jbmills07ParticipantThis month was a real challenge for sure. I went with “Nothing Else Matters” this month, main just to see how far I could get. It is so daunting and so many others tackled it so well! So proud of all the others that tried this challenge because I practiced every day and I think it would take me another 11 months to be able to play this song the way I would like to lol. Everyone has done so well with this months challenge! Congrats to everyone 🙂 I actually took the day off from work today and dedicated most of the day to being able to finish this months challenge, and I had to kind of make a Frankenstein’s monster in order to do it in time lol I don’t know if its considered cheating but there are loads of mistakes in it regardless lol
@darktoto Sounds awesome man!
@brettboy Love your performance of the song and also artist take! lol
@otzepeng just as @Andrew said, that was super impressive!
@karenj Nice work! I almost went with Iron Man also 🙂

jbmills07Participant@The_Bumble_Bard I wish I knew immediately roughly what I wanted to do! I like that the last couple months have been more “free for alls” in some ways, and it others, I need a little push in a direction lol. I get choice overloaded and have a hard time committing to one thing when the options are too open lol.
I did watch the superpower live lesson! I might have to watch it again for inspiration because I don’t think of myself having any ukulele superpowers! lol speaking of live lessons, I see another recently dropped on YouTube and I need to watch that when I get out of work today!
It’s very distressing to hear you and your health have been struggling!! I sincerely hope that gets sorted out as soon as possible, and don’t worry at all about TMI. If you feel like sharing something, think you should and not worry about making me or others uncomfortable! As long as you are comfortable:) that being said, your in my thoughts and I truly hope and pray your health will improve soon and you can put this stress and worries behind you. You bring such light and laughter and good vibes to this site that the thought of you not always being in terrific health and spirit is a terrible thought! (As unrealistic as it might be lol).
I don’t think you could forget, but remember you have lots of people here thinking of you and appreciating you and what you bring to others! (Googly eyes on your ukulele being one small example lol)

jbmills07ParticipantHey @the_bumble_bard I’m curious if you have put much more thought into what your going to work on for this months challenge? I’m having a hard time picking! Lol

jbmills07ParticipantWhat an amazing month of performances by so many people! Well done to all! As I posted at the beginning of the month, I picked Sound of Silence to work on this month. Still not 100% happy with the fluidity of the performance, but glad I picked this song as a challenge because I have always wished I could play it!
August 9, 2025 at 7:45 pm #75454
jbmills07Participant1) Execution: I am going to work on Sound of Silence. Its always been one of my favorite songs and I have always wanted to be able to play it. So I want to test my skills and see if I can play it to a standard I am happy with. (not very likely lol).
2) Application: My main take away from this lesson is to keep learning new songs and practicing a little every day. Not sure if that makes sense or applies, but that’s the main reason for me doing this challenge 🙂
3) Evaluation: I may try and record myself early and do a before and after, but mostly I am going to be looking for improvements keeping the tempo with some of the tricky cord transitions
@the_bumble_bard I am also very much looking forward to seeing your performance and this mysterious instrument! I’m not going to lie I laughed at the thought of it being a Kazoo lol.
@leb397 Also looking forward to you tackling the claw hammer! can’t wait!
@nat-uke oh man, it sounds like your entry is going to be cool!-

jbmills07Participant@robinboyd wow you played that beautifully!

jbmills07ParticipantHope everyone is doing well out there! This month I went with “shake it off” by taylor swift. I felt like learning something I wouldn’t normally and thought it would be a good way to practice slides and pull off’s as well.

jbmills07ParticipantYay!! Congrats @The_Bumble_Bard on your new beautiful kitty! I hope he does make many appearances in the videos to come!

jbmills07ParticipantFor this month’s challenge I went with April Smiles.
I struggled with the fingering in the cord melody, especially the last bit. Also, I decided to try and mix it up by practicing some pull offs and hammer ons for this arrangement.
@deadbuggy that was great!March 31, 2025 at 8:18 pm #73362
jbmills07ParticipantJust barely getting this in on time. Everyone has done so amazing this month, so well done to all! I went with Lacrimosa and I was really hoping that a lot of the parts that i found difficult to play before would be much easier! Sadly, it was not lol. All the things I struggled with before I struggled with again! I am not sure how much better this is, but I certainly did work at it a lot! lol.
I think it goes without saying, but please do not enter me into the drawing 🙂
Thank you again to everyone for all the support. Love this group, you guys are the best!

jbmills07ParticipantI did Lacrimosa back in 2022 and have wanted to go back to it for a while and now seems like a good time to do so. My hope is to get my transitions smoother and to not cut the notes off.

jbmills07Participant@marianne and everyone else who has shown so much love and support, thank you. Regina was my person. There was no one else like her and I loved her as much as I could love anything. She passed away this morning. I was rubbing her back and her daughter was holding her hand when she took her last breath, and she was surrounded by loved ones. I am struggling right now, but if you can, priorities your thoughts and prayers to her children, especially Dlyan (named after Bob Dylan), her youngest child who is only 11. Thank you again to everyone and to Rockclass101 for supporting me and giving me this community to share this with. It’s truly special and it was Regina’s love of my learning new songs in rockclass101 that really kept me going.
