Hi everyone! This is my most recent recording of Fingerpicking Etude no. 36.
The first time around I played the piece too fast, I was rushing through it. This time I feel I am more comfortable with everything, playing the piece and filming myself while playing it. I enjoyed recording it and it sounds like I succeeded in letting the strings ring longer because of more accurate fretting which results in less buzzing.
Sorry for the bad quality of the video, I will record in higher resolution from now on. I didn’t realize it was bad because I am doing everything on my phone. At least the sound quality is better in this video.
I hope you’ll enjoy it anyways.
I know I enjoy watching everybody’s entries, great job everyone!

    Hi!
I am revisiting the very first piece I posted during the November 2024 challenge.
    Fingerpicking Etude no 36
I had to relearn the entire piece, I forget so quickly sometimes. But then the muscle memory kicks in and it all comes back, one was able to almost pick up where I left off.
I am working on getting rid of buzzing, good fretting = clearer tones and fluidity. I hope I will be able to share a really nice performance.
    Here comes the November version:

    Hi!
I chose “Blue Skies” by Matt Dahlberg for this months challenge, and a challenge it was and still is. It is such a beautiful piece and I love playing it. I wish I could have played it at original speed though but that will come, my fingers are hurting 😄 I’ll keep practicing. There islots of room for improvement so feel welcome to comment with your tips ❤️
It’s quite easy for me to learn and memorize a new piece but I struggle to play the whole piece at once without making mistakes, I can get so frustrated with myself sometimes. Well, it’s done so.. Great entries by everyone so far!

I’m not very happy about my performance because of limited time to practice this month but hey! The important thing is that I did learn a new piece and it was fun. I did learn a few new other things along the way.
I’m impressed by all the amazing performances of everyone! Well done you all! Good luck! 🍀

    Hi!
    Happy January!
It doesn’t come naturally to me, never has. I was introduced to playing guitar back in high school I think. I never got any good at it but I didn’t let go either. A couple of years back I bought my first Ukulele and it’t is such a fun instrument, I’ll have to get better at playing! I keep challenging myself and I am so happy that I found RC101. I am mostly self taught but I also know I need guidance, a direction and challenges. For January my goal is to learn a new piece, get better at a certain technique (thumb picking) and look less often at my fretting hand while playing.

    1) Execution: I will delve deeper into chord melody and thumb picking. I (thought I) picked an easy song, but the more I play it I realise the challenge is in the details. Building finger strength, tempo and fluidity, clean pull-offs and sweet sounding slides.

    2) Application: I will apply this to Matt Dahlbergs arrangement of Auld Lang Syne. It’s a short piece but I will put all efforts into playing it correctly and with lot’s of “feel”.

    3) Evaluation: I hope I’ll be able to play this at the end of the month despite very limited time to practice. I also hope I’ll be able to play without looking at my fretting hand ALL the time, I need to get more confident in placing my fingers correctly at the fretboard.

    O Come All Ye Faithful.
To learn to play this Christmas Carol was a real challenge for me and I will keep practicing every day. I want to get more fluid and secure in playing with my thumb, something I’ve never done before. For now it’ll have to be good enough as my contribution for the December challenge. Thank you everyone at Rock Class 101 and well done! and good luck to everyone who is participating in the challenge. Merry Christmas!
