diannaParticipant@the_bumble_bard this challenge is right up your alley!…….and I’m loving what you have shared so far and looking forward to watching your progress. I agree with @gi_gi_ your noodling thread has been inspiring…..as a result, I have tried a little noodling and can see that it is a really cool way to explore musical parameters and embrace the creative process. Fun (and maybe a litte intimidating)….Thanks for the challenge @Andrew!
Stay safe @emiliano

diannaParticipantThis may have been my favorite ‘Live Lesson’ yet……it was inspiring….thank-you Matt…..Also, where can I find that ukulele rendition of 5 foot 2?

diannaParticipantWow – Thank-you so much Andrew! It was an interesting challenge…..in my mind, because it was a ‘beginners’ piece, I thought….no problem, this will be easy…….was I wrong! It was easy to memorize because I know and love this tune…..Technically, I didn’t find it too bad (I like bar chords), but did have a challenge with my thumb. But, Wow! What a great challenge for tempo and mood and nuance! Kudos to Matt for creating this cool, understated arrangement!
My take away……..none of these pieces are “easy”……there is a challenge in all of them from beginners to advanced.

diannaParticipantI posted earlier this month, but continued working on Dream a Little Dream. Andrew had recommended working with a clicker/metronome which I did. Then a couple days ago, I grabbed a backing track from U-tube to help keep tempo consistent. I don’t usually play with my thumb so that felt a little awkward……still not perfect….and the backing track was faster than I was used to…..so probably could keep on improving….
Great month…..impressive submissions…..also, I loved all the songs thanks Rock Class 101.

diannaParticipantThanks Andrew, I will continue practicing using the metronome and play-along video and try to re-post before the end of the month😁

May 12, 2024 at 10:53 pm in reply to: May 14, 2024 – Live Lesson: Baritone vs. High/Low G Ukulele #61624
diannaParticipantI have found that if you are going to play on a regular basis, you must have both low and high g ukes, and therefore you must have at least 2 ukuleles……..which is the beginning of a collection and ukulele acquisition syndrome……..I’m guessing that most of our members have more than one uke……I’m curious as to the accuracy of this statement…..How many ukes do you have?
I have 2 concert ukes – 1 low g and 1 high g, a tenor low g, and a small travel uke for long distance hiking. I also have 2 banjo ukes (1 needs a lot of work). and a tenor uke my father built for me. That’s a total of 7! I don’t have a baritone, but would like one because I love its deeper voice (but then I would have to learn how to play it)….
I don’t think you can ever have too many ukuleles!

diannaParticipantThanks @Andrew……that dang thumb! This is a great piece to practice proper thumb placement….I think I have developed bad habits that are difficult to break.

Loved the selections this month it was really hard to decide….finally began focusing on 4/4 Waltz…quite mesmerizing……Still needs some work on maintaining legato throughout and consistant flow…
I’m enjoying everyone’s submissions. Thanks Andrew and Rock Class 101.

diannaParticipant@The_Bumble_Bard and @gi_gi_ you are cracking me up hijacking the thread😂😂😂
@Andrew – I see, both pieces, yours and Adrian’s seem to have been inspired by something “achy-breaky”. ..Wow…….and you channeled it into the creative process to share with all of us. How lucky are we. I can see that you both put your heart and soul into the music…..and then the “Band” did the same…….cool to see the ripple effect of your creation……I just have to call out Evan’s solo (though everyone was amazing)…..his was otherworldly….especially in your piece. One more thing…….I think what makes these pieces so special is that so often ‘achy-breaky’ can take us down, but through music you have both transmuted heartbreak into something though bittersweet it is uplifting (yours) and haunting (his)…….musical alchemists…..
Also, can you post the lyrics to your song….ty

diannaParticipantGorgeous pieces…….I’m always astonished at the caliber of lessons we have here……such a blessing for lovers of the ukulele. I agree with @gi_gi, Andrew’s ‘Just Like My Dreams,’ is stunning…..and the performance is amazing……you can feel the exuberant emotion in the piece….it’s joyful. What an honor it must be for the one who inspired it.
I do have a question…….I love the gypsy jazz piece ‘The Achy Waltz’…..it has a lilting, haunting quality…..why is it called “The Achy Waltz”?

diannaParticipant@Andrew thank-you for the excellent critique….that will make the difference…..I could hear it in your lesson…..I think my staccato became more pronounced during the tricky parts, especially when the inside of my left hand blocked the sound on the A-string as I was picking with my right. I will work on that….thanks!
@The_Bumble_Bard…..that was adorable….your ukies came to life! Cute lyrics – a real ukulele love story….so much fun! Well done! (Good job singing too)
@leb397 my condolences to you…..but what a beautiful tribute to your Mom…..that song is a keeper and I can imagine her listening each time you play it…..♥️ -
