    Here is my first ever original song ☺️. It’s called, “On the mend”.
    A friend’s sudden health scare inspired it.

    @bibilele, that was a very lovely tune indeed! I feel like your sense of timing is perfect and I love the melancholy sound of it. 😊 @marianne, just so you know, @gi_gi_ and I were freaking out that you posted before us and couldn’t even listen to it before posting ours. 😉😉😂😂😂😅😅 Well, I actually did listen to it, and holy crud that was amazing. That goes without saying, so majestic. You are “ukulele goals” personified. 😅😉 @gi_gi_ I absolutely love how that turned out, so gorgeous, my friend!! Agreed with others who said this challenge is so exciting and fun especially since for so many people who shared so far, this is their first original tune. And those who picked Andrew’s original tunes also have done a lovely job. I really wanted to record mine tonight but had unexpected car issues today. I didn’t cry though so that’s pretty impressive with all that’s happened this month. 😂 Thank you for all who shared and to @Andrew for creating this challenge! 😊

    This is my original submission for the July challenge. The posts so far are amazing–I would love to learn how to play some of the originals!

    The strumming style of the first 8 bars is borrowed from Jake Shimabukuro’s Ichigo Ichie. I had the pleasure of seeing him live last month and that song was really moving. If you have a chance, watch his live in studio version of that one.

    I’m not sure this one meets all the criteria but hopefully Andrew will let me know so I can improve any future originals. Cheers!

    @shmu88 – LOL, I loved it Sam! You got a knack for writing, I hope you write more 🙂

    @lucauka
    – Brilliant job on “Aloha Dreaming” Luca! Fingerpicking sounds great! And well done on getting those tough chords to ring clear. My only suggestion would be to play it at a slower tempo, which allows the notes and chords to sustain longer, highlighting the melody and harmony and giving it a better feel for this tune.

    And nice job on your original tune too! I can tell you’ve got a good ear for hearing which chords and notes go together well. As you continue learning songs, study the form. For ex, how many bars are in each verse/chorus. And how they have a unique, yet relatable feel to each other.

    @bibilele
    – A very lovely fingerstyle composition Bianca, well done! Enjoy your Holiday!

    @marianne
    – Breathtaking composition, Marianne! Absolutely blew me away, will def be sharing it in tomorrow’s newsletter. ❤️

    @gi_gi_
    – Such a beautiful composition Gigi. Music is healing, I hope you get a chance to perform it for your friend. Sending my best wishes y’all’s way. ❤️

    @anikali
    – Lovely fingerstyle piece, Joan! I really like the change in feel from the opening strum technique to the fingerpicking section. My best advice for you is to keep writing, you’ve def got talent for it! 🙂

    @annemarie
    – I loved it, Anne! For me, it evokes memories of hiking in the mountains and just being in nature. 🙂

    @lhamilton
    – So beautifully played, Linda. Well done!

    I’ve been really encouraged listening to everyone’s fabulous creations! They were all awesome in different ways! For myself, I knew July would be a bit of a short month for me, so I saved the songwriting bit for another future challenge (but I’m getting a head start to think about this – so many aspects you can think about creating a song!). This month I learned “Travis Picking – ML023”. What a happy and relaxing vibe this tune was! I was pleased to finally understand the difference between straight and swing rhythm and how it is depicted in a lead sheet. (I’ve noticed that notation before, but had no idea what it meant – LOL). I played this on a Low G and this month also learned how to re-string my baritone uke and enjoyed travis picking chord progressions on the baritone as well.

    P.S. I played this at around 140bpm tempo. I am able to play it a little faster, but honestly, it feels right to me at the slightly slower speed (rather than 170bpm). Higher than 155 just seemed a little ‘anxious’ – if you know what I mean? As was mentioned in the tutorial, this is a nice feeling warm-up before practicing.
