I could have used another week to iron out the kinks, but I’m heading out to Montreal tomorrow (hmmm, maybe our paths will cross, @shmu88) and will have neither time nor ukulele while I’m there, so this is what I can do for now. Once again a fair bit of background noise – the dogs always seem to wander in when I’m recording.

Hi, for the June challenge I chose the beautiful song Red is the Rose. For me it was the biggest challenge of all the songs I participated in. Especially the 3rd part. But on about the 400th attempt I managed to do it at least a little. I was quite relieved 😅

    Hey,
For this month’s challenge, I chose “Red is the Rose”. It’s a song I particularly love, but I find it really hard to learn by heart—especially the third melody, I get mixed up easily

    Hi folks!

Here where I am currently with La Vie En Rose. Definitely needs some more work, but this is the best I’ve got for many takes. And my little pinky pinky is flying all over the place… I need to work on that in addition to all the other stuff, LOL! I love this song so I’ll definitely keep working on it. 🙂

    Well then, dear friends!

Earlier this month, I mentioned that I liked the versions of “La Vie en Rose” by Grace Jones and Dalida. Grace’s version has a tempo of 88 BPM (disco), while Dalida’s is 46 BPM (easy listening).
As for the harmony, Dalida’s version stays closer to the original, whereas Grace’s would require some changes.
Neither Dalida nor Grace used an intro like the one Édith Piaf did.
So, I recorded Matt’s version to a metronome — since neither Dalida nor Grace used rubato — and used part of that recording for my subsequent experiments.

I invite you to join me for a stroll through the rose garden in our city park 🙂
