The_Bumble_BardParticipant@grannieannie, so true! If anything, certain standards of perfectionism have amplified with new generations, such as standards for beauty. Partly because of technology creating the illusion of perfection with the photoshops, plural, and filters and things. 😉😂 And social media, where people only share the parts of their lives that make their lives appear to be perfect (which is totally okay on one level; it can definitely swing in the other direction, too, like people creating drama online, lol). I just think those are some modern elements that may affect the way we view things. Of course, technology has brought us amazing things, too, such as the ability to be connected to people we never would have otherwise and share music, like here, and in the ukulele community, which I’m so happy to have been connected to. But still seeing what everyone else is doing can make you feel like you’re not good enough sometimes, but you’re right that the whole point of creating music is to enjoy yourself, have fun, and improve, only judging yourself by the metric of your own personal progress (that’s the goal anyway). 😂 Just some thoughts about that, thank you for sharing your experience! Ha, I follow some of pop culture but I don’t see many new movies. 😂😅💕

So many lovely performances of this piece have been posted already, I’m almost reluctant to put mine out there – but I really do want a chance at the Kanile’a Baritone! It was a very interesting challenge to play legato and let the notes ring as long as possible. Even at a slow tempo that requires nimble fingers so as not to lift them and dampen the sound early. And working on the harmonics was good exercise as well. Congratulations to everyone.June 25, 2024 at 3:19 pm #62100
lhamiltonParticipantHi,
This month I tried the Ghostbusters Theme. Definitely fun to play.

I only saw the Oppenheimer half of Barbenheimer double feature. I do think that “what was I Made For” is quite beautiful and would love to learn it one day. Everyone has done such a beautiful job with it and I am inspired. However, this month, my time was minimal. I did not want to go without playing, so spent my little bit of time on “Yellow Submarine”.
Good luck to all on the upcoming drawing for that lovely Baritone (Like many others, I would love to be lucky enough to win this one)June 25, 2024 at 10:45 pm #62102
AndrewKeymaster@andyrose – Beautifully played Andy! I think you nailed the sustain, each note and chord rang beautifully into the next. My only suggestion would be to memorize the piece so you can focus 100% on your playing.
@lhamilton – Fun to play and equally fun to watch! That was awesome, your rhythmic chops sound great Linda!
@ldarrow – Excellent feel and playing Linda! I have two suggestions: Try looping the chorus and practice the section leading into it to eliminate those pauses. Also, give the same approach a shot for the single note section. Keep up the great work!June 26, 2024 at 12:14 am #62109
lhamiltonParticipantWow! Thanks Andrew — I really loved the arrangement.

This song kind of violates my personal policy of only playing happy, fun songs on this happy, fun instrument. But it was the one I liked the most of our June options and one I thought I might be able to learn within the month’s timeframe.

Here’s my June submission of Axel F. What a fun song to learn! Keeping in time with that backing track was certainly a challenge, especially the D section which I could barely keep on the rails. I have company coming soon, so here’s the best of my million takes.
I’m looking forward to everyone’s submissions. Happy Summer to all!

AndrewKeymaster@suekulele – I like your policy, but I gotta say, when you play a song like this with such beauty, it brings a lot of joy to the listener. I really enjoyed your take on it, Sue ❤️
@karenj – That was awesome Karen! Great groove! 🙂June 26, 2024 at 7:31 pm #62113
leb397Participant@lhamilton nice take on Ghost Busters. Not an easy one to tackle👏
@suekulele, very pretty. Lots of feeling.
@karenj I hear your comments since I submitted same Axel F. Keeping pace with back track you did nail it.
Lots of good entries. Coming down to the finish line 😁🎉June 26, 2024 at 9:38 pm #62114
lhamiltonParticipantThanks @leb397 ! My son watched Ghostbusters again and again and again from the time he was 3 — and when he wasn’t watching it, he was dressing up as a ghostbuster and hunting ghosts throughout the house.
