The_Bumble_BardParticipantReally cool!! Love the sound of that. I also have to say, I love the term “Frankentune” a great deal. π Thanks for sharing! π
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@johanna2509, congratulations! That’s so awesome that you’ve completed your masters thesis! Quite an accomplishment! Also really awesome that you now have more time for creative things. π
Those keychains are sooo adorable! I don’t know if you could do it, but I feel like that’s something you could sell on Etsy. π I love those though. I love your color choices too.
Ha, that’s completely understandable with the tattoos! I’ve had a passing thought about getting a tattoo, too, but true, they’re, ya know, kind of a long term thing. π I never gotten one either for the same exact reasons and because I’m phobic of the tools they use. So much so I don’t even want to write what they are. π Your tattoo design is really cute though.
Thank you so much about my drawings! I love MS Paint for nostalgic kind of reasons and because of how very simple it is. That’s also why I love uke because of its “limited parameters” and “simplicity,” but also contained within that is seemingly limitless creative potential, and I love that. I think that’s where I creatively thrive the most is using very simple tools and trying to push the boundaries of those tools. Also, with MS Paint and the tochapad, I think comfort and familiarity is part of why that works for me. I really struggle with the technical aspects of my creative pursuits even though I have tried to learn them. I am bad at that. π That’s why I like technically simple tools.
Thank you so much for the reply!! No worries about the delay at all. ππ
The_Bumble_BardParticipantHello again!
Just wanted to share here that, after a year’s time, and after having learned so much from RC101, specifically from Andrew and Matt, the latter of whom helped me so much with this venture of writing down tabs – First, writing them by hand without any measures, note values (?), or anything like that, and now, I was able to write out this tab using GuitarPro. That said, not sure if it is “correct” because Matt hasn’t looked at it yet and we haven’t gotten to talk about it yet. LOL.
I just wanted to share that here because it means so much to me on so many levels that I was able to do that, and I feel like I owe that to all the encouragement and help from my friends here at RC101. It honestly makes me really emotional. π
Part of the emotion is that this song is the first song I ever arranged for uke and the first one I was ever able to fully write out (with Matt’s help), and now it is a “complete” tab (though again, maybe not 100% correct). LOL. I learned so much just by learning all the songs on Rock Class 101 and seeing what makes a great arrangement, though obviously mine are really simple.
I don’t think there’s a way to share the file here, but I just wanted to share that with y’all here. π π
Side note, I happened to notice this is the 2000th post in the forum, Showcase Your Playing. Utterly pointless observation. LOL. Thank you for reading. π

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@leb397, agreed on all points! The amount of time, effort, and love that goes into these challenges is so inspiring and appreciated. I also love reading through the feedback, it’s so insightful. Many thanks to @Andrew and @Stephen, and all the RC101 teachers, for all they do! π
(Doesn’t bring up Drewmpa Loompas again for no reason but is definitely thinking about it – the irony of this statement is real) π

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@gi_gi_!! π ππ π I’m crying and snort laughing from this again. C’mon!! ππ You’d think they’d want the Drewmpa Loompas for the ukulele factory… ππ ππ
Oh my gosh, my stomach hurts… ππ π
Okay, we’ll save the rest for later. π ππ

The_Bumble_BardParticipantSuch great song choices indeed! Imma try Where Is My Mind? on my electric uke, so excited that was one of the options! Hopefully I can do okay with it! π
The song choices are really good and the ukes are so, so beautiful, but I have strong mixed feelings about this change. πππ @gi_gi_, they thwarted our schemes! π π₯Ίπ

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@robinboyd, that was so lovely! You always play with such expressiveness. There are only some very minor hiccups that could be smoothed out but it’s still very beautiful. I hope you can try to make more time to play uke, and sometimes share it here. π

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@gi_gi_ haha!! I know this tangent could continue to spiral so quickly (more than it already has). I cry laugh every time this comes up. π ππ Haha thank you, I’m so glad we can goof around about that. π No, that particular tangent has a special energy to it. It is immortal, just like the Drewmpa Loompas will be… πππ
That was such a lovely take of that one! So beautiful. I really love that song. I still want to go back and learn it on my electric uke. I hope you keep playing that one! ππ
And I’ll say again. Everyone’s entries were very lovely. Such an amazing group of people on RC101. π

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@gi_gi_, I won’t lie to you, I actually have gone back a couple of times to reread that tangent between you and I because it was so flippin’ funny. ππ I think that’s part of why I got the giggles again while trying to record that. ππ Oh my, we are trouble…
Just a real quick aside, part of what will make the Drewmpa Loompas special (once we genetically engineer them) is their melee combat abilities. Along with having refined musical skill, they also will have an innate ability to fight off intruders, stray dogs, and any rogue caupuchins who step out of line as the DL’s train them.
π
One of us has to win that baritone… ππ ππΊ

The_Bumble_BardParticipantI AM A PREMIUM MEMBER
Hello uke friends! π
I started this month thinking that I would try Moonlit Trio, but the first two weeks of this month were seemingly a loss, so I didn’t even get to start practicing until then. :S Then, I realized I was too overwhelmed by the amount of strumming in Moonlit Trio, quite sadly, so I decided to go with Punk-182 instead – especially after seeing Kathy’s (planetfink?) and Linda’s (lhamilton, who has the same electric uke as I do :] ) awesome takes of that one earlier this month (along with all the others that followed). So many amazing entries this month. It’s so inspiring, thanks to everyone for sharing. π
There were still so many challenges with Punk-182. From the picado picking, to the tenor sized electric-y uke (because I’m used to playing my soprano uke), to the strumming and muting, to the actual style of the song which seems to be more guitar-ish-y. Nonetheless, it’s such a cool song, and even though I thought I was doing terribly with it, I listened back to it and it wasn’t *as* bad as I thought. I did mess up the ending though, big time. LOL.
I wanted to do more takes and also try the “Pixies” song “Where Is My Mind?” (because it’s also for low g, and my electric uke is my only low g uke) but sadly started not feeling well and had to stop. Perhaps tomorrow. π
Thank you to Andrew for this amazing challenge, amazing songs, and for offering your DNA as a prize! @gi_gi_ LOLOlolol
The_Bumble_BardParticipantHeeeeelloo! Perhaps you thought I’d never post any uke art here again but nay, I have finally created more. Well, it’s all good, but I’m glad I got to paint again.
Yesterday I was at a birthday party, a painting party, and I made this little thing. For some reason this is an image I had in mind for a while. I’m slightly disappointed by the execution of it. I may go back and correct a few things. It’s hard to paint amid the chaos of a party that includes multiple small children and two crazy dogs. Those are my excuses. π π
I actually have multiple ideas like this, involving visuals of ukuleles and flowers. I may start painting more at home and not just at parties…
Thanks to anyone who looks at it! π
Anyway here it is (sadly had to crop it because the file size was slightly too big):

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@brettboy, you are hilarious. How are you real? I’m cry laughing from that. You’re just so dang enthusiastic. ππ Also, that was perfect. Really perfect. I’m pretty sure it was your destiny to play that song because you captured the spirit perfectly, and you did iron out the tiny little hesitations from the last play through. Thank you for sharing that! π
April 8, 2024 at 1:45 pm in reply to: April 9, 2024 – Live Lesson: 4 Different Types of Fingerstyle Techniques #61201
The_Bumble_BardParticipantInteresting thoughts, @gi_gi_!
Now I have to ponder that for a while. π
I think it’s good to try different techniques, but focus mainly on what you love to do. That’s how I feel about it. π
These are my guesses for what your 4 fingerpicking techniques are, Matt:
1. Tremolo
2. Picado picking
3. That one technique that’s half strumming / half fingerpicking
4. Drewmpa Loompa picking (that’s the technique when you summon your faculty of Drewmpa Loompas to serenade you as their capuchin friends strum at wildly different rhythms)πππ π
Looking forward to this lesson!

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@marianne and @dianna, so glad you were amused by our shenanigans yesterday. π Boy that spiraled quickly and tbh I’m trying not to restart that tornado of mischief. ππ
I love Just Like My Dreams, too. They have the lyrics, along with two mp3’s of it (one being the original version which is really cool), in the store on the site. I bought it when Andrew originally posted the song. π
@leb397, settled down for the moment, but I don’t think that tangent is quite done for good. π π
@gi_gi_, oh my, we need to be seated separately from now on in class. I’m not even remotely over that tangent. ππ ππ πApril 2, 2024 at 5:19 pm in reply to: Participate in the April 2024 Challenge: Double Kanile’a Giveaway ($4,500) #61156
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@gi_gi_ hahaha oh my gosh, we did hijack thread, but I guess weβll cap it there. That tangent filled my heart with too much joy. π ππ Thatβs going to pop into my head randomly as the day goes by. π π
But Drewmpa Loompas though. Cβmon! π
