AndrewKeymasterMatt has a version on the UU YouTube channel, but I’m not sure if it’s the same as what he played in this video.

AndrewKeymasterHi Julie, I usually release it the day after the broadcast for folks who couldn’t tune in live. I’m working on it right now actually, so it’ll be out shortly 🙂
You can find it by clicking free lessons in the main menu and then click “Live Lessons Library” in the blue banner at the top of that page.
P.S. You may want to check out the second video on this page. It provides a full rundown on how to navigate the site.

AndrewKeymaster@lyndallk – That was awesome, Lyndall! Nice tight playing with Stephen! The only thing I want to mention is in measure 3. The second time you hit 1 on string 2, you’re holding that note too long. It should be a quick 16th. Also, it sounds like that’s pushing the last 3 notes back by an 8th. If you can shorten that 1 on 2, the remainder will fit into place. Try looping bar 3/4 in the tab player to correct this timing issue.
@marianne – Beautifully played, Marianne! This is a tough tune to play with the phrasing and rubato feel. So I get where you’re coming from with the comment on feel. I think your phrasing of the verses are excellent. The chorus is the section I would focus on in your practice as there’s a couple sections that sounded a little rushed or slow. Since you’re playing it on baritone, you can actually play along with the record as is. Try slowing down the song on YouTube and following along with the track and her vocals. That’ll be a fun way to practice flow and feel 🙂
AndrewKeymasterWelcome @jasdel! Thank you so much for the kind words! Happy to have you here with us and I look forward to watching your performance in our June challenge 🙂

AndrewKeymaster@maryjanew – I think moving that note to the E string should work well for most of this arr. Measure 30 looks like it would be a bit more work for the left hand with that change. And for the last chord of the song, I’d play X543.

AndrewKeymasterHere is everyone on page 9.
@ukealori – Welcome back, Lori! It’s tough taking a break because we often feel a little rusty, but honestly, I thought you did a great job! Both piano riffs sound spot on, especially the final one, which is a toughy! Big props for getting the notes to ring out nicely there.I’d focus most of your practice on the verse and the bridge. Try playing along with the tab player, slowed down, in synthetic mode. That’s a great way to practice keeping the tempo steady through all the transitions.
@nat-uke – Bravo, Natalie! Well done on the timing and tempo. There are only two sections I’d target in your practice. The first is the bridge, as that’s the only section where I heard the tempo deviate. Try to bring that up to par with the other sections. Also, practice the transition going into the A minor chord in the verse. See if you can clean that chord hit up. Overall, very well done!
@sakifelrosa – Wow, Isaac! That is very impressive for one day! There are a few bars where I hear the rhythm deviate a little from the melody. Try singing the words or melody along while playing to help lock the timing in a little more.
@ruthie-roo – Beautifully played! I like your adaptations, and the ending was a nice touch 🙂
@kelsey91 – Nicely played, Kelsey! I think you’ve got a great base established. Try working on one section at a time with a focus on timing and tempo.
@maryjanew – I thought you played it beautifully, MJ! For singing, I think there are two approaches you could take. One is to sing over it as is, but that means you’d be playing the chord melody while also doubling the melody with your voice, which seems a bit redundant, in my opinion. Therefore, I’d probably re-write the uke part to focus on the harmony only, while your voice provides the melody. But you could have a little bit of fun with it by singing one verse, then switching to chord melody for the next. That way, you still get to play this arrangement as well 🙂P.S. Well done on the last chord section, very impressive! Those chord shapes intimidate me lol, and you breezed through them with crystal clarity!
@karela – Great fingerpicking and an awesome first post, Karen! The one thing I’d suggest working on is timing and tempo. Try using the tab player in synthetic mode and slowing it down to a comfortable pace. Turn the metronome on and loop one section at a time. Try to lock in perfectly with the playback, and when you feel comfortable, start to increase the tempo. Work on one section at a time.
@dianna – That was awesome, Dianna! Great idea to source a jam track. You were locked in, grooving with the band the entire time. This is BIG progress. I don’t have the words to describe how great this was. Amazing job!
@cimarronsailor – Lovely performance, great playing throughout!@mmorishige – That was not bad at all. I thought you did a great job on each section of the song. The only thing I noticed worth mentioning was the E string sounded a little off. Friendly reminder to tune before recording 😉
@sarahd – That was very well played! Great job on the timing, pacing, and feel. And of course, for making it just in the nick of time lol 🙂June 1, 2024 at 5:49 pm in reply to: Participate in the May 2024 Challenge: Double Kanile’a Giveaway ($5,800) #61822
AndrewKeymasterHere’s everyone on page 8.
@jayton – Excellent fingerpicking! The only suggestion I have, as you continue to practice, is to play along with a metronome to help keep the tempo steady throughout all the sections.
@richard_siegert – Well done Richard! The main thing I’d suggest is working to bring the second (verse) and third sections (bridge) up to speed of the first section (piano riff). That way the tempo remains constant throughout. For the last section, I’d recommend keeping the double barre intact throughout (11 11 10 10), that’ll make transitions between the fingerpicked chords seamless 🙂
@jebergeron – Well done JP! I’d offer the same advice I left above for Jayton. BTW, incredible job on the ending section! Each note rang crystal clear! Very impressive!
@rgillof – Excellent performance Richard! I’d focus most of your practice on the Bridge to bring it up to the same speed as the other sections. The chords in the last section are tough to fret! Are you playing this on a concert? If you have a tenor, that would make it easier to do as the frets would be larger.
@synchronal – Well done Karen! The one thing I would work on is the Bridge. I’m hearing a bit of deviation from how it’s suppose to be played. So you may want to revisit the lesson video for that section. And TY so much for the kind words!
@potter – Beautiful performance Jen! The barres sounded great to me 🙂
@riley_ukulele – Another beautiful performance, Riley! I really enjoy listening to your performances and the harmonics at the end where a nice touch!
@jody_hendrickson – Very nicely played Jody! Great feel and pacing throughout. I think you’re at the fine tuning stage for sure, although A LOT of it already sounds super polished. It was a pleasure to listen to 🙂
@mysticrick – That was amazing Rick! You’ve got all the parts sounding great and nicely locked into the groove. My only suggestion is to memorize everything so you can focus 100% on your playing. And then of course, gradually work to boost it up to 100% speed. But all your hard work has paid off, it was epic! 👏June 1, 2024 at 4:58 pm in reply to: Participate in the May 2024 Challenge: Double Kanile’a Giveaway ($5,800) #61821
AndrewKeymasterHere’s everyone on page 7.
@jcneedles – I thought you did a great job JC! One way to get over the ‘recording nerves’ is to record your practice sessions. That’ll get you accustomed to being recorded, but also serves as a great way to review how you did. With this tune, your playing sounds great! I’d work on one 8 bar section at a time and focus on keeping the tempo steady. Then do the same for the next 8 bars, then piece it together, so 1-16. Continue with the same approach for the rest of the tune.
@brettboy – Pacing and feel was superb. Always a pleasure to listen to your performances, Brett! I’ll share it with Steven, I’m sure he’d love to watch it too 🙂
@amilylaw – Beautifully played! I like how you used rubato, but be careful not to extend notes beyond their recognized value. For example, in bar 5, the open notes sounded like quarter notes instead of eighths. I’m hearing similar things in a few spots in the A melody. The B melody’s rhythm was solid and easy to distinguish.
@grannieannie – Very well played Annie! Check out this post that I made earlier this month for Gi Gi. It offers a video tip with a barre chord exercise you can include in your warmup routine.
@jlbross – I thought you did an awesome job, Jennifer! All I think that’s needed is a little more practice to smooth things out. So my suggestion is to target one section each day in your practice.
@frederic – That was a fantastic performance, Frederic! Great feel and phrasing in your playing. One thing I noticed is that you repeated the B section instead of going back to the A melody to end the tune. Another suggestion I have is to work on gradually increasing the tempo of the overall performance. Not by much, just a little bit 🙂May 31, 2024 at 4:25 pm in reply to: Participate in the June 2024 Challenge: Double Kanile’a Giveaway ($5,800) #61796
AndrewKeymasterThat’s awesome to hear Johanna! I’m looking forward to hearing it 🙂
I’d say “La Bamba” would be the easiest because it doesn’t need any adaptation to be played on low G.

AndrewKeymasterFriendly Reminder – The deadline for receiving feedback and an entry into the giveaway is tonight at 11:59 PM ET (check your local time zone).
AndrewKeymasterJust saw your update. Glad to hear it’s working now 🙂
AndrewKeymasterHi Shelle, unfortunately I’m not able to recreate these issues using mac/safari. I’d be happy to contact Soundslice support to see if they have any suggestions. In the meantime, perhaps you can try using the player with a different browser? If it works fine there, it could help us pinpoint the issue. For example, it could be a browser add-on that is interfering with playback.
AndrewKeymasterWelcome Shelle! Thank you so much for the kind words, I really appreciate it! Happy to have you here with us 🙂
