Well, this is it, I’m swallowing my pride and I’m putting this here.
This is my FIRST original song…I call it “My Last Song”
My inspiration was my lack of inspiration… 😛It’s also the FIRST time ever that I try to sing…and that I try to strum and sing for that matter… and in my second langage on top of that…so please be indulgent!! haha. I chose the key of A major, so you got some Amaj, Bmin, C#min, Dmaj, Emaj, F#min and some 7th chords I tried to put in at maybe random places…
I even tried to write a solo, not sure it works.Congrats to all my fellow uke players for their awesome and professional performances, I’m truly impressed and therefore a little shy to share my video here.
I also realized too late that my phone was vertical instead of horizontal so the video is badly framed…grrr
Anyways…enjoy “My Last Song” 😉

It was a fun challenge to write something – I think that it drove home the value of learning more songs, and playing around on the ukulele more to get a better idea of what sounds good and what doesn’t – I kept feeling constrained by not having wide exposure to different chords/progressions yet.
I also played the Aloha Dreaming song, and although there were definitely points where I think things could have gone smoother (especially on one of the hardest chords of the song where it sounds like I had a muted string) I had a lot of fun and was excited to tackle something a little more difficult! I plan to keep practicing it 🙂

@shmu88, that was so amazing! So cute, that was literally like something from a movie! Really clever, too, I’m glad you didn’t use Chat GPT for the lyrics. 😅 And the solo was perfect. Your song is definitely way cuter than mine. 😂
I may be able to share mine tomorrow possibly, but otherwise next week. There are definitely things about it I could make a lot better, but I’m happy with it for what it is. 😂

@shmu88 That was amazing, I loved it! Inspired me not to take things so seriously, and embrace the struggle! Everyone is just killing this challenge, you all make it seem so easy and it’s soooo not easy! I have my chord progression, but keep changing my mind about the melody and rhythm. Grrr!

I thought this challenge would be much harder than learning someone else’s song but it wasn’t. That came as quite a surprise to me. Hope we get more challenges like it. Thanks @Andrew
@gi_gi_ haha whoops I have a big time problem picking up on sarcasm. I’m glad you were just being facetious. 😂 I’m kind of nervous to share mine now so perhaps I was projecting that reaction. 😂😅 But it’s okay, what makes these kind of challenges so special is that everyone creates differently and brings their own unique take to their ukulele playing. For me one of my biggest weaknesses I think is creating interesting or in depth harmonies when I try to write a song because I’m the struggle bus with understanding chords and things like that. Agreed with @dianna and others these challenges are so much fun and so appreciated! 😊💕

I thought it would be no effort to memorize your own songs, but I have just the same struggles than with songs from other people. There are still hesitations and buzzings strings in my performance, but next week we will start into holidays, so I went for the concept of good enough. 😉 Enjoy!PS: @shmu88, I love your not last song! Brilliant, and very complex for the first. Mine is quite simple.
