Note: You MUST perform to the backing track. The backing track requires premium membership to download.
3) A Duet from the Heart – Learn a charming duet for ukulele and acoustic guitar.
Note: You MUST perform to the backing track. The backing track requires premium membership to download.

* Note: In my opinion, it is better to show progress versus perfection with these challenges. So if you are a beginner and can only play the first couple of measures. That is completely ok. If you play two more measures of the next challenge piece than you did the previous one, you are on track to getting better. This is what these challenges are about… you learning ukulele and getting better. Remember we are all here to support you no matter what your current playing level is.

(Please exclude me from the prize drawing this month. Thanks)
September 1, 2024 at 5:41 pm #63578diannaParticipantBravo @misterbones ! I think that is the fastest I’ve ever seen a first post😂…..Well-done! Your claw-hammer is impeccable….I even like the slight tapping sound you get as your thumb plucks and hits the banjo-uke head….a drumming effect.
I also went back and listened to your January clawhammer submission…(wow!)…and I liked the raspy voice….it suited the style.
Where did u get the tabs for your January submission…..(meant to ask in January😜)
September 1, 2024 at 5:51 pm #63586AndrewKeymaster@misterbones – Aced it and sounds awesome on that banjolele! I’ll send it to Chris. I’m sure he’ll be impressed with how well you played it 🙂
September 1, 2024 at 6:06 pm #63587leb397ParticipantWow @misterbones, as @dianna said, fastest entry out of the gate! Nice. Love the claw hammer and hope to try it out.
September 1, 2024 at 6:09 pm #63588misterbonesParticipant@dianna Thanks a lot! I got the clawhammer tabs from Aaron Keim at quietamericanmusic.com He’s got two clawhammer ukulele books out, an instruction book and a song collection book, which I can both highly recommend. He also has a few free tabs on his website, and performance videos of all the arrangements on his youtube channel. When I fell in love with the clawhammer technique (thanks to the awesome clawhamer course taught by Chris here on RC101) and was looking for more stuff specifically for clawhammer uke, this was by far the best and most comprehensive source I found.
Of course I had to learn the new clawhammer song right away when it came out, and when the information was leaked that this will be part of the September challenge, I recorded it and challenged myself to post it right away as soon as the challenge opens, just for fun. Otherwise I would have loved to learn and play the bass part as well, which I will most likely still do.September 1, 2024 at 6:49 pm #63590The_Bumble_BardParticipant@misterbones, that was really amazing! You’re such a clean player and utilize the clawhammer technique so perfectly. 😊 It’s always so fun to hear a banjolele. 😅🪕
I’m hoping to learn that one, too, hopefully I can do okay with it and the backing track. 😅
September 1, 2024 at 6:55 pm #63592otzepengParticipantHeyho Rockclass,
i’m not as incredibly fast as @misterbones 🥳
(congrats, very well played and i really love the clawhammersound on your banjolele).
I did not participate two months but had much fun with “Hawaii 5 o” at my Holidays.
A few days ago i heared “Duet from the Heart” which catched me instantly. Then it filled my weekend and i recorded myself the first time with a backingtrack today. Thanks Andrew …. you got me completely 🤭.Good luck and much fun this months for all of you!
September 1, 2024 at 8:05 pm #63594jbmills07ParticipantI am a premium member
And here I am thinking I might be able to be the first to post! How naive I was! lol
I went with Kakariko Village for start of the month! This is my first attempt at doing two videos combined into one 🙂September 2, 2024 at 8:05 am #63610diannaParticipant@misterbones….thanks for the info, I’ll check it out🙂
I’m blown away by these early submissions!
@otzepeng….that was gorgeous….I could feel the emotion….😁
@jbmills07 …..so cool!….what program did u use?September 2, 2024 at 8:41 am #63611deadbuggyParticipantI love this tune! Thanks, as always, Andrew and Steven, for the great lesson.
September 2, 2024 at 9:49 am #63613johanna2509ParticipantHello everyone!
So many great early entries!
As a big Zelda fan, learning the Kakariko Village theme was a no brainer! But I wanted it to be a solo chord melody, so I combined both parts. That was a lot of fun! It was actually quite easy because the base of chords and melody notes were already there. This time I recorded audio and video seperately again.
Oh, and I played it a bit slower than Matt’s version because of some tricky chord transitions.(Exclude me from the price drawing this month)
September 2, 2024 at 10:38 am #63614jbmills07Participant@dianna thank you! I used OBS studio for recording the videos, and then used davinchi resolve for the editing. I did a google search for how to have two videos side by side and it’s fairly simple 🙂
September 2, 2024 at 9:55 pm #63620The_Bumble_BardParticipant@otzepeng and @deadbuggy, really beautiful takes on that one! You both brought out the spirit of that song so beautifully (or at least what I perceive to be the spirit of that song, lol). Really lovely! 😊
@jbmills07, really glad to hear you share again! 🙂 Such a beautiful take on that, really well put together. The ending is great. That moment of satisfaction when you nailed a take! 😂 I know that feeling very rarely, lol. Really well played! 😊
@johanna2509, very, very beautiful! The chord melody edition you made is so perfect! When I first saw that video, I had the exact same thought, that those parts were destined to be combined, but you did it really perfectly! 😊❤️Oh, I was going to say, for “A Duet From the Heart,” when I first heard it, I thought it had high clawhammer potential, and I still do think that, but I guess it would be silly to try to turn that into a clawhammer version when there’s already a clawhammer song this month. That’d be so silly to do that………… Who would do that? 😉 😂
September 3, 2024 at 9:00 am #63636jbmills07Participant@The_Bumble_Bard thank you so much!! 🙂 it’s certainly good to be back posting 🙂
