Wooow, amazing entries, everyone!
I loved them all, but especially the Halloween-ish ones 👻 It’s been so much fun watching everyone’s videos. I really love these theme challenges!
I’m guessing we’ll get to play Christmas songs in December, but what’s coming up in November???
A little story about my October challenge…
Looking through the options, I quickly and to my Halloween-worthy dismay realised that the only option for low G was Helen’s Theme (@Andrew correct me if I’m wrong lol) and it’s categorised as advanced! Since I see myself more in the seasoned beginner corner, I thought that was way too much of a stretch.
So, just to be on the safe side, I practised The Walking Dead on low G, even though I knew it was meant to be played on high G. At that point, I had no idea how to adapt it for low G.
Somehow, I got used to the lower tones and even started to like the vibe. But to you, it might sound a little strange.
Of course, I wouldn’t be challenging myself if I didn’t at least give Helen’s Theme a try. I wanted a proper low G tune, after all!
And man, what a challenge it has been!
Learning the tune wasn’t that hard, but playing it all the way through without making mistakes? Absolutely difficult. My fingers either refused to move where they should or didn’t hit the strings properly.
I didn’t even bother muting the strings when lifting my fingers. That would have made my brain completely collapse.lol
So, I tried to compensate for my lack of technique with a cool outfit and a spooky vibe in the video.
And here we go… with lots of unwanted sounds and some pretty scary buzzing notes. 👻

annyukeParticipantAnd here’s my low G take on The Walking Dead. Just for your entertainment…lol
(And I’m gratefully taking advice to improve my playing)
Thank for this wonderful community here. It’s been a highlight beside all the AI rubbish that out there online…October 29, 2026 at 5:41 am #84712turbopstros

Hey guys, here is my take on The Walking Dead. It should be beginner friendly song, but in the speed it was so far my hardest song played. At least it’s short 🙂

I’ve had a long break from playing the ukulele, and I have to admit that my fingertips are really suffering with this song. Still, it’s a fantastic piece – Spooky, Scary Skeletons.

I chose a challenging song this month because I love this song so much- BLUE MOON!
@Andrew , your intro for this song made me want to watch AWIL so I did, Scary! I guess I never watched the whole movie back on the day! So my “creepy” SLOW version fits the mood of the Moors!! I’ve been working on it all month except not much last week, when I was at Reno Ukulele Festival 😜 Lots of jamming many other songs! Its is really not done yet, but my hubby and I are in Morro Bay now so I wanted to post SOMETHING just in case! I will post another video Friday or Saturday if I can. Sorry for all the background noise. My strap also was squeaking sooo much, annoying!October 30, 2026 at 3:47 am #84720beauke
ParticipantHi everyone,
I AM A PREMIUM MEMBERI recently picked up my uke again after a 4 year hiatus. (Life got in the way!) I am so glad I did. I love playing this piece, and will continue to play and polish! (It still needs it for sure!) This is my best effort at this point. I am always astonished just how hard it is to get through a piece without making mistakes and squeaks despite hours of practice. Recording is such a good exercise.
Thanks for organising these fantastic fun challenges.

ParticipantHello my favorite peoplelele,
it’s incredible how you all play so good!
Here is my humble addition for October challenge.
I’m really looking forward for December challenge because I love Christmas and American Christmas songs especially.

Yikes! Don’t think I’ve ever tried to record an entry this many times and it went down hill after lunch break and total four hours. I’ve heard amazing entities, think my Blue Moon choice was very hard. Weird my struggle was the index finger pull off… just kept losing the pressure at the beginning which made it rushed. Far from what I’d like but time has run out. Love this song.
Fun month. Scary skeleton is so cool and Helen’s theme I like a lot. Thanks @andrew. Congrats this months newbie’s, nice job, hang in there. We were all where you are at least once, twice or more in my case 😆 LouisaOctober 30, 2026 at 5:11 pm #84723leslieb

I chose Walking Dead as my stretch piece. This recording on was the best of the bunch.
Still working on the transitions, but didn’t want to wait to the very last minute to post. Thanks for listening.

lhamiltonParticipantHi,
This month I worked on the Walking Dead Theme. I was away part of the month so appreciated a short song — but enjoyed it a lot.

This is my first challenge. All I can say is – Wow! I am blown away by the talent on this site! I have so much to learn from all of you and am very inspired by what I see in people’s entries.
As for my Blue Moon submission – it is far from a perfect take and I am still a little slow, but I hope I did it well enough to capture the intent. I certainly learned a lot from the process and will continue to work on the song and try to improve it.
I also realize besides my uke playing I also need to up my recording game! 🙂 This was the first time I have tried to record anything except for myself and my first time of hosting something on YouTube, so I hope I did that correctly.
Anyway, Thank you so much for the fun challenge. I am looking forward to November and another one!! 🙂
