Just wanted to share the adorable mini ukuleles that @johanna2509 sent me! They’re sooooo cute and also my smallest size of googly eyes fits them, so… 😅😂💕

The future of the ukulele seems very bright, but unfortunately, not so much for humans. You see, there’s evidence that some ukuleles have spontaneously been sprouting eyes and gaining AI-level sentience and can write their own music now – on themselves. Through string theory and other “math,” they are using the songs they create to decode the mysteries of the universe beyond human comprehension…
I clearly don’t know what string theory is, but oh my gosh that’s a good pun actually. 😅
For reals, I do think the future of the ukulele is bright because of the great uke players, teachers, and passionate students of ukulele that we have now, especially the youngling uke players, like the ones on RC101. 😊
@planetfink, the emotion definitely carries through! I’ve now listened to Billie Eilish’s original a few times, absolutely beautiful performance, but the emotional weight of the lyrics is almost too much for me to keep listening to, so I’ll just try to focus on the Barbie / ukulele side of things more. 😅😂 But yes, you captured the emotion of it perfectly. And I love Matt’s arrangement, too. 😊 The chorus is kind of tricky to memorize and play – I just finished initially learning it. 😂

What Was I Made For? is also the song I’m going to try this month. I did follow the link to original song that @Andrew posted and that really got to me, big time. I haven’t seen the Barbie movie, but just listening to the lyrics, it’s something I can really relate to – maybe interpreting the lyrics differently. Anyway, Matt’s arrangement is so beautiful, hoping I can handle some of those chords changes. 😅

I feel like the ukulele is, in some ways, one of the easier instruments to start noodling on, just because the first chords you learn on uke are pretty easy, like the C Major chord, F maj, G maj, and A minor chords and even just with those you can play some very pretty things without even thinking, just randomly fingerpicking while holding those chords. That’s what I did literally when I first started playing uke and I still love to play that way. For me it’s very therapeutic and relaxing to do that, to just relax and play through chords that way.
Even though I still only know a couple of notes on uke by name, I just try different chord shapes and create little melodies around those chords. It doesn’t always sound perfect but sometimes amazing things come from just trying different chord shapes that way. That’s one way I like to noodle. And again, learning really well written songs, like RC101’s, and reinventing them or simply just fingerpicking them differently or using a different technique to play the same-ish notes in the song. 😊
I’ll share another example of noodling soon, just gotta try to record a video! I hope more people decide to share their noodling examples. 😊
@leb397 hahaha! Thank you! I used the program MS Paint to draw that. It’s kind of a janky program but I love it. 😂 Hahaha yes! A little Rock Class 101 mascot! 😂😅
@gi_gi_ I’m so glad you love it!! 😂 With the idea about Drewmpa Loompas I have, I may draw that using non-digital materials, like physical pencils and such, so it can look more like Andrew lol. Because as much as I love MS Paint, it can be really hard to control.I did another version with more accurate colors to the Oompah Loompas. 😅 Also a slightly corrected version I “fixed” on my phone just to show how I might want to correct the face shape. 😂

I think the sulky, kind of brooding expression, the poofy green hair, along with the red and white striped tights are what I am most pleased with about it. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I’m not okay. 😂
Well… here’s the big reveal. Here is one depiction of the Drewmpa Loompas. This one is a little spicy. He might have a little bit of a ‘tude. 😅😅😅
There may be another version at some point. This is just an homage to the OG Oompa Loompas, of course. 😅
This is how I spend my Saturday! But today is a “creative things” day with various drawing projects, so there you have it. 😅😂
Okay, looking at the thumbnail before I post this, it did turn out as funny as I hoped. The thing that sent me over the edge was the stripped leggings – I forgot about that. 😂😂

@Stephen, ha, yes, well, not many people have heard of the Drewmpa Loompas because, well, there was a slight interruption in the timeline – the series of events that led to their creation via ukulele-based cloning (or UBC). @gi_gi_ and I had a plan in place and @Andrew, being a clever and resourceful fellow with powerful, ukulele-wielding friends, thwarted our schemes. Little does he know that that’s only what happened in this dimension…
…Ya know? 😂😅
Anyway! Thank you so much for the feedback! It was so much harder to play that song on the electric uke because of the reason you mentioned. I may have to mess around with the settings, hopefully I can figure that out. Thank you so much for the encouragement! 😊
@lhamilton, oh sweet! Now that makes perfect sense. Thank you! 😊 I think I may even have everything now to rig that up, including an extra strap, and little velcro loopy things that you use for organizing cords. Thank you so much, I really appreciate your idea! 😁💕

That’s a really good idea to use two straps, I never thought of that! I can’t exactly picture where you would attach the second strap though. Or do you mean they would be both positioned the way the straps normally are, except there are two of them? Do you have that setup in your videos playing the Flight electric uke? Thanks so much for your idea! It’s so true that ukes aren’t necessarily naturally suited for women, especially, to play. I’ve had that thought before, but thought it might be too controversial / awkward to bring up, but it’s just so true. 😂
@leb397, thank you so much! I really love the sound of that electric uke so much, too, and am so grateful to have won it from here! 😊 I need to play it more. Maybe I can find a way to balance the weight of it better. Oh and I knew Where Is My Mind before but just didn’t love it until I heard Steven’s version. Your take of Dream A Little Dream was so lovely! You played it perfectly! 😊💕 Bar chords are tricky, I used to struggle with those a lot more but made a point to use them whenever possible while playing uke, and now I love to use them. 😅 I almost would say I prefer to use them over fretting with individual fingers. To me they’re more comfortable now because I’m used to playing with them. That might make me a freak but that somehow just happened that way by making a point to play them whenever possible. Anyway, very lovely take on that one! 😁💕

Haha! Do you mean the live lesson video about baritone versus high g/low g? Matt pretty much always, very kindly, reads my ramblings during the live lesson (because they always create a post every month here where you can write your questions/comments and Matt will read them) and it’s so much fun. Ha, I was pretty pleased with that poem, especially since I didn’t work on it as long as some. 😂

Rest assured, the Drewmpa Loompas WILL exist, one way or the other. ;)🤣🤣Thank you so much for your kind words, my friend! 🙂 Well, I was only playing parts of it for a week or so, then I learned the rest of it. That’s probably not how you’re suppose to do it. 🤣 I was playing the fancy part a lot on my little soprano high g because I really enjoyed that part, and also the intro. I had a lot of trouble memorizing the verse of that song, for some reason, which is why that’s the roughest part, I think. Also, it sounded weird on my high g, so when I started playing it on the low g tenor, it was like playing it for the first time, lol. Thank you, I love that electro-uke; I really need to play it more often. (Edit: listening back to my performance, for whatever reason, it kind of sounds like on a piano keyboard when they have the “car horn” synthesizer. Really terrible… 🤣 Maybe I’ll get another take on my concert high g, just to show that it doesn’t sound like complete and utter trash always, LOL.) Thank you about the drawing! I have better ones than that, but I don’t want to go too off the rails again. 🤣
