@marion2017 arrghh i know, its super frustrating, i get the brain freezes a lot too. Like sometimes my mind goes blank and i suddenly don’t remember what came next when i record. Hopefully when we all do it more and get used to recording it will become more relaxed 🙂

    @stianukulele
Thank you so much ! I totally agree with you on that. I think its a very good lesson for me at this moment to let go of my perfectionist mindset and embrace the imperfect.

    @lisadmh
yes hahaha we sure do ! Good to know i am not the only one out here that struggles with these issues 🙂

Here’s another entry for the april challenge, just for fun, cause why not ?!? I notice that i get really nervous when i hit the button to record a song. It’s like i say to myself : and now the whole song has to be perfect in one go. but of course that never happens and you only pscyhe yourself up and end up making mistakes you normally never make when you’re offline. Does any one of you relate to that or is it just me being a crazy perfectionist ? These challenges are a great lesson for me to accept the imperfect and just upload it anyway 🙂

@richo_uke Aaaw thank you so much ! Yes it took me a day to learn and record it, i guess i am a fast learner in that regards 🙂 Everyone has their own pace and that’s totally fine. The most important thing is that it brings you joy and fulfillment. It sure does that to me,it brings me immense joy to learn and play new things:) i am convinced you will play a beautiful rendition of dream a little dream ! Are you still able to upload your version before the deadline ?

@becky7777 and @lakeside339 Sorry for my late reply,i’ve been a little MIA lately 🙂 Thank you for your suggestions ! Sadly the only music store we had in town went broke so i guess i have to seek out if there is a luthier somewhere here in the south….My next uke purchase will most definately be one with a custom setup done by the seller, seeing i am going to treat myself on my one year ukelele anniversary with either a koaloha or blackbird tenor (haven’t decided yet) and they both deserve the best setup they can get 🙂

@andrew unfortunately no 🙁 There is one music shop in my town ( i live in maastricht in the netherlands) and they don’t even sell ukelele’s or even strings. It’s actually quite difficult to buy or get information about ukes in Holland cause its a very unpopular instrument in my country. I will look online to see if there is a luthier somewhere in my vicinty that can do a set up but i doubt it….

@andrew Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback !

I think its really awesome that you take your time to do these response video’s for us and give us pointers how to improve our playing, really really appreciate it 🙂

I will take your tips on board, be more mindful on how i end songs and apply the retardando in the future 🙂

I have started to learn stand by me today but boy its super challenging for me…. I have been playing for just a couple of months and have never seriously played a lot of songs with so much pull offs/ hammer ons and slides,it’s kicking my butt Lol
Do the strings and set up of your uke influence the sound and feel of these techniques ? cause i noticed that the pull offs and hammer ons seem so much easier, and sound more pronounced, when played on my crappy concert uke which has aquila new nylguts on them and has a fairly low action and quite a loose string tension. Whereas my Pono tenor has fluorocarbon strings ( living water low g) a much higher action and the string tension is also higher. Any thoughts/tips/ideas on how i can make it work on my tenor without spraining my fingers ?

Thank you so much ! It does sound jazzy doesn’t it ? I didn’t realize i was playing a jazzed up rendition of this song until you pointed it out 🙂

This is my first challenge to participate in here at rockclass 101 and i had a blast today learning dream a little dream, its such a pretty song !

My uke has a low G set up, so i had to modify a few things here and there so that it would not sound too weird 🙂 I also changed things up a bit, added some extra notes and fingerpicking in parts where i had to strum, hope thats ok.

I am suffering of hayfever today and had compromised airways so don’t mind the heavy breathing thoughout the recording, i sound like a congested french bulldog hahaha !

Its not a perfect recording, at one point i spaced out and in some parts had the sticky finger syndrome LOL but i’ll take it 🙂

@richo_uke I hear ya ! Moon has a pretty challenging rhythm. What i did is learn the song piece by piece and looped it constantly until i got that section down.THat way it doesn’t seem like this unsurmountable hill you have to climb 🙂 I drove my hubby to insanity repeating those sections all day long hahaha !!

You are very welcome ! I am all about sharing, cause sharing is caring 🙂 and i think its pretty cool that you guys like the song enough to want to learn and play it yourselves !

Did you already figure out the mishap in the first part ? Do you have a low G string set up on your uke ? Cause i can imagine if you would play it with a high G it would sound pretty off.

@miztaken is that a moonbird ?!? OH my gosh i am in love with the sound and look of that uke ! It truly is a stunner, you are one lucky lady 🙂 Hope it arrives safe and happy in OZ soon !

My dream uke is the blackbird farallon sunburst, the sound of it is so sweet and its weatherproof so i can take it with me wherever and jam to my hearts content….ugh… one day…..

In the meantime i’ll drool over these clips 🙂

@miztaken Thank you so much for the huge compliment. I am really so happy this tune resonates with you 🙂

My head is really overflowing with melodies lately so there are plenty of songs that are waiting to be written 🙂 As a matter of fact i have created a new tune today inspired by the magic of spring, I will try to upload it one of these days 🙂

@richo_uke yup it has been only four months of playing the uke but it feels a lot longer hahaha 🙂
I must admit i have been a tad obsessed over these past months to learn as much as possible and have been pushing myself out of my comfort zone constantly. In the first month of playing i decided i wanted to tackle “moon” by Taimane cause i love that song so much. But of course its insane to want to play it when you just barely learned all the standard chords LOL ! But i went for it and eventually nailed it after a lot of hard practice 🙂 I feel that is the way to really learn very fast, just set the bar ridiculously high for yourself and choose songs that are way above your skill level and have lots of fun learning it !

Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback 🙂

I would be honored to share the song with you ! It has some unusual chords but i’ll try to explain them and hopefully it comes across

The song is played with a low g string and the picking pattern is a standard 4231 the whole song through 🙂

The first two chords are variations of the C chord. The first one is a standard C with the addition of the 4th string on the second fret. I’ll call it Cadd2 for the convenience

The second chord is a C with the addition of the 4th string on the first fret.I believe that chord is called Caug

So these are the chords to the first part

    Cadd2 Caug G7 C7 F A7

    Second part

Cadd2 Cadd2 plus the addition of the first string 5th fret
Caug Caug plus the addition of the first string 5th fret
G Dm Am G Dm Am

    third part

    Fmaj7 G chord on the seventh fret ( i believe its a C then )
    Am AmM7
Fmaj7 G chord on the seventh fret
    Am AmM7 Am7

    fourth part

Cadd2 Cadd2 plus the addition of the first string 5th fret
Caug Caug plus the addition of the first string 5th fret
    G7 C7 F A7

    Cadd2 G Dm Am Cadd2 G Dm Am

I hope this helps ! Let me know how you get along with it and i would love to hear your own interpretation of this tune 🙂
