ripleyParticipantHere’s my entry 🙂 I am a premium member
I was hoping to have another attempt at this but I’ve had a virus for the last several days so there isn’t much ukulele playing happening till I’m better.
Things I’m happy with: It’s recognisable, my barre chords aren’t too bad and it’s a lot better than my attempts back in early July (turns out it really is worth recording yourself to monitor progress!).
Things I’d like to improve: Transitions – I’d like to smooth these out a lot; memorising – there are a couple of noticeable pauses where I’m thinking ‘Gah! What’s next?!’; reach – I need to stretch out my little hands more to make sure I don’t miss my mark on bigger chords.
Something I know wasn’t quite right but I’m not too worried about – speed/timing. I know it was slower than the tutorial video but I just played it like that because I liked the sound of it, not because I couldn’t keep up with the video timing 🙂 I’ll focus more on that next time.-

ripleyParticipantAh! Thanks for explaining Robin 🙂
ripleyParticipantHi Becky,
That’s really good advice, thank you! The pressure of trying to do well for the camera, even though I can repeat as many times as I like, definitely doesn’t help to bring out my best performance!
When I started out and I’d learned to sing and and strum fairly reliably I tried to record myself playing the theme from The Detectorists by Johnny Flynn (a very simplified version!). I must have made about twenty attempts before giving up. Of course, the more it goes wrong, the greater the frustration which doesn’t improve the result! The festival was really good fun. Playing was very low pressure as there was a group of us taking part so any dodgy chords got lost in the overall sound 🙂
I’m hoping that my son will continue with the uke once he’s mastered JP. He does prefer instrumental music. Maybe I can get him working on the Stranger Things piece next as we’re all watching S3 at the moment. My daughter also picks the uke up occasionally as she loves singing although her priority is getting one that she can custom-paint lol!
I have a question about the challenge submissions – I notice that in some posts members have added the phrase “I am a premium member”. Is there a reason/need to do that?
ripleyParticipantThanks Andrew 🙂
I have recorded a JP submission, I’m just deciding whether I should make another attempt to iron out the (many!) wrinkles before posting 😀
