.

ParticipantHello friends 🧡!!! Finally I could play the entire iron man song somehow 😅 🎵 🙌 It was the most difficult challenge I have participated so far …..scary to even try at first but thanks @andrew and @leb397 for your kind and inspiring words 🙏 ❤️ I could at least give it a try…..lots of more practise required though, will keep on doing it …..😁😇

mysticrickParticipantJake doesn’t sing. There is a reason.
Moondance is in my Top Five all time tunes. I have been intimate with it since a teenager. I am a PREMIUM MEMBER.
This challenge gave me an opportunity to deep dive into the song. The first two weeks of October focused on the solo. That was not easy and took a lot of practice. The past week focused on the details of the RC101 arrangement, getting wrong lyrics memorized over decades replaced with the actual lyrics and trying to record 3.5 minutes without error and reasonable musicianship. There remains a way to go.
This current version represents a LOT of repetition and practice and I recognize that rhythmn needs improvement. Progress not Perfection. Thanks to Ashley, Evan and Steven for creating an awesome version of this Iconic tune and to Andrew for picking apart the solo.
Thanks to all of you October participants. You hard work is bearing fruit.A sidenote about “Moondance”…Collin Tilton played Flute and Tenor sax on the recording. He was paid very little for this. Today Collin is the Sax Player for Eight To The Bar a New England-based Swing Combo.
Jake doesn’t sing. There is reason.

robinboydParticipantThis is very far from perfect or even good, but I ran out of time so it will have to do.

This is my October submission of Moondance.
This was way out of my comfort zone as far as singing goes but I guess it’s supposed to be good to push ourselves out of our comfort zone once in a while.October 31, 2025 at 3:15 pm #76404
AndrewKeymasterFriendly Reminder – The deadline for receiving feedback and an entry into the giveaway is tonight at 11:59 PM ET (check your local time zone).

Oh, dear… so I sorely underestimated the difficulty of this tune, Aerials, whilst also sorely overestimating my ability to learn it quickly. Only having a couple of hours before a party tonight, this is the best I could do with the limited time that remains. I think portions of the performance are actually pretty okay except for the strumming sections which are a complete train wreck, yet… personal best…? For me, I would have to memorize every single up and down stroke and each chord change and take it one “1 e and a” at a time like 4SB suggested in the lesson. I definitely am going to go back and do that because this tune is really, really cool, but this is what it is for now. So sorry for anyone who witnesses my struggle, especially to you Andrew. Thank you for this amazing challenge and amazing tunes – and everyone’s amazing performances! 🥰
…
Oh my word, so, after I wrote that and was about to post my first take, I realize I forgot more than one section of the song and had to re-recorded. In my panic (running out of time to get ready, too), I feel like this take is even worse than the first one, but everything is there-ish. I’m so sorry; it’s so bad. 😂😂
Okay, watching it back, it isn’t *as* bad as I thought. You can tell the processing power of my brain is maxed out with the strumming sections though, but even those are not *as* bad as I thought. Gah, sorry, okay, here it is:

bibileleParticipantHi everyone, I first tried to tackle “Bad moon rising” but then realized that this is not my song for this month. 😅 So here is a very imperfect Iron Man, but I’m very happy to have a submission at all.

In embracing the principle of “progress, not perfection”, here’s my Oct submission, “Moondance”. If we do a de-ja-vu sometime later to revisit a previously recorded song, I would probably choose this one. I didn’t practice as much as I wanted, but that just helps me know I can continue to improve it in the future. This one was definitely trickier than I first though. It seemed like it would easy because the song is so repetitive, but it’s a fairly quick tempo (I recorded at 92%), has the dreaded bar chords, a funky rhythm, a chunk, a tricky stretch, then 2nd/3rd chorus which jumps up the fretboard with a fingering I found difficult (so I modified to omit string 4 in those sections just to get the sound out), it’s also longer than I’m used to playing so my brain gets a little tired (forgetting lyrics) and oh yeah, just singing (on key?) at the same time as playing to a long and fairly fast song with a funky rhythm. Shwoow – this was a challenge indeed!
FYI, when I prepared the video, I included the RC101 audio/video from the onscreen player to make it a little more interesting. I lowered the volume on the RC101 audio to just barely be able to hear the bass (Stephen) and then I ramped it back up when Evan’s solo part came in. Ashley’s voice is so lovely, but I purposely turned it all very low so you heard my voice instead of hers (yes, I would have rather heard her voice – haha).

🎃 Happy Halloween, RC101!
I went with “Aerials” by System of a Down for this month’s challenge. I totally agree with @TheBumbleBard — this one was tough, especially that syncopated strumming section! 😅
Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks, y’all!
