The_Bumble_BardParticipant@gi_gi_ ROFL I’m dying even more now, man. So glad we’re on the same page. ππππ π ππππ
With the DNA, you could clone him and produce a working faculty of 1/8 – 1/4 size Droompa Loompas (Drewmpa Loompas) who could answer all your questions and serenade you on a whim. I made myself cry laugh. Sorry. ππ π
@Andrew, do you like that idea? π πI’ll go back to trying to behave now…

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@gi_gi_ haha I know, @Marianne always has next level performances. Haha yes that’s all it takes is having the same instrument, but by that logic if you win Andrew’s uke, will you be able to play like @Andrew?! And also potentially collect his DNA…? ππππ π
Her uke does sound beautiful, as does Andrew’s in the challenge video. ‘twould be very cool to win that! π

The_Bumble_BardParticipantYay, congrats @deadbuggy! Pretty uke! π

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@gi_gi_ hahaha so true! I’ve never played a baritone uke before but it sounds so beautiful. That seriously would be a dream. ππ Obviously, the appeal has nothing to do with the fact that Andrew has played the uke. ππ ππ That is really cool and sweet though, probably a sentimental prospect for anyone here who loves RC101. π
Oh I missed your edit, Gi Gi. I also was thinking of trying Moonlit Trio OR the impossibly difficult gypsy jazz one. I’m fairly sure that was one of the options. ππ

The_Bumble_BardParticipantSo exciting! What a beautiful and eclectic spread of tunes indeed. Agreed with what @gi_gi_ said, it’s impossible to choose. π
Also, those kanile’as… I feel like I shouldn’t be allowed to have either of those, due to being excessively clumsy and an excessive fangirl, but they’re both really beautiful. I think I actually started drooling looking at the second one… ππ
Oh my gosh, and there’s a golden ticket that you can win that lets you go to Uke Land! Wow, what a challenge… π

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@ldarrow, I’m so sorry for the struggle you’ve had with the fingers on your left hand. That is so frustrating when it’s something physical that impedes something you love to do. Any kind of impediment, whether physical or mental, that hinders what you love to do is so hard to deal with, but despite all of that you pushed through and your playing sounded so beautiful. On my right hand, my ring finger is bent slightly toward my middle finger from an injury which is why I prefer three finger picking so I don’t have to use that finger (though maybe I should start using that finger more honestly), so I feel your pain with that. I’m very happy you’re working through it and still sharing here. ππ
@jbmills07, so very beautiful! Beautiful playing. Pretty much perfect. Always happy to see The Lady Zigs, as well. ππππ»
@nelsonlin2021, haha! Thank you. I won’t lie to you, I amused myself probably too much with that video, partly due to the poor quality of certain aspects of it, including my singing, but that to me is very funny, when it’s a “low budget production.” π Thank you for your kind words, yes, their love story was too pure to not share. π π Your performance was very lovely. Playing with feeling like that always takes things to another level. π-

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@gi_gi_ hahaha!!! Well, that doesn’t happen super often when it takes that few for me, but a lot of it for me relates to the anxiety of recording and how long I can sort of deal with that in one sitting. That’s part of why my recordings are very rarely perfect (apart from the fact that I often don’t practice enough because of my hyperactive tendencies and trouble focusing). π π I love how specific that number of takes is. π ππ But you see it’s the million and eleventh take that is the most satisfying once you’ve gotten it. ππ I’m cracking up about the intensity of your reaction but also completely understand. That song does seem so hard but I still want to try it. Yes, Andrew is a genius, plain and simple. That’s how I view all the teachers here but he’s brilliant in multiple ways. Yes, I guess that’s why he’s in charge. π π
I have to go back to making mashed potatoes and cookies simultaneously for the gathering later. I’m the potato lady in my family (and the cookie lady). ππ₯π₯πͺπͺ Happy Easter to all who celebrate! ππ

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@ldarrow, that was so beautiful! You played that with such feeling. Really lovely. The anxiety of recording can be so hard to overcome but you did very well with it. And it’s frustrating if you do know you CAN do better, but it’s like a different part of your brain takes over and you forget everything you learned. π π At least that’s what happens with me unfortunately. Anyway, really beautifully played!
@gi_gi_, that was so dang magical! All those takes but you finally nailed it! π I pretty much never get any of these recordings in under ten takes. π π Anyway very lovely playing! I want to learn all these songs now, they’re all so great. Also, side note, you always look so nice all the time. It takes everything I have sometimes to not look like bedraggled beyond all reason. I love your style, too! πThank you, @Andrew, for creating these challenges and for all your great feedback always! It’s always so helpful, encouraging, and informative to read. π

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@suekulele, haha, I didn’t even notice any grey, I was more fixated on the epic swoop, looks really nice, but I feel like we always notice things like that about ourselves more than anyone else does. Slight side tangent, at one point I dyed my hair bright orange and the reference picture I gave the hairdresser was the girl from The Fifth Element movie. π π She talked me down to a more “respectful” shade of orange, just because with certain colors, they don’t fade out well. Very expensive, but at some point I’d like to do that again. But anyway, I meant with you holding the uke on your lap… That’s pretty much always how I hold my ukes, but now I’m thinking maybe it is better to hold it the way you normally do, with your forearm (as that’s the proper way it’s taught to be held). I always play a soprano or concert uke so that could be a factor. From what I understand, how you’re holding it in that video is kind of how players hold guitars when they’re playing classical guitar? I may be wrong about that. I guess the main drawback with NOT holding with your forearm is that the sound could be more muffled? Thanks for the reply!! π

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@bibilele, haha, oh that explains it. That’s actually a pretty cool, somewhat accidental effect, and also I love that wallpaper. π At first I thought it might’ve been a mural. I have a couple of friends who painted one of their walls green to create green screen effects. It “sort of” worked (it was glitchy in places where the paint was imperfect). π That’s why it didn’t seem impossible that that’s what you did. π π

The_Bumble_BardParticipantSuch amazing playing by everyone, just wanted to reply to a few on this page.
@marianne, so beautiful! That song sounds very lovely on your uke and you played it so perfectly. Really a joy to listen to. π
@suekulele, very beautifully played! Random note, I love your hair. π I also noticed that the way you hold the uke is kind of like how I hold it and I noticed others hold it that way too. I know that’s not technically the “correct” way to hold it. I’m intrigued by that difference. Anyway, really beautifully played! Also agree with @leb397 that your joy at the end is fun to behold! That thrill you get when you’ve made it through a good take. π
@brettboy, such a fun song, really well played! Your spirited way of playing, and seemingly existing, is always fun to behold. ππ
@bibilele, such beautiful playing! Your playing is always very smooth, elegantly flowing when you play. Did you use a green screen for your video of some kind…? But also the lighting seems to be actually changing…? π
@janaq1, so beautiful, you played that so perfectly! You’re a very skillful player o’ the uke overall. π
@gi_gi_, thank you so much for your kind words! ππ Coming from you, who is a great singer, I really appreciate that. I was so scared with the singing (more so that my neighbors would hear), but in that take my voice was less shaky than the first few. I hope to get a better video with the ukes’ “characters” showing more in the future. π Anyway, thank you! I kind of wanted to cry your comment was so nice. πMarch 26, 2024 at 11:43 pm in reply to: Participate in the March 2024 Member Challenge: Irish Songs! #61024
The_Bumble_BardParticipant@Andrew, haha, thank you so much! So glad you found it funny. I rewrote the lyrics a couple of times until the overarching theme/story manifested itself, and actually that’s genuinely what helped me push through the struggle of singing and playing, and my nervousness. The ukes needed their story to be told. π π
@dianna, ha, thank you so much!! Ha, I have wanted to make the Ukies come to life for some time, but this seemed like the perfect opportunity. π π Well, TBH, they’ve always been alive, I’m just sharing that with everyone here now, lol. Your entry was so magical, I really loved it! So much fun. I feel like everyone is also upping their video editing game, including yours. π
@leb397, I agree with everyone, that’s such a beautiful and touching tribute to your mom. Very beautifully played, perfect. I’m sorry for your loss. πEveryone’s entries were so good this month, such challenging songs, but everyone did amazingly well with them! π

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@leb397, thank you so much for that, my friend! ππ That seriously means a lot that you say that. I know my singing isn’t the best but I threw caution to the wind because I was pleased how the lyrics and everything turned out. I wanted to do a thumbnail video with both the ukes overlayed over the video of me playing, but I need to get different video editing software for that. π Haha thank you so much about my haircut, my friend actually cut off about ten inches of hair! I’m so happy with it. Quite literally a burden lifted. π Thank you again!! ππ

The_Bumble_BardParticipantHello, uke friends!
So many amazing entries so far! I watched all of them and they’re all so good.
And then there’s this… πππ
I won’t lie to you; I am very pleased with the overall level of jankiness this has. Very pleased. πIt is not what I envisioned exactly, due to SEVERAL struggles along the way, including re-writing the lyrics multiple times, learning them by ear in the car and then realizing they weren’t quite right with the music, then having to re-learn the song with the music. I originally was going to record the vocals separately, but again there were issues with syncing them together, so I had to relearn the song while playing – so flippin’ hard! This is the first time I’ve ever tried to do that, lol. I also was going to try to play the sopranissimo uke while the other uke “sang” but that uke is tuned in a different key (D tuning, I think). So, my plans with this changed many times.
Also, I did record the vocals in the car because I was scared my neighbors would hear, but then I realized I had no choice and re-recorded them tonight while playing.
I thought about not doing this and changing to something else multiple times, as well, because I wanted it to be perfect and it really couldn’t be, but then I thought – the reason I wanted to do this song this way is because I hoped it would be funny at least. To me it is, but I understand how this might frighten / disturb / disgust others. π Still, I may try to redo this at some point to be closer to what I envisioned.
The “story” is that the alien ukes are “in love” [kind of a situationship] and are singing to each other. Not sure if that’s obvious. π
Here are the lyrics:
Ingrid (the sopranissimo [lady] uke):
Oh, Ukie Boy, the frets, the frets are calling
To play a tune upon thy mutant strings
Thy eyes are ears and you can see the melody
On our home world that’s how all creatures seeUkebert (the soprano [boy] orange, many-eyed uke):
I’ll join you now via inter-dimensional splitting
My doppelgΓ€nger with a terrible Irish accent
I see this tune as clearly as I see your dreams
I watch you sleep, oh Ukie Girl, I watch you sleep…
So that’s what happened…
@Andrew, I hope you find this funny and see that it’s all for the silliness of it all. But also sorry. Also, please omit me from the prize drawing. Thank you so much! πhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eK22vPonsZc
The “yes” at the end was because I was so excited I made it through in one take. π

The_Bumble_BardParticipant@willw18, very pretty!! π
@shmu88, very lovely playing! I think that tune sounds a lot like the Scottish tune “Loch Lomond.” Not exactly the same, but very similar. Lovely indeed! π
@lhamilton, very beautiful! I agree with @leb397 that your whistling is always on point! So very beautiful.
@leb397, haha, thank you! Hopefully I can pull together what I’m imagining. I have been practicing every day this month but I realized I might have mis-memorized part of it. Whoopsies, hopefully I can fix that. ππ π³ Looking forward to your performance of that one, it’s so pretty! π -
