kayleighbMemberThanks Andrew. I was so bummed that I missed that last note. It has been particularly hot in the UK and I think sweaty hands had made my grip a bit loose! If I mess up on the next one I will remember to just keep going rather than stop until I get the note! 😁

kayleighbMemberHere is my entry for this month’s challenge. Time was limited this month so haven’t got it perfected yet. A couple of mistakes in which I’m annoyed about but this was the gazillionth take so will do! Found not strumming the top string really difficult and my grip of the Uke wasn’t as sturdy when I moved down the fretboard

kayleighbMemberCongrats Luke! Not jealous at all! 😉
Well done everyone, it was really nice as a newbie to see so many different people playing!

kayleighbMemberHi Andrew. I have been eagerly awaiting the new challenge (it is now 8:15pm in the UK). I’m looking forward to going back to basics on this one and starting to learn the correct technique – had to wing it a little on Spongebob as it was my first uke song! Thank you (and Uke Republic) for putting these challenges on. Kay

kayleighbMemberThanks Andrew. Bar 7 has been a real stumbling block for me, just haven’t quite been able to get it, but that was my best attempt at it yet. Have learned most of it by looping, just that one bar! It will come in time and I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge 🌝

kayleighbMemberHere is my entry for the June challenge; This is the first song I have ever played on the uke, and so I have tried really really hard to get up to 50% speed. It’s not perfect, but as a complete beginner I’m okay with that. I know I have a lot to work on, including using my other fingers for fingerpicking and not just my thumb!

kayleighbMemberThank you so much for getting back to me. I’m a donut and labelled my bars wrong, It’s bar 7 where it moves down the fret board to 10th fret of the first string.
I am going through the more basic lessons too, I used to play the flute up to 8th grade (the highest grade here in the UK) and found that it helped to put fundamentals into practise with a tune I was very familiar with so am applying that to the uke too.

kayleighbMemberHi Andrew. Hope your therapy is going well!.
So I have a question. I’ve only been playing a couple of weeks – and know 3 chords, and can just about strum so this is proving to be a real challenge for me. I can now play all the way through albeit only at about 25% speed – hoping to get up to 50% for the challenge entry. My question is I really struggle with bar 6 – from moving down from the last open 2nd in bar 5 to the first chord of bar 6 – it’s like my brain can’t shift to that end of the fret board. That probably makes no sense!
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Kay x

kayleighbMemberHi! Total newbie here, and new to the uke too! I’m going to try this challenge and really make myself focus on a song rather than trying to learn specific chords. I must say already my fingers are hurting but hopefully muscle memory will kick in soon enough. Going to try Spongebob for the June challenge! Looking forward to hearing everyone’s takes at the end of the month. Kay x
