AndrewKeymasterOk, so the giveaway is def happening as I just bought this Luna Pineapple Uke on Amazon! I’ll make an official announcement soon.
Another idea: as I’m working on finishing up our new fingerpicking course (to be released in March), we could “theme” the site member challenge to be on: fingerpicking. So you have to pick one from the following 3:
1) Our First Song
2) Aura Lee
3) Fingerpicking Etude no. 4-

AndrewKeymasterHaha! Welcome ST. Glad you found us 🙂
AndrewKeymasterFixed! Very good job Phil, thanks for sharing! It’s always an honor to hear people learning these tunes 🙂 Btw, I’d love to share this video on our facebook page, is that okay?
On another note: We are going to run a site challenge soon, same idea as you presented here, but we might add a little giveaway! I was thinking of doing the site challenge on this lesson: Our First Song. What do you think?
AndrewKeymasterHi Bri, check out these 2 lessons that explain both concepts:
1) Add a backbeat to your rhythm playing
2) How to fingerpickAlso, check out our Beginner’s Course, as it contains many more lessons on these concepts and more!
AndrewKeymasterWelcome Bri! Glad to have you on board 🙂
AndrewKeymasterHey Phil, if you’re having issues on a smartphone or tablet device, you may want to disable the video portion and only play the audio with the tab. You can do this by clicking on the gear icon and choosing the “audio only” version instead. This will allow you to select a playback speed anywhere from 25% to 100%.
AndrewKeymasterLol! 😀
AndrewKeymasterYes, I do. Although, you may not like how I learned to do it, lol! I used to practice in the dark, that way I couldn’t cheat. It really just comes down to: the more you do it, the easier it gets.
For me, I found motivation to master not looking by knowing that one day when I gigged, I could look at and connect with the audience instead of staring at the fretboard.
AndrewKeymasterHi Diane,
I hope the lesson went well! Teaching is so rewarding 🙂 Def, keep me posted.
Cheers,
Andrew
AndrewKeymasterHi Vida, I remember we emailed each other about this issue. Honestly, it’s hard to say. Can you share a video of your playing (clear view of both hands). That’s probably going to be the only way I can help figure out if it’s a playing correction that is needed or if the ukulele needs attention (setup).
AndrewKeymasterHi Diane,
I’ve taught a few 5 and 6 year olds and the best advice I can give you is to teach simplified material. Single note melodies and chords will be best. Try to get your grandson to use more than one finger for playing too. Don’t forget to explain proper form (probably every lesson) and do correct his hand(s) if needed.
So, let’s list some examples:
Single note melody for “Jingle Bells”, just the first part: “jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way”
Using the thumb to strum chords, again single note chords: C or C7. Have him strum quarter notes and count for him.
Give these a shot and let me know how it goes! If you need more ideas in the future, don’t hesitate to ask 🙂
Cheers,
Drew
AndrewKeymasterHi Danny,
I would say the standard high G string set should be fine for that ukulele. I recommend Aquila strings. You can check them out on Amazon HERE.
AndrewKeymasterHey Leena, happy new year! Check out this lesson for exercises to help you on hammer-ons and pull-offs.
AndrewKeymasterI will add those to my list! I def want to do a couple more video game tunes this year 🙂
AndrewKeymasterGood question. I generally have a preference to strum instead of pluck. But, it really comes down to what’s most comfortable for you and/or what you think fits the song better.
Def, let me know how it goes for you!
