    Agreed that the picks are awesome! I’ve been dealing with some “tennis elbow” as the call it, so had to take last month off, but I’m hoping to get at least one entry in this month!

    I went with Red is the Rose for this month’s challenge, and boy was it a challenge! That last section is a doosy! @jody_hendrickson Well done tackling it and nicely played! I saw @brettboy perform it with the Baritone, and I practiced a bit with it because I loved the way it sounded, but I just couldn’t manage the size with the speed! Well done to everyone this month!

    I have wanted to do Imagine for a long time and decided this was the perfect month to try and really get it down. So that is what I went with. One of my biggest challenges was actually the slide from 1-2-3. I found it very difficult to get consistent, so I found myself spending a large amount of time doing that over and over and over lol. So many amazing performances from all the participants this month, its really cool to watch!

    Oh man! This is a tough month for me! So hard to pick something and how to tackle it. But do to the population I play for most often, I wanted to pick something I can use at work (nursing home), and so I am going with “Heart and Soul”

    Execution: I struggle to put myself into a skill level. So I have to say right off the bat that I feel I’m in a similar boat to @The_Bumble_Bard when it comes to labelling my skill level… Some days I feel like a budding intermediate, and other days I still feel like a solid beginner. Definitely depends on the song and the techniques used. So I think Heart and Soul would be a great pick because it is referred to as a beginner friendly song, and yet I struggle with it quite a bit. It would be nice to get this song down enough that I appear to be closer to intermediate while playing it!

    Application: I want to focus on a couple aspects of this song that I struggle with. The slap/tap move that acts similar to a chuck, and the switching between fingering a strumming, and of course the stretch. In the lesson Andrew says the hardest part of the song is the stretch, but I disagree! lol 🙂 I do need to work on my stretch, but I can tell that the slap/tap is going to be much more difficult for me to get down and smooth.
    My plan is to practice every day after work for at least 15-20 minutes. And to also practice for a few of my more supportive residents lol.

    Evaluation: I am going to record several of my practice sessions and see my progress and also, play for some residents during the learning phase and seeing if they are able to see improvements as well.

    I hope I did this correctly!! lol good luck everyone!!

    Here is my take on Always With Me. This was a big challenge! I knew I wanted to learn it from the first time I heard Steven play it. I love Studio Ghibli films and Spirited Away is one of my favorites. I wanted to try and get some better takes in tonight, but my fingers literally hurt so much from playing that I physically can’t play tonight lol. So I went with a take I got from last night and I added some outtakes with Ziggy at the end for all the Ziggy Stardust lovers out there lol. Everyone has done so well this month! I am blown away at how many people tackled this very difficult yet beautiful and rewarding song!

    @shmu88 Your words really resonated with me, as I have the same issue! A lot of times I will go into recording a song and think, a few errors here and there, I will live with it. But then I get a take that could be considered, “good enough”, and I just want to get it better until there is zero errors and its simply never attainable for myself. lol. So, I feel you man, and while listening to you play, I also relate to @The_Bumble_Bard because I really felt the performance. You nailed it by the way, and I only hope I can come close to your performance by the end of this month! Of course, I say all of that while posting this entry in which I make numerous errors, but I am uploading it because Ziggy joined me for the take and he is a crowd favorite. lol

    @jedart
    I also struggled with the time of this medley! You’re not alone, keep up the good work!

    @barbecueblack
    Well played! You sounded beautiful 🙂

    @The_Bumble_Bard that’s so cool that you did that video! It wasn’t exactly what I was thinking when I made the suggestion, but it was awesome! I think sharing those early and vulnerable moments of looking at a new song is very valuable for this group! So BIG props to you for sharing that! Also, most of my takes in the past are from right after work in “scum” mode too, lol, so I understand!

    @dianna
    I totally agree with you! I think these movies are must see movies. I’ve been a big fan of Studio Ghibli for decades! Seen them many times, but I also rewatched them again in prep for learning these songs. Including thinking to the credits of spirited away to hear the lyrical version! Outstanding films.

    @Andrew
    I totally agree with you about melody b. And I knew it while playing it too lol. Believe it or not I did practice with the play along with Matt, but just not as much as I should have. Not a good excuse, but I was very eager to get to work on “Always With Me” and “Path of the Wind” lol.

    @leb397
    thank you so much 🙂 really happy to hear you went out to watch the movie and enjoyed it!!

    @johanna2509 thank you as well! The cats were for sure sleeping near by lol 🙂

    @jgillard
    thank you! Also, your performance was really amazing and I can only hope to come close to it for my own take on Always With Me!!

    @deadbuggy as always, your performance was a joy to listen to and watch! I also want to perform, “Always With Me”, and I have dabbled, but it is a hard song, and you did amazing!

    @johanna2509
    such a beautiful performance! Well done! You played it was so much feeling.

    I missed last month so I want to try and make up for it by doing more than one entry this month, however I ask to not be entered into the current seasons drawing for the Kanile’a. My first entry is for the Avatar medley. It was really cool to do this one because it’s one of the first Rockclass101 songs I attempted but could never quite get. So, coming back to it and tackling it again was rewarding! Still could improve obviously lol, but I noticed improvements for sure!

    @The_Bumble_Bard
    I look forward to your submission, any chance you would consider doing a before and after? An early video and then one toward the end of the month with more practice time? No pressure!! lol

    @The_Bumble_Bard Haha I hope you do give it a chance! If you do, let me know what you think of it once you’ve watched it! I could see Totoro being scary as a kid lol. Spirited Away has a couple freaky moments as well, but overall it’s very family friendly. A lot of studio Ghibli films have this feeling to them of a time when movies could be truly magical and wondrous and scary and moving and for all ages all at once. Like the age of The Neverending story and Labyrinth and such. But also, the animation and music is just truly fantastic.

    Funny you mention that about already having the kanile’a cause I was thinking the same thing. I bowed out of the last couple months, but I wasn’t sure how much longer I should bow out lol.
    Also, thank you so much for the kind words about my performances! I get pretty self conscious about them. I always feel like I’m just at the very edge of not being able to perform the songs at all lol 🙂

    @The_Bumble_Bard I would highly recommend you seek out and watch Spirited Away! I would recommend any of the films from that studio, but Spirited Away is a great place to start, as it’s most people’s favorite and many people’s introduction to anime. They are magical movies that are overflowing with heart. Can’t recommend them enough!
    Also, I also haven’t done this month challenge! I’ve been too side tracked with the new lessons lol. Not sure I will be posting a challenge this month, unless I end up practicing one of the songs this weekend. Lol. I might try haunted uke because it seems the easiest of the picks and maybe it will be doable with limited time.

    @The_Bumble_Bard I am really sorry to hear about your health issues! I hope you are on the mend! Also, I look forward to seeing the visuals you come up with! lol. Also, can I just say I am absolutely loving the Studio Ghibli theme going on right now with the new lessons! I really want to learn the Spirited Away one, but man is it challenging! Have you tackled them at all yet?

    lol. So I thought I responded to this a while back, but then when i revisted the thread I didn’t see it, so I wrote another response, which… took me to page TWO, where my first response was… and I am feeling rather dumb… lol

    @The_Bumble_Bard
    I will totally read your story! I would be honored 🙂 lol. Also, its always fun listening to Matt read your questions, never gets old and I consider it a highlight of the lessons. 🙂
