I choose the Feel Good Rhythm Riff this month. It is fun to play and does make me feel good. I struggle with the chuck though. The piece loses its charm when I add it. The video instruction is excellent as always, I just have not been able to convince my hands to follow the instructions.
Thank you for this fun tune!
Life is good!

Hi everyone!
Here’s my submission. I absolutely love listening to syncopated rhythms but playing them is harder than it seems 🙂June 17, 2023 at 1:16 pm #57787

I am really enjoying this month’s mini-lessons, they really are a lot of fun. But it was very difficult for me to decide which one to pick haha! 😁 In the end, I went for both “Syncopated Funk Strumming” and “Feel Good Strumming Riff”.
Thanks for listening! Rafaela 🙂

I joined the One Finger Etude club this month. I had lofty ambitions of doing two of these minis, because for me it’s borderline impossible to spread out my brain and finger power that much. 😅 Well, I almost did two, but I can’t talk about that yet. 😂😅
@dianna, replying to your previous posts: I’m pretty sure we’re the same person. 😂😅 Just with our anxieties and struggles. You did such an amazing job doing three of those minis, so crazy! And all of them were so lovely too. Really impressive. For me those tips / approaches I talked about before have been helping me a lot to push through the anxiety of recording. It’s still there, but they help to push through it. And I’m glad that @Andrew agrees, it’s so true: Once you know a song really, really well, to the point that you don’t have to think about it, that’s the loveliest part because then you can start to impart more feeling into your playing and feel less anxiety if you struggle with that. That’s my experience and what I love most about playing uke, is when you get to that point of familiarity with a song.Here’s my One Finger Etude. The strumming part is highly questionable. 😂
For some reason, it reminds me of this song, starting around 38 seconds:
Thank you for reading and listening! Everyone has done an amazing job with these lovely minis. 😊

The_Bumble_BardParticipantHere is my second entry, a variation on Feel Good Strummin’ (the fingerstyle edition):
My wrist didn’t like the chord changes right now, so it might take a while to build up to the original’s exact chords and to the strumming, but I hope to get there. I love this tune! Thank you, @Andrew! 😊

I tried the Syncopated Funk Strumming mini lesson for this month. I love syncopated rhythms! I feel like it still gets away from me at times, but it was fun to work on this with my electric ukulele.

AndrewKeymaster@leslieb – I think it sounds just as good sans the chunks. Great strumming Leslie! One tip, try to minimize your hand movement as you switch between the first two chords. Try this: keep the ring anchored and slide down a half step as such:
You can see only the index and middle move, in a flip-flop fashion.
@rebeca – You’ve got the muted strum technique down, but it sounds like you added a little swing feel and changed the pattern. I dig it tho! Sounds really good 🙂
@jedart – Beautifully played, Jed!
@rafaela – Bravo on both tunes! Excellent playing all around!
@ukandrea – Love it! I’m gonna share your performance in our newsletter this Friday 🙂
@shmu88 – Excellent playing as always, Sam! Great feel and energy in this performance. The only thing I can critique is sometimes I see some of the strings are getting pulled down when fretting/playing notes which causes the note(s) to go a bit sharp. Try to keep the strings as parallel as possible.Most of this is prob due to the size of the uke. Try playing this tune on a tenor or baritone. That prob would fix most of what I’m seeing/hearing.
@otzepeng – Beautifully played! Glad to hear you are able to play again 🙂
@katazumiri – Another awesome interpretation, Lena! Love it!
@The_Bumble_Bard – 1 finger etude sounds great! Check out Matt’s lesson on the triplet strum. He teaches a few ways to do it. Give them all a try and pick the one you like best 🙂I love your fingerstyle take on the strumming tune. Great adaptation!
@laurakarr12 – Excellent playing, Laura!
@anyon1 – Woah! You got some crazy speed, well done Adriana!June 20, 2023 at 8:09 pm #57825
