brettboyParticipantHi UKE Friends!
Thank you for this awesome challenge! Moon is such a pretty song and it was a serious challenge for me! I spent many hours practicing and watching Evan’s performance and Andrew’s tutorial while struggling to get the cool patterns under my fingers, but I persevered and now I’m ready to share!
I do not currently own a Low G ukulele so I tried learning it on my baritone uke. It was too hard for me to learn in the open position (as taught by RC101 for GCEA tuning) and I did not like the way it sounded with my capo at the 5th fret. Rogue’s are CHEAP-O which means shoddy intonation and buzzing, especially with the capo. In the end, I decided to play it in the correct key without a capo which turned into a serious workout for my left hand. You might notice that I made one little “cut and paste” to cover a part I originally missed and my playing is “quite rough” at times. I have almost all the notes right but I did things a bit weird to avoid some near impossible stretches 🙂
It took me MANY failed attempts to get this recording but I’m actually Super Happy with how it turned out and think it represent my DIY style. I hope you enjoy it and look forward to all comments or critiques 🙂

kanae926ParticipantSo cool, Brett! You know, what I always enjoy so much about your videos is the entertainment value. It doesn’t matter that you didn’t play it perfectly because you have so much style and creativity in your playing (and video editing) that it never falls short of “fun to watch.” I especially like the layover you added for the singing part by replacing it with a guitar instrumental accompaniment. You definitely know how to work what you have!
I’ve quickly become a fan! 🙂

rickeymikeMemberBrett That was a Super Moon. Hey, I noticed that you bend those strings when you are fretting. This happens to me too but I’m wondering if this is OK or something to correct. So we need to ask Andrew about vertical pressure vs. horizontal pressure. Loved the performance description at the end. It reminded me of “HAL”.

ParticipantHi Andrew, Thanks for the great feedback. Here is another attempt. I’m not quite there yet. Following the play along at 80%… This song is much more difficult that I anticipated. Great challenge. Rick

Never close to perfect. It always sounds so much better in my head. But at least I got the harmonic! I’m getting it more often now, so that’s progress.

rickeymikeMemberGood job Lisa and perfect harmonic. Is it my computer or does your sound not sync with your hands?
November 17, 2018 at 2:50 pm #20107
lisadmhParticipantYeah it’s always out of sync, I don’t know why.
November 17, 2018 at 5:05 pm #20110
rickeymikeMemberBut it never used to be out of sync. Find out what changed for it to go out of sync.

annefgodfreyMemberHappy Thanksgiving to Rock Class friends. Sharing a fun video & wondering if any of you are having as much difficulty as I in efforts to memorize “Moon”. Such a beautiful piece. Congrats to all of you who have submitted November assignment. Great job!
Thank you for recent prayers & thoughts for my husband. He had recent surgery for repair of his dialysis fistula & is recovering nicely.
Blessings to each of you. A “shoutout” to friend, Ken, on eBay. My husband gave me an early Christmas & 75th birthday gift…a gorgeous Kanile’a soprano! Surely hope we did not bid against any of you in this transaction. Again, blessings to all!

robinboydParticipantHi Anne. Glad to hear your husband is recovering and I hope you enjoy your new uke!

robinboydParticipantHere is theme 6. Now I just have to piece them all together and add the singing.

P.S. I had to re-record the last video. Sorry, couldn’t edit my previous post. Rick

sprintingyoginiParticipantHere’s my entry.
I am a premium member.
Today is my sixth month ukulele-playing anniversary and I’m celebrating by posting La Gitanita.
In more exciting news, I added a low g to my original cheapy uke. I even had to drill a bigger hole into the bridge to make it fit. Since it’s a cheap ukulele, I was willing to do it myself and take a risk. It worked! I won’t be able to play Moon for this round as I’m a beginner and I anticipate it will take awhile, but it’s so pretty, I’m gonna work on it.
Thanks again!

lisadmhParticipantGood jobs folks.
Anne, more healing to your husband. I’m glad he’s doing well. He’s clearly doing well enough to think clearly on Christmas gifts, wow! Nice.
Sprint, it’s called a ukiversary, lol. Awesome job at only 6 months.
