Hello All!! I have really enjoyed watching all the entries here, such talent out there!!! I am new to fingerpicking and new to Rockclass 101 but am learning lots, although feel a bit out of my depth!! I have also found videoing myself to be a challenge and that I’m very nervous, hopefully that will get better too!! Here I attempt the Travis Picking Etude, it is definitely not as fast as it should be and I’m thinking maybe my beat is off? Will keep practising!!

I’m thinking maybe my beat is off?

What you’re hearing is that you changed the rhythm of the pattern. You moved the quarter note hit from beat 1 to beat 4. If you reverse it, you’ll be locked in with the rhythm I wrote, although, your alteration works and your fingerpicking sounds great!

Thank you Andrew for your kind response, very much appreciated. I will work on getting the rhythm right, it sounds so much nicer the way you wrote it!

This is my entry into the April member challenge. I’ve only been playing for 3 weeks, but I do have some experience with guitar years ago.

Hey, how’s it going? Adding here my first recorded “performance”.
I’m 1 day in the premium membership, and started learning to play 1 year ago, without musical hearing, ability to read notes and even knowing how to hold the uke.

Hi, in this challenge I decided to try The Skye boat song. It has a beautiful melody, but it was quite a challenging for me. I tried it outside and found it to be a lot of fun 🙂

Here’s my April submission of Travis Picking Etude. I’ve struggle to play as smoothly as I would like, especially once I push the record button. But the extra “help” from my buddy Leo made this take extra fun. I’ve also been working on the lovely Skye boat Song but haven’t had enough time lately to fully commit.

Best wishes to all on winning this fabulous ukulele!

    Take care,
    Karen

Here’s my attempt at the Skye Boat song – with a difference. I have tried the electric uke with efects pedal – but this instrument is far less forgiving, and really highlights every little error. However, it has been real fun learning and practicing. I will definately keep working on this, and add it to my repertoire.

Hello again, I’m reposting my attempt of the Travis Picking Etude as in my previous post I had the rhythm wrong, I hope it sounds more like what Andrew intended this time 😀 Really enjoying everyone’s videos!!

Hi everyone! Fantastic entries so far!

Here’s mine. I’m hoping to record a better version before the deadline—I’m not quite where I want to be with this piece yet. There are still some irregularities, buzzes, and a bit of insecurity, mostly because I pushed the tempo faster than I’m fully comfortable with right now.

That said, Travis picking is a lot of fun! I even dug out a hat I bought in Texas back in 1999.

Travis Picking Etude this month. No where near the speed of the lesson, but this is the best I can hope for. I may have done this one awhile ago, but had to brush up on it.
