    Hi!

This is my entry! I’m posting it a few days before the deadline, even though I would have loved to have more time to practice—but this will have to do 🙂
Here’s “House of the Rising Sun” by Matt Dahlberg, adapted to fit Low G. It’s a very fun arrangement, and I’d love to learn more like this. I really enjoy the combination of strumming and fingerpicking. The chord changes are challenging, and I’ll definitely keep working on this song. The goal is to be able to play it as smoothly and fast as Matt! Who knows—maybe I’ll get there someday.

    Happy Friday everyone!

Thank you @Andrew for the link to Matts tutorial. It was very helpful. Matt is really my favorite teacher because he always explains everything so well, talks about how be most efficient. I have practiced a lot this week and the chord changes have become much more fluent.
I guess I’ll practice a couple more days before it is time to hit the record button. Until then – happy weekend to everyone.

    Hi everyone!
Here comes a short update on my progress 😊
I had to make a couple of fingerpicking adjustments to Matt’s arrangement so the song sounds good with a Low G ukulele. Check!
The strumming pattern is awesome—I really love it—and it only took a couple of days to learn. Check!
What I still struggle with the most are the chord changes. My fingers have always been a bit clumsy—ever since I picked up my first guitar when I was a kid—so this has been a lifelong companion. I’d really like to get past this invisible hurdle that always seems to be there. If anyone has advice, tips, or exercises that helped them improve fluidity and confidence in chord transitions, I’d love to hear them.
    Thanks so much!
    /Michaela

    Hi,

    Happy New Year!

Execution: I will work on an arrangement by Matt Dahlberg. My goal is to practice this piece for at least 15 minutes every day. The arrangement includes both fingerpicking and strumming. My goals are to learn a new strumming pattern, improve fluidity in fingerpicking and chord changes, develop good rhythm, and, most importantly, have fun.

Application: House of the Rising Sun

Evaluation: I will provide a progress update once a week.

    @grannieannie
Yes, the barr chords are tuff! I’m happy with my recording despite a couple of buzzing strings here and there 😁 I gave it my best and learned a lot along the way.

    Hello friends!

For this month’s challenge, I chose “Maybe I’m Still Amazed,” written by Andrew.
I absolutely love this song, and fingerstyle on a Low G ukulele is one of my favorite ways to play.

Learning this piece came with its fair share of challenges. One of them was the lack of muscle strength in my left hand, so I practiced daily to build that up. I also worked on improving my fretting accuracy to reduce buzzing, and I focused on getting the timing right for the pull-offs and strums.

I wish I’d had more time to practice, but I’m quite happy with how it turned out—even if it took about a hundred takes to get a good recording! This challenge was extra fun because we’re on vacation, and I wanted to include some video footage of the beautiful place we’re staying at.

Hope you’re all having a fantastic summer!

    Hej from Sweden!
Here’s my take on “Song Of Storms”, this month I had help from my wife who played the piano part. Our performance is far from perfect but having a music project to work on together was really fun! Have a lovely summer everyone!

Here is my entry for the May 2025 Member Challenge: Duality.

Unfortunately, I ran out of practice time—I really wish I’d had more time to work on this one. This song was a real challenge for me: unfamiliar chord shapes, fast transitions, and on top of that, my arthritis flared up. I had to do a bit of editing to get the video finished in time.

That said, I’ve learned a lot this month. I even feel like I gained a bit more confidence. It was a lot of fun learning both parts, and I also picked up a thing or two (or five!) about recording and editing in iMovie.

Thank you for your kind words.
I have been playing and strumming (mostly guitar) for many years, very basic strumming patterns though and very often, when I play a song, I kinda find a strumming pattern that fits the song. Again very basic. I enjoyed this lesson very much and I will continue to explore other strumming patterns as well. Thank you for this fantastic challenge! I really enjoy being a member here and I get very inspired by everybody’s performances.
The monthly challenges are great, to learn a new song or a new technique within a reasonable time frame works really well for me. 🙂
