    Thanks, Andrew! I misinterpreted the 3x at the end of the piece to mean repeat three times after playing the bar through the first time. Anyway, really enjoyed this mini lesson. I like what syncopation does to my mind!

    @lbilkie – Beautifully played! Keep in mind, the first bar gets repeated twice 😉

    Hey everyone,
    here is my entry in june, one finger etude. I like the sound of this piece, its so relaxing. I tried to memorize the piece to concentrate on my playing, like Andrew recommended in the may challenge.

    I have spent most of this month learning Gymnopedie no 1 (just uploaded it to the Showcase forum) but just managed to fit in this mini-lesson which turned out to be fun. Despite thinking this was going to straightforward (well compared to Gymnopedie it was easier) it was a bit trickier than I thought – I think that due to the quick transition from strumming to picking I sacrificed the final up strum of bar 10 (probably other mistakes!).

    One finger etude submission. These classes and challenges are so good. It’s nice to have something that really keeps me working towards a goal. I haven’t had as much opportunity to play the last couple of months, but this helps me focus that time so thank you!

    I did it again, I spent all month trying to learn the more challenging Rhythmic Blues but it’s not great so here is my monthly submission of
    One Finger Etude: mini Lesson 009

    Okay, What the heck, I know I only get one entry but since I worked so hard on this thing, I’m submitting it anyway. Help!
    I know this practice is great for my brain and fingers so I’ll just keep working on it until it sounds like music. 🙂

    Oh I am so glad to hear that Andrew. Am I using too much motion in my right arm?

    @concan – Beautifully played with great feel! And awesome job on getting it memorized. That helps so much as it allows you to focus 100% on your playing . Well done this month! 🙂

    @akukes73
    – Fantastic playing! Excellent timing too!

    @mlarson
    – Great playing! It was a lovely performance 🙂

    I’d recommend working on your left hand form. I’m seeing incorrect form throughout the piece. For example, in the first 10 seconds of the video, your palm is supporting the underside of the neck. That’s something we don’t want to do as it limits finger dexterity. Form 2 is best to use throughout this tune. Form 2 uses your index to help support the neck. The video lesson at the bottom of the page demos/explains this technique.

    Another area to work on is to keep your fingers curved at the first joint. For example, 13 seconds into the video you play a C chord and if you look at your ring finger, you’ll see it’s straight. We always want to fret notes with the fingertip while being curved at the first joint.

    Check out this lesson for help with playing the triplet strum.

    @joe150
    – Fantastic take, Joe! Well done this month! My only suggestion is to memorize it 🙂

    @lynnzo
    – Well done on the 1 finger etude! Playing sounds great! I’d continue working towards boosting tempo (gradually).

    Watch out for tugging the strings too. If you pause your video at 43 seconds, you can see that you’re pulling the C string down a bit. That makes the note go sharp. Try to keep the string as parallel as possible.

    Awesome to see you tackle the blues tune too! Pushing ourselves out of our comfort zone is one of the best ways to grow!

    @riffyk
    – No for fingerpicking. And I don’t think so either for strumming. I would only recommend to loosed up, try to relax your right hand more as you strum.

    Hello Andrew. Thank you, Evan and Matt for another great lesson. My version is the Slow Blues (for now) and I went renegade on the last chord. Thank you again for such a fun learning site. Happy Summer!
