Andrew,
I was so excited to give this a try and just realized…. IS THIS TECHNIQUE EVEN POSSIBLE WITH HOW I PLAY THE UKE UPSIDE DOWN?! Oye!June 28, 2019 at 11:20 pm #28544cornishdptParticipantMfaske:
Thnx! I thought about it a lot when I decided to start playing since I’m a lefty and was forced to learn drums righty when I was younger. I had a lot of teachers tell me to just learn righty…. But they obviously didn’t get it. I read online that a lot of nicer ukes have different size holes so I wouldn’t be able to restring the uke backwards if I ever wanted to buy a really nice one. After learning that Paul McCartney plays his guitar upside down, I decided it was worth a go.
Plus, now anytime someone has a uke somewhere, I can just pick it up and play theirs. Btw, great job on your playing as well!June 28, 2019 at 2:47 pm #28531cornishdptParticipantI am a Premium Member.
Not sure why but I feel like I had a harder time with this one versus last month. I think I just need to buckle down and practice finger picking more.
June 23, 2019 at 11:49 pm #28418cornishdptParticipantI am impressed ans motivated listening to everybody’s submissions. Just started putting the whole thing together and that first ending in melody A is so much harder playing upside down! I know it’s going to sound like an injured bird, but think I’ll have a submission ready this week.
May 30, 2019 at 10:11 pm #27751cornishdptParticipantI have to give serious props to anyone who sang this month. Trust me that no one wanted to hear me try that one.
Rickeymike, I went through 3 days of takes to get a solid version of 64 and I thought I had it down too. I almost posted one where I tried to strangle the neck of my uke because I literally screwed up the last line of the song.
Best of luck to everyone out there working on it tonight and tomorrow!
May 29, 2019 at 4:14 pm #27681cornishdptParticipantRickeymike: Lol, yeah that was my wedding ring making that noise. I’ll have to thank the wife for adding a new dimension to my playing. As for the memorizing, ive been a drummer for decades and am used to letting my muscle memory kick in… I just have to be careful that I will sometimes learn a phrase or strumming pattern wrong and then have to fix it at the end of the month. Best of luck!

May 29, 2019 at 10:12 am #27663cornishdptParticipantHaha! I made it. I always seem to run behind schedule and learn about 3/4 of a song by the end of the month but this is probably my favorite Beatles tune and said I was going to get it no matter what. Sry you haven’t seen me in a while, Andrew. I swear that I’ve been practicing. Thanks as always for the videos and challenges!
August 29, 2018 at 12:22 am #18275cornishdptParticipantPlaying on”Hilda” who is a Kala pacific walnut uke that I bought a couple weeks ago. She is a tenor uke, so I know my pinky reaches are ugly, but have only played on a concert uke before. No excuses, so I may re record.
July 31, 2018 at 1:08 am #17882cornishdptParticipantI’m trying to slow down my playing a little so I can clean these up a bit. Hopefully, that came through this month.
July 8, 2018 at 1:53 am #17650cornishdptParticipantThank you for the offer Andrew, but I’m good here. Got some gifts cards for my birthday the other week to upgrade my uke anyways and buy some new cymbals for the drums. For now, just working on Yankee Doodle…
July 8, 2018 at 12:55 am #17648cornishdptParticipantHey Andrew,
I just was looking through the list for June’s winner and I noticed that my name was placed on the same line as another uke player, so the list on the screen looked like “cornishdptkayleighb” instead of:cornishdpt
kayleighbI don’t know if that the typing on the list affected the outcome or not, and I want to be clear that I am NOT asking for you to pick another name so I want to say a formal congrats to “Kaizendon” and enjoy the new Uke! I just wanted to bring it to your attention so that it is not an issue (if it even was this time around) in the future. Also… I’m sorry if I just opened up a can of worms…
June 30, 2018 at 1:33 pm #17561cornishdptParticipantI was beaten by Bhrams lullaby last month (actually still working on it), but I refused to miss 2 challenges in a row! Got away from the other 14 family members while in a vacation house to record this in the 96 degree heat. Great tune, and really forced me to work my way up and down the neck more than usual.
April 30, 2018 at 10:44 pm #16821cornishdptParticipantSo I tried to challenge myself, but that riff before the g chord was just too much and couldn’t get it up to tempo. Grrr… Sry for the quality, but its finally 70 degrees in Chicago and just couldn’t stayinside today.
