ripleyParticipantHi @fred21 🙂
Welcome to the forums! I thought your submission sounded great, especially the second half where you seemed to hit your stride. Many of us feel we mess up once the recording starts and are our own worst critics but I think if you heard someone else play like that you’d be pretty impressed!October 27, 2019 at 5:31 pm #33008

Ufii well I tried, not exactly without mistakes but I don’t have time to practice anymore this month and it is not easy to play with a knife stuck in your brain.
And there is no volume when playing so high up the fretboard, I was pulling the strings to get some sound and the hammer ons, pulls offs are not really audible.
Ok, enough excuses, I did my best. Through an amp with reverb to cover the lack of sustain. And YouTube has nice filters.
Fun arrangement. Chapeau for Evan.

Here is my version of Sound of Silence. This has always been one of my favorite songs and I’ve appreciated the chance to learn it. I wish it was cleaner, and know I especially need to work on my transitions. And my tone. And a consistent tempo. And the buzzing. It always goes so much worse when I hit record. Blame it on the ghosts? After a zillion takes, I just need to move on. The lights, by the way, are spiders. Despite the mistakes, it is nice to see some slow but steady progress since I first started. Thanks again for a great challenge. I’ve enjoyed everyone’s submissions so far and look forward to those yet to come.
Happy Halloween!!!

karenjParticipantI did love the Disturbed video of Sound of Silence and recalled an interview on NPR from awhile ago. It’s amazing how the facial expressions in the video influence the listening experience. Here’s a link if anyone is interested:

Only up to date picture of myself I have in years and I look silly. Way it goes. 🙂 Trick-or-Treat! & Happy Halloween! (I had 12 seconds to push the button and sit down and play for the picture so it’s the best I could do. lol)
My official one year playing ukulele happened on October 15. I think I improved.
This was the last take on a day I did like an hour worth of this song plus practice. I was kind of frustrated and over thinking the beginning but I had I slowed way down and was trying to just forget I was recording. (I play it faster than this usually but speed is whatever i’m in the mood for so it changes anyway.) Minor flubs but overall an okay take, pretty much representative of average-ish. Flubbed the second to last note and chopped out the swearing to keep it G rated lol. This has no effects or even editing really except I chopped out me strumming the first chord like 5 times in the beginning and the swearing and dialog at the end.
Oddly enough the soundcloud picture includes my costume head but it chops it off in the forum link. Anyway it’s supposed to be Spiro the dragon from Skylanders I guess. But whoever designed the snuggy costume just made it look like a really stoned purple dragon with candycorn wings in my opinion lol.

No costume today, just my rendering of Sleepwalk. I can hear you now … need to work on dynamics 😉 … I’m painfully 🙂 aware and will hopefully get there someday. Was playing around and inserted two ascending chords to lead into the final C (G# to A# to C) at the end. Thanks in advance.

MemberHI!
This is my first time to participate. I’ve been a premium member now for about 2 months. I had fun learning Sound of Silence and am looking to learning a few more.
I hope the link works.

jinajupiterParticipantlyndallk, amazing sound! And nice playing too
rickeymike What a cool effect with the lamp. The slide you make at the very beginning is very nice.
surfnrz. Are you a director? I like your performance as usual. Rocky Horror show is great. They came to Amsterdam during the Gay Games a sport event and the whole audience was full of cheering drag queens. So lots of fun for the actors as Well
becky7777. So beautifully and emotionally played, nice to finally hear something from you since I’m aboard-

becky7777ParticipantThanks @jina, (you’ve heard at least Stranger Things by me since you joined, probably Aloha Oe too btw.) Love the knife! 😋 Your Danse Macabre was awesome! Haven’t caught up on everyone’s submissions yet though.
I didn’t record If I Fell, because I hurt myself getting taken out in floodwaters. Only other challenges I didn’t record was doing Spanish Ukulele as my own challenge no one wanted me to share that, I asked, (don’t blame you guys, i’m still really bad, but I amused the mountain lion, so i’m not bad enough to be dinner!! 👍 ROFL!) right before the strumming one, and the single string Taxi thing I failed because.. inverted/over something jazz chords + a noob = noob learning I need intervals to hear… during the strumming one.)
Excited to catch up later!

Well I love Sound of Silence but it seemed deceptively hard to get it right. I spent a lot of time with a metronome and the player and played slowly. The oddest things were how slow the stumming had to be to stay in time with the slow picking – not very intuitive. No time for more takes and practice so here it is Andrew…

I’m all kinds of sorry for this video, but I couldn’t get a clean and steady take. I won’t have more time during the week to try cleaning it up (even though I’ve been practicing it the entire month). I have a list of things I don’t like about this video, but here it is anyway. Please excuse the false start, lol. I’m even worse at editing.

cauer2ParticipantHello All,
I’ve been looking at the posts for the challenge and it looks like everyone has been putting in a lot of time for their submissions. I just finished my submission video for the October challenge but i am having trouble uploading it to the challenge forum. Any help from anyone would be appreciated. I uploaded it to my YouTube channel but i cant figure the rest out.
Regards,
Chris A.-

kanae926ParticipantChris, all you have to do is copy the video URL from YouTube’s share feature and paste it here in the forum message in its own line. No code or uploading is necessary when it’s already on YouTube. I hope that helps.

cauer2Participantthanks Kanae, i’ll give that a try.
