@leslieb – Your pull-offs sound great Leslie! I’d recommend removing the embellishments (grace notes). For ex, in the first measure:
That would make the opening line much easier to play for the left hand, but also rhythmically. Other than that, I would loop 2 bars at a time and focus on sustain and keeping it steady (tempo wise).
@ldarrow – Linda, your performance was absolutely beautiful! You’re so close, just a little more practice and you’ll have it smoothed out perfectly 🙂
@karenj – Right hand technique and feel were great Karen! Just keep practicing and you’ll have it flowing perfectly! Truly impressive progress, that’s a tough technique to tackle in one month and you’ve got it sounding good! 👏
@gi_gi_ – Tempo and sustain were excellent Gi Gi! And your P/O & H/O technique was on-point! Very well done this month. From here, I’d work towards gradually increasing speed. Keep up the great work!March 31, 2024 at 12:25 pm #61069The_Bumble_BardParticipant@ldarrow, that was so beautiful! You played that with such feeling. Really lovely. The anxiety of recording can be so hard to overcome but you did very well with it. And it’s frustrating if you do know you CAN do better, but it’s like a different part of your brain takes over and you forget everything you learned. 😅😂 At least that’s what happens with me unfortunately. Anyway, really beautifully played!
@gi_gi_, that was so dang magical! All those takes but you finally nailed it! 😂 I pretty much never get any of these recordings in under ten takes. 😅😂 Anyway very lovely playing! I want to learn all these songs now, they’re all so great. Also, side note, you always look so nice all the time. It takes everything I have sometimes to not look like bedraggled beyond all reason. I love your style, too! 😊Thank you, @Andrew, for creating these challenges and for all your great feedback always! It’s always so helpful, encouraging, and informative to read. 😊
March 31, 2024 at 12:40 pm #61070gi_gi_Participant@The_Bumble_Bard 10 takes?! 😂🫣🤣🫣 I would be over the moon if it took 10 takes. I kid you not, it was an exorbitant amount. I can’t count them all that’s why I said 1 million and 11 😂😂
I feel so disengenious to post that one take without sharing all the whoas it took to get that one or two takes. I tried about 50 more times after that take and just settled with that one Mamma mia🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️. I wasn’t going to submit anything this month. I decided I didn’t have the time, hadn’t practiced except the first part earlier in the month, yada yada. When I realized that noone had submitted the Irish Washerwoman on Friday (I called it the Irish Waterwoman in my title by mistake 🙂 I made myself finish learning it. That’s prob why it took so many takes. I didnt have much time practicing it. I’m happy with it and will continue to up the speed. When you see how fast Andrew plays it it’s mindblowing 🤯🤯🤯 That’s why he’s the Keymaster here ☺️.
Thanks for your compliments. You’re the sweetest 🥰March 31, 2024 at 12:45 pm #61071gi_gi_ParticipantMarch 31, 2024 at 12:50 pm #61072The_Bumble_BardParticipant@gi_gi_ hahaha!!! Well, that doesn’t happen super often when it takes that few for me, but a lot of it for me relates to the anxiety of recording and how long I can sort of deal with that in one sitting. That’s part of why my recordings are very rarely perfect (apart from the fact that I often don’t practice enough because of my hyperactive tendencies and trouble focusing). 😅😂 I love how specific that number of takes is. 😅😂😅 But you see it’s the million and eleventh take that is the most satisfying once you’ve gotten it. 😉😂 I’m cracking up about the intensity of your reaction but also completely understand. That song does seem so hard but I still want to try it. Yes, Andrew is a genius, plain and simple. That’s how I view all the teachers here but he’s brilliant in multiple ways. Yes, I guess that’s why he’s in charge. 😅😂
I have to go back to making mashed potatoes and cookies simultaneously for the gathering later. I’m the potato lady in my family (and the cookie lady). 😂🥔🥔🍪🍪 Happy Easter to all who celebrate! 😊💕

March 31, 2024 at 12:59 pm #61074anyon1ParticipantHi! I’ve been enjoying everyone’s entries! I worked on The Irish Washerwoman. It’s at about half speed which is an improvement from the 30% I was at when I started the month. @gi_gi_ is right; when seen it played at full speed, it is astounding!
When I pick up the pace, I’m even less consistent, and I often slide the A string off of the fretboard when I play pull offs. I’m not sure if it’s something about my technique in general or if that is something that will improve as I keep practicing to pick up speed.
Thanks for the challenge! Please omit me from the drawing this month.
March 31, 2024 at 1:16 pm #61075March 31, 2024 at 3:34 pm #61086AndrewKeymaster@anyon1 – Awesome job Adriana! I’m not seeing any slipping with the pull-offs, technique looks good to me. This was a really good take! Nice job on keeping the tempo solid! From here, I’d recommend the same advice I left above for @leslieb about omitting the grace notes. Also, double check bar 7, sounds like you’re adding an extra note in the mix.
March 31, 2024 at 3:35 pm #61087AndrewKeymasterFriendly Reminder – The deadline for receiving feedback and an entry into the giveaway is tonight at 11:59 PM ET (check your local time zone).
March 31, 2024 at 3:55 pm #61089leb397ParticipantKnocking this challenge out of the park. I think is was one of the more difficult and to see how well everyone did within a month! @gi_gi_ I’m sure I got you beat with the number of recordings. Three days I tried 😆. You did amazing. The washer woman entries we impressive. Super hard I think.
I love seeing what ukulele you play and how it sounds. I’m looking to upgrade one of these days so I’m always watching.
Happy Easter my Uke friends. 🎼❤️March 31, 2024 at 4:11 pm #61091rafaelaMemberAfter having taken a little break, I am more than happy to be back – and I really loved this month’s theme! 😊 I chose “Smash The Windows” because I really wanted to try and learn the Triplet Strum. I did struggle a lot with it, the coordination was quite difficult and, as you will be able to hear in the recording, I often hit the wrong string or more than one string which was very frustrating 🤪 But I will keep working on it, and one day I’ll hopefully get the hang of it!
I couldn’t resist and record “Red Is The Rose” as well, the song has such a beautiful, sweet and soft melody, and I especially love the “crescendo”-part where the melody gets more lively 😍 I’ll add that one in a separate post.
Thanks for listening! And Happy Easter to everyone who celebrates it 🐣

March 31, 2024 at 4:37 pm #61093nelsonlin2021ParticipantHappy Easter everyone.
I can relate to the countless NG takes. I had so many NGs my left wrist is now hurting and need to take break so as not to risk getting RSI. Something new for me this month is I recorded my performance sitting down. (I have always played/recorded standing up). It felt a bit weird at first but I soon enjoyed the extra lap support.
@gi_gi you played beautifully. You should see my outtakes lol
@leb397 my condolences to your loss. Very nice tribute to your mum. I chose the same song this month.
@The_Bumble_Bard enjoyed your performance this month. You have so much creativity and what a beautiful love story.I’m just glad there are 31 days this month compared to February. Even with the extra days, I still felt short on time. Initially I wanted to challenge myself to learn the triple picking technique but bailed half way as it was taking more effort and didn’t want to risk not finishing this month. I will have to learn this another time.
Below is my rendition of Red is the Rose.
March 31, 2024 at 5:21 pm #61094jody_hendricksonParticipantHi everyone,
Here is my recording of Andrew’s lovely arrangement of Red is the Rose. I really struggled to memorize and play through without many hiccups and will keep working on it. Playing on a baritone with low D and didn’t make any adjustments, so the low note kinda stands out a bit too much at times…
Happy Spring!
