diannaParticipant‘SkyeBoating’ here too…..taking me back to my roots…such a lovely Scottish folk song…love Matt’s arrangement.
@The_Bumble_Bard I also watched the AI video and was blown away that in 10secs it had created something so intricate and challenging…..But, I am curious about originality since it pulls from preexisting databases of man-made music…..and is it truly inspired or just cut and paste?
Good-luck to my fellow skyeboaters and everyone else on this challenge…looking forward to your submissions.

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@dianna, not sure if it’s going to quote your text like I tried to do, but let’s see! 😂 I think that point you brought up is why many musicians / artists / writers / filmmakers, etc., etc., etc. are ardently against the idea of using AI for creating complete songs and various works of art. I think Evan brought up in the interview the fact that AI is incredibly useful for expediting certain aspects of artistic creation (such as quickly gathering / compiling / analyzing theoretical information about music creation, for example), but it is NOT a substitute for artistry. There is definitely that ethical issue, in my opinion, that AI indeed draws from databases of existing, including copyrighted, artistic material to create what it does. Are those artists credited? Nope. Maybe you could argue that the information is so “diluted” just by virtue of how vastly compiled / condensed it is, as a person does when they create (compiles their creative experience and draws inspiration). But I also feel that, even though it may not even be fully detectable, there is something profoundly “off” about the things AI creates. It is lacking soul and always will be. Even if it can, in the future, *exactly* recreate the human hesitations and attempt to emulate the emotions behind the music – it never fully will recreate our expression of music because AI has no consciousness and no soul. I mean, I guess we can direct this conversation to Isaac Asimov or another of our sci-fi friends for further commentary. 😂

ParticipantReally great to see the videos folks have shared so far! I also love the Skye Boat Song but I’m a little nervous about some of the chords so I worked on One Finger Etude, which is absolutely lovely to play. It’s not perfect here, but I’ve recorded so many videos because I didn’t like the faces I was making while concentrating on playing and this was the best take (LOL… where is the tutorial to work on less awkward faces in your videos while your concentrating and listening??).
It’s still early in the month so I will likely clean it up more, or I might my try hand with the Skye Boat Song too…

Beautiful song. A bit of a challenge for my arthritic fingers but I tried to do it justice.

Here’s my recording of Skye Boat Song, another great song and arrangement. I need a bit more practice with this one, but may not get another chance to record before the deadline.

ParticipantMorning all!
I’ve been trying to clean up the One Finger Etude so here is an update. I’m still struggling with the double pull-off, and consistent volume withe triplet strum. And a little with anchoring to keep a good hold of my uke as I move up and down the neck (lol). But I think this song is just so pretty.
Really nice to listen to the other submissions too. You all are inspiring me to keep at it.
Have a love weekend everyone.
