I’m really amazed how good the ukulele can sound using only one fretting finger at a time (at least when Matt is playing it :). I really like the tune and appreciate the opportunity to work on things like rubato and dynamics with an easier-to-fret song. If only I could get rid of the extraneous sounds.

    Happy spring everyone,

    Hi all,

I did Danse Paysanne because I wanted to take a first shot at learning some of the expressive subtleties. I appreciate that the song takes it easy on the left hand so that I have at least some chance of paying attention to what the right hand is doing.

    Happy Spring!

I am a premium member…and a huge Stranger Things fan! So there was no question which song I was going to learn, but it still needs a lot of work. Happy Halloween!

    Hi everyone,

I chose Summertime Blues. It’s really cool to watch my fingers move at what for me is definitely a challengingly fast pace and level of intricacy, and to actually have them doing the right things more often than not! I do need to figure out how to play it at the target speed without my fingers constantly knocking against the top of the uke though – right now it seems like it’s either that or miss the strings completely πŸ˜„. Happy Fall!

Whoops – thanks Andrew! When I listen to it now, it almost sounds like I start out kind of near 1 β€Ž 2& 3& 4&, but slowly and steadily morph to 1& 2 β€Žβ€Žβ€Ž 3& 4&. I knew something was off, but thought it was ‘just’ (i) my slower pace and (ii) some unwanted string noise/fumbling. I really like this tune, and so plan to keep at it – thanks again for the awesome feedback!

    Happy September,

    Hi all,

So, I may have bitten off more than I could chew this month. I liked the tune of Etude 5 much more than the beginner level song, so I tried my first intermediate piece. I also feel that I was misled by Andrew’s effortless playing and only realized how fast the tempo is after it was too late. πŸ˜‰ With the planets aligned and the wind at my back, I feel like I can just eek out a take at about 90% speed. Anyway, fast is fun!

    Best,

Thanks @Andrew – I hadn’t seen that arpeggio technique. Pretty cool, and nice song too – I’ll get to work! πŸ™‚

    Hi everyone,

I have to admit to having been tempted to skip this month’s challenge because there are so many songs on the site that I want to learn to play. But I also really wanted to learn the nifty chord-melody strum/pluck trick Andrew teaches in the instructional video (Aura Lee), and I’m glad I stuck with it!

    Best,

    Trace
