kayleighbMemberThere is a greatest showman book for the ukelele (I have it). Whilst the songs are notated it does have the chords written above. You could play around with the fingerpicking within the chords and work it out by ear?
I REALLY want Evan’s arrangement of This is Me. Hint hint Andrew- future lesson perhaps?

kayleighbMemberThanks for this Andrew! And thanks for choosing my question!
kayleighbMember@miztaken I was in the same boat last year. Phil ordered me an Ohana uke I had spent months researching to find the one I wanted. He wouldn’t let me have it until Christmas day. I managed to persuade him to let me ‘test’ it beforehand but only got 5 minutes with it 😋

kayleighbMemberThanks Drew. I’ll keep working on that chord transition as I’m determined to get it up to speed which as you know is my downfall. The rest of the tune I can do at 70% as I’ve really hammered it this month, just keep tripping up over that chord!
kayleighbMemberI find it easier to learn if I don’t look at the tab. Learn from the video and then it’s just a case of repetition. Some bits are always easier to learn from others and you will find at some point the song will just click into place, but that takes longer for some than others.
I always print of the tab for reference, but find if I use it too much I end up relying on it
kayleighbMemberOh and I love my flurocarbons. I much prefer the m to the Aquilas!
kayleighbMemberMaureen stick with the wound 3rd for a while and see how you get on. I’ve been told it takes some time to settle but the pay off in sound is worth it.
I spoke to Southern Ukelele store about strings for my uke and they advised on a couple that would suit the wood and build. Maybe reach out to them if in the UK or Mike at Uke Republic and see what they recommend.

kayleighbMemberGood to know! My uke is my baby (aside from my cat) so I’ll leave her as high G for now and at some point if I get another Uke I can play around with low G. Plus there is no one I’d trust locally to file the nut if it needed it. My next buy will hopefully be a Soprano so the one after that will be a low G 😁

kayleighbMemberJust record your practise Kanae! I never meant to record that to submit, I quite often record myself and listen/watch back to see where I need to improve (it sometimes doesn’t sound as bad as I think it does in my head). That practise came out ok so was like, yeah that’ll do 😂 It also takes the pressure off a bit x

kayleighbMemberWell done Curly. I thought that piece was deceptively difficult. All the individual elements were fine and could play them at 70% speed which is a huge achievement for me. But then putting them together got me like 😭

kayleighbMemberAh!! I’ll be doing La Ganita this month as I don’t have a Low G uke…little bit gutted, but looking forward to getting stuck into the strumming and fingerpicking techniques which I’ve tried briefly in other challenges 😁

kayleighbMemberI AM A PREMIUM MEMBER
Here is my October challenge (please excuse the tacky halloween editing haha!)
Man I really struggled with that chord change. I was working on speed this month, and was doing well except for that first chord change which tripped me up every time. So I switched tactics and worked on dynamics instead to help me get there. Is that cheating the system 😂😉

kayleighbMemberThis question is two fold.
1. What is it about your TRU bracing system that makes such a difference to the intonation & sustain of the instrument?
2. As a novice what should I be looking for in terms of bracing – how would I spot “bad” bracing?October 6, 2018 at 5:41 am in reply to: Participate in the September 2018 Member Challenge – Fingerpicking Themed! #18930
kayleighbMemberCongrats nggnmm! That’s a sweet uke!
