    Hi all-

    Here is my Ghostbusters theme attempt, about 80% speed. Among the aspects I want to keep working on are the balance between the strums and the chunks, volume/intensity-wise. That was an ongoing challenge. And getting to tempo.

    This is my 24th consecutive monthly challenge entry. Thank you Andrew, and all the teachers and students at RockClass101 for making this such a welcoming, engaging, and generally awesome place to learn ukulele. The quality and depth of the resources here is amazing.

    Here is Yellow Submarine for June. I think my biggest struggle is getting a consistent tone as I play. I find it just about impossible to memorize songs, therefore I need to look at the music. When I do look, my finger placement suffers, I lose my place, I buzz, and my tone takes a dive. Any suggestions, other than keep practicing? I love playing, but when I hear my musicianship on video, I kinda cringe…. Sorry to all who watch my videos. I SHALL NOT GIVE UP! 🙂

    @ukealori. I think your Yellow Submarine is great! You manage the barre chirds and that “chunk” sound like a pro. (I’m envious!) As for memorizing, have you tried singing (just for yourself!)? Recently my teacher (of another instrument) suggested I sing melodies in “solfege”–the “do re mi” syllables. To my huge surprise this has made a big difference for me. (For example, Yellow Submarine starts “mi fa soooooo mi re mi do…”. I’m sure you can master this too.

    A busy June for me. I was able to give the Billie Eilish tune a go. Lots of terrific submissions. So nice to be a part of this community for musicians developing their craft.

    One thing I looked at with all the “What Wads I Made For” submissions is the various left hand thumb positions… interesting.

    Thank You RC101 and everyone who performed for the June Challenge

    Here are folks on page 9 that I hadn’t gotten to.

    @nat-uke
    – Focus is a really cool feature that the team at SoundSlice introduced recently. They are always improving the player and adding new features. This was a great addition!

    Your performance was fantastic, Natalie! Really well played! 👏

    @marthad
    – You mentioned: “I need to keep my left hand fingers close to the fretboard at all times”

    Great catch spotting that! This is why I’m a big fan of filming practice sessions. It helps us catch things we wouldn’t notice otherwise.

    I thought you did a great job overall and I will def give you entries for the giveaway. For the G chord that is barred, try to keep your index finger straight so that the knuckle does not stick out. Check out this lesson and this one for help with barring.

    This is a good exercise that you can run to practice barring:

    This will give you something fun to play while also helping to build finger strength. You can switch up the exercise by using different barre chord shapes. The exercise simply involves moving a shape up and down by half or whole steps. 🙂

    P.S. Don’t forget to add the premium member tag for Kanile’a giveaway 😉

    So many good songs to choose from this month and I very nearly switched to something else yesterday as I’m seriously struggling with Mad World. But it was highly stressful last month waiting for my video to upload excruciatingly slowly to Youtube as the seconds to cutoff time ticked down so I’m trying not to leave it until the very last minute this month – it’s close, but not quite sooooo close! 😀 So here’s me stumbling my way through Mad World:

    After several technical issues, & much anxiety here’s my “Mad Word”. I’d played it so many times and was relatively happy with this one until I got to the very end and completely forgot what the last chord was, sorry! 🙈 It’s 3.30AM here in Scotland though & I’m nearly out of time so I’m submitting it as my least bad attempt. 😂 It’s the trickiest one I’ve tried to learn off tabs with a deadline like this & although it’s far from perfect I’m glad I challenged myself. Thank you.

    Thanks Andrew (& co) for all the great lessons & the feedback. So many great lessons to choose from this month. And as always thank you to everyone who shares their music here, it’s always so inspiring to watch other folk’s entries.

    Cheers,
    Ruthie

    Missed my last two challenges and really happy to get back to the challenge again.

    Here’s my performance on Mika’s arrangement of Mad World. Still a bit more practice needed. I can’t believe the entire song is based on 2 variations of just Fm and B flat chords to create this beautiful melody.
