AndrewKeymaster@heike_uke – Beautifully played, Heike! I only have one suggestion. For the double stops, try strumming through just a touch faster so they don’t sound as arpeggiated.
@janaq1 – That was a lovely performance Jana, great feel throughout! And thank you so much for the kind words, we really appreciate it!
@jgillard – Well played, Jeremey! Feel and pace were excellent!December 15, 2024 at 11:53 pm #64857jasdel

Thank you, Andrew and crew, for creating such a supportive online space and culture. I love that you included The Ukulele Kids Club as part of the December experience. I was happy to donate $50. Wishing you all warmth and peace this holiday season!

O Come All Ye Faithful.
To learn to play this Christmas Carol was a real challenge for me and I will keep practicing every day. I want to get more fluid and secure in playing with my thumb, something I’ve never done before. For now it’ll have to be good enough as my contribution for the December challenge. Thank you everyone at Rock Class 101 and well done! and good luck to everyone who is participating in the challenge. Merry Christmas!December 16, 2024 at 7:22 pm #64871
AndrewKeymaster@jasdel – Very beautifully played, Jasdel! I only have one suggestion. For the double stops, try strumming through just a touch faster so they don’t sound as arpeggiated. And TY so much for the kind words and for the donation! It’s very much appreciated 🙂
@dianna – That was awesome Dianna! The only suggestion I have would be to play along with Steven in the tab player or with a metronome. Either option will help keep you steady and eliminate the little pauses I hear at times.I really appreciate the kind words and thank you so much for the donation!
@mickan88 – Beautifully played, Michaela! You already sound like a natural with the thumb technique, keep up the great work!December 17, 2024 at 12:41 am #64877
grannieannieParticipantAnother day or two and I’ll have a video ready to submit – another day or two is all we have left, isn’t it? There’s so much talent in this group and such a range of experience. This is a great community where everyone is so supportive and helpful. Special thanks to Andrew and crew for making all this happen. You make it look easy, which is a sure sign that you’re putting a great deal of time and effort into everything you do. I hope you all get a well-deserved rest for the holidays.
Just a few comments:
@The_Bumble_Bard – You are always having so much fun with your playing! Thanks for continuing to remind us of this.
@ukefinlandgirl – I love your beautiful instrument! And you are making some beautiful sounds with it.
@katazumiri – What graceful hand movements! It’s fun to watch that addition to your playing.
@leb397 – I never tire of hearing someone play the banjo uke – thanks for adding that little bonus. Strangely enough, my brother recently reminded me that our older sister once had a banjolele many years ago. So long ago that I can barely remember it, except that I was allowed to look but not touch. We don’t know what happened to it – it didn’t turn up when we cleared out her house, and my sister has been gone for four years now. One of life’s mysteries!December 17, 2024 at 8:46 pm #64880ldarrow

Running out of time this month. I have only had my baritone a couple of months. Played it in last months challenge and wanted to again. Honestly while practicing I thought it sounded good, but listening to my recording, it sounds a bit ‘off’ to me. Not sure if it is just a poor performance or if it is just the different key for the baritone. Anyway good luck to all on the upcoming drawing for the beautiful prize. Happy Holidays to everyone an I am looking forward to learning more with you all next year.

AndrewKeymaster@ldarrow – Beautifully played, Linda! To my ear, the 2nd string sounds a little off at times. This is usually caused by one of three reasons:
1) I noticed you’re sometimes pulling the string down slightly when fretting the double stops, which makes the note go sharp. Try to keep the string as parallel to the fretboard as possible.
2) Pressing too hard when fretting can also cause the note to go sharp. Aim to apply just enough pressure to make the note sustain and ring clearly.
3) It could be an intonation issue, though I’d guess the first reason is the most likely.

AndrewKeymaster@mysticrick – Wonderfully played, Rick! I hear a couple of minor rhythm snags, so I’d recommend practicing along with Steven in the tab player to smooth them out. Honestly, it doesn’t sound like it would take much practice as your performance already sounds fantastic!

Participant@andrew thanks so much for the hints. Yes, I do see how much I was pulling on the strings. That was something that I had worked hard on trying to fix. Have gotten much better, but I think when making a recording I get a bit tense and it comes back like a little beast. That would explain why it sounded normal during my regular practice. So many thanks for the time and effort you put into these arrangements, lessons and wonderfully helpful comments. The lessons here bring me such joy. Hoping the coming year is wonderful for you

Happy Holidays All. I loved this arrangement and started working on it weeks ago. It turned out to be so much more difficult for me than I expected. I can play it fairly well now but have so much difficulty getting a video without too many mistakes. I can play it smoother with better timing but those videos just haven’t worked out lol. Here’s Feliz Navidad.

Hi everyone, I chose to work on ‘O come, all ye faithful’ for this month’s challenge.
I still struggle a lot with rhythm and tempo, I’m having classes because I find it very difficult to work with a metronome by myself. I need someone to call my attention to it when I lose it.I would like to thank Andrew and Rock Class 101 team for all their work and efforts putting this together and for making it so pleasant and enjoyable for all of us. A huge thank you to all of you!
I’m humbled by the quality of many of the players that are part of this and participate in these challenges. Congratulations to you all. Good Luck for the raffle.
Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year.
