I loved A Duet from the Heart the moment I heard it, and it was fun to play with a backing track. I couldn’t stop smiling when I finally made it to 100% speed, although I still only get the triplets right about 1 out of 10 times 🙂 Thanks to Andrew for the beautiful song, and to Steven for the great lesson…super fun!
September 29, 2024 at 10:11 pm #63895The_Bumble_BardParticipantOh my, so, I managed to get an entry together of Kakariko Village. I learned the harmony, melody, recorded both parts, layered and edited them (unsuccessfully I guess, lol) and uploaded it in an hour flat. And boy does it sound like it. 😅😅😂
When I first listened to the “finished product” back, I cry laughed pretty hard, just because it was so hilariously off. What happened?! I actually even tried to count. I had to record each part separately without listening to the other part. 😂😭😅
I think what happened is that I was playing the melody too slowly. And in my attempts to be “extra” I added notes to the harmony which threw off the rhythm. And also didn’t realize that the last chord of the song was played by itself. I knew this after I listened to @kittycatlin ‘s lovely performance of this one. 😊 @swissconsinboy also played that one really well.
I feel like mine is a “expectations versus reality” prime example. 😅
I’ll say I’m glad that I still tried to get an entry in so I didn’t lose my streak (and because it was a much needed laugh today), but this one maybe doesn’t deserve a prize entry. 😅🥺
@abster, your performance was incredible! Such a young rock star indeed! 😊😎I want to comment on everyone else’s because they were all so great, but I’ll say they were all very lovely! 😊
@leb397, that is so amazing and magical! I am definitely very excited for you! 😁💕 I feel like I need to go look into that company so I can ogle the ukes at least. 😅 Thank you, friend, there have been some fun and crazy things this month, but the last couple of weeks have been a bit rough. It will get better though. You be well, as well! 😊- This reply was modified 1 week, 6 days ago by The_Bumble_Bard.

Thanks for being there! 🙂
September 30, 2024 at 4:49 pm #63903akukes73ParticipantJust made it! Only had time this evening for 2 recording attempt (this being the 2nd take) so could be better especially those triplets (Duet of the Heart). Wanted to try a challenge with a backing track to practice timing, hopefully not too bad.
Please don’t include me in the giveaway for this month.
September 30, 2024 at 6:56 pm #63904leb397Participant@the_bumble_bard I think you are not giving yourself the credit. I thought it was good! Sounded pretty to me ☺️👏👏👏👏 the fact you recorded all is nice. Such a soft moving tune. Well done.
Good luck everyone. Here comes October 🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁
September 30, 2024 at 7:42 pm #63905The_Bumble_BardParticipant@leb397, aw, thank you, friend! 😊 When I listened back to it again today, I realized it wasn’t *quite* as bad as I thought. I may have been getting tired and therefore slaphappy when I listened back to it. 😅😂 Really thank you! I actually love trying to layer like that but I think I need to get a better program / method for creating duets/layers because the program I have now is Clunky City. 😂
September 30, 2024 at 11:19 pm #63906grannieannieParticipant@The_Bumble_Bard: I agree, you deserve all kinds of credit for putting it all together in just an hour and making it sound quite presentable! Nicely done.

October 1, 2024 at 7:17 pm #63913diannaParticipantThese months go by way too fast!…..A little late, but I’m still posting! Here goes Wildwood Flower…….I kept on having little brain farts, forgetting where I was…….I love anything clawhammer….great challenge….thanks Christopher!
Great job to all the other clawhammer enthusiasts…..special shout-out to @leb397……I’m so impressed with your submission…..and can’t believe you just learned how to clawhammer this month!
Well-done to all the others who submitted……it takes a lot of commitment to practice and performing each month.
On to October!
October 1, 2024 at 7:29 pm #63914leb397Participant@dianna Thank you!. Great job. Sounded really nice. I love clawhammer and really struggled. You made it look easy.
I understand everything you said. Sure wasn’t an easy piece. I started a good 10 days earlier, when Andrew mentioned it would be a challenge song and every day worked on it. However, I was gone 1 week. So towards the end I got nervous I wouldn’t finish. Memorizing- argh…. hard to find repeats to tie it together.
Anyway., glad you posted. I kept looking for others, besides misterbones.October 1, 2024 at 7:32 pm #63915AndrewKeymaster@grannieannie – Very beautifully played, Annie! I noticed some of the melody notes that should tie from the “&” of 4 into beat 1 of the next measure were moved to beat 1 instead. Try counting and clapping the melody out loud. The syncopation makes this melody a bit trickier, but you’re really close!
@lhamilton – Nicely done, Linda! The banjolele sounds awesome! To my ear, it sounds like the thumb hits on the open G are being rushed a bit. Try playing along at a slower tempo and keeping an eye on that. Also, focus on note clarity – aim to have each note ring out clearly and independently while still flowing into the next.
@jasdel – You nailed it! Perfect feel and timing, excellent performance! 👏
@The_Bumble_Bard – I like your adaption of the piece! Nice mix of melody and harmony Rachael 🙂
@mysticrick – Great playing, Rick! I noticed you’re coming in on the same starting point for a few melody notes in the A Melody that I mentioned in my feedback for @grannieannie above. It also sounds like you’re coming in early on the B melody. Try counting during the longer pauses to help you start on the right beat. Additionally, focus on defining that triplet rhythm in the opening phrase.
@hiouke – Beautifully played! ❤️
@santai – Great to see you back Marvin! Playing was wonderful, only thing I’d work on from here is increasing the tempo 🙂
@akukes73 – Great playing Ash! To my ear, I’m hearing a slight mix of swing and straight feels during the syncopated parts of the A melody (bars 5- 7). Try playing along with Steven in the tab player for that section and try to match his playing 100%. In bar 14/16/18, try not to rush that first note pull-off.October 1, 2024 at 7:37 pm #63918lhamiltonParticipantThanks, Andrew! I’ll work on that. It’s a lovely little uke.
Linda
