AndrewKeymasterJust a heads up for folks using the site today: we’re in the process of removing the old Search & Filter software, and something went a little sideways. As a result, the new search pages aren’t displaying quite right, but they are fully functional. This will be fixed tomorrow, my apologies for the inconvenience.
Update: Our developer had a family emergence today. The visual issues will be fixed tomorrow afternoon before we release our new lesson, which is gonna be epic! 🙂

AndrewKeymasterFriendly Reminder – The deadline for receiving an entry into the giveaway is tonight at 11:59 PM ET (check your local time zone).
AndrewKeymaster@marianne – That is happening because some songs double dip within the same category. So in your example, when selecting:
Difficulty Level: Level 4
That populates 52 songs.
The category below (Ukulele Tuning) updates and shows:
High G (49)
Low G (4)
Baritone (0)That adds up to 53. So who is the odd man out? Or should I say, the double dipper, lol? It’s this song:

Funny enough, I wrote the description for that lesson which shows the double dipping: Four of the songs are listed in three levels, and for tuning, it’s listed in both high and low G.
So what happens when you select:
Does it show 53 or 52? It shows the correct amount of level 4 songs, which is 52.
The same logic applies for the next category. Arrangement type shows:
Solo (39)
Duet (7)
Trio (4)
Full Band (8)Which adds up to 58, but if we select:
Level 4 + the 4 tags above, we end up with the correct amount: 52.
TY for the kind words!
@leb397 – I think the easiest thing to do is to create a new collection called “Current Songs” and then move them back to the original collection when you don’t need instant access anymore. Creating collections is covered in the video below starting at 2:15.
@nat-uke – 🙂
AndrewKeymasterHi guys, today we replaced the old search & filtering functionality with the new one! There’s still a few minor things we need to address, but overall it’s working great! If you spot any bugs or issues, please let me know. 🙂

AndrewKeymaster@janaq1 – My pleasure and TY again!
@grannieannie – TY Annie! To be honest, I don’t think that’s something we’ll change. But the easiest way to do it is to right-click the link and select “Open link in new tab.” If you’re on a tablet or phone, press and hold the link until a pop-up menu appears, then choose “Open in new tab.”
AndrewKeymasterThe AND/OR logic is confusing. Think of it this way instead.
Method 1: If I want to find a specific result, it’s best to select one tag per category. For ex, if I’m a beginner and I want to work on strumming the blues, but I only have a High G, I’d select those 4 tags:
Difficulty: Beginner Series
Tuning: High G
Genre: Blues
Playing Style: StrummingThis results in 3 songs being shown.
Method 2: But if you want a broader result, like the method outlined above, that example yielded 26 songs being shown.
To narrow it down, you’d have to continue selecting additonal tag(s). For ex, if I add one more tag: “Summer” from the Seasonal Category, that narrows the results down to 3 songs.
AndrewKeymasterI actually had my filter logic set up the opposite of what Jana said, but now that she’s explained it, it makes so much more sense. I initially thought that folks would want to filter down within a category (e.g., to see only songs tagged as both “Level 1” and “Level 2”), but I see now that that is too restrictive and would return a slim result. I now understand that filtering down should happen by selecting options across different categories.
The two main logical operators are AND and OR.
With Jana’s method, the OR operator is used within a single category. So, if she selects “Level 1” and “Level 2” in the “Difficulty” filter, she will see all songs tagged as either “Level 1” or “Level 2.” The search is broadened to include all songs from both levels.
The same logic applies to the “Genre” category. If she selects “Jazz” and “Blues,” the search will return all songs tagged as either “Jazz” or “Blues.”
The AND operator is what makes the filtering happen. It applies between different categories. So, assuming she selected all four options (“Level 1,” “Level 2,” “Jazz,” and “Blues”), the final result would only show songs that meet both of her selections simultaneously.
This means the end result is:
(Level 1 OR Level 2) AND (Jazz OR Blues)
Which includes these four types of songs:
A Level 1 song that is also Jazz.
A Level 1 song that is also Blues.
A Level 2 song that is also Jazz.
A Level 2 song that is also Blues.

I’ve updated the filtering logic, give it a try now Jana. And TY for the feedback!
Rachael, I think the above explains it really well. This stuff is really confusing. I was confused too, I mean, I initially set it up backwards lol 😂
AndrewKeymasterThanks y’all!
We’ve made great progress this week on the styling changes. If anyone has any feedback based off the latest version, please let me know asap.

AndrewKeymaster@jbmills07 – Next month will be Rocktober and will feature the next 3 lessons we release 🙂

AndrewKeymasterThank you so kindly, Rachael! I think we are going to keep the lesson count. I think it looks pretty good, especially with a little bit of styling:

AndrewKeymasterGreat playing Abhay! 🙂

AndrewKeymaster@leb397 & @marianne – Thanks for the kind words! Y’all can check out a sneak peak of what’s new here.
P.S. Great playing Marianne!
AndrewKeymasterThanks for the kind words, y’all! Today, I was able to add more functionality, including the pop-up for mobile, and user selections now show at the top of the page. I was also able to improve the styling a bit. I’m pretty much at the point where I’ll be handing it off to our developer to finish the rest of the styling.
@otzepeng – I’d love to add this! But, unfortunately it is not possible with our current website. It is something I’ll look into for the next version of our site.
@dirk55 – I think that would be a cool feature to add and it is possible to do. I’m just not sure how relevant it would be for songs. For ex, if a casual user searches for “Greensleeves,” I’m not if it would add much value to list the date it was published. The date, to me, makes more sense to include for numbered lessons, like the monthly live lessons which show as EP001 (EP meaning: Episode), EP002, etc. -
