    Progress report. I’m learning baby it’s cold outside as I figured how hard would it be to sing and play? Well turns out its blooming difficult. Ive memorised the music, can play all the way through with only minor stumbling blocks. But as soon as I put vocals on top it all goes to pieces. Feeling super frustrated 😔

    So I think I finally decided on the uke upgrade – only to then find out it’s out of stock with Southern Ukelele where I was looking doh!

    Anyway, it’s the Ohana CK39 concert model. I must hace watched a gazillion youtube reviews of different ukes but this seems to be the one I keep coming back too.

    I’ve messaged the retailer to find out if/when it will be back.

    This one looks like a close 2nd;

    Thanks Andrew & Chip. I never realised that, I thought they were US based. Looking at the hospital list they are in Harefield where as a teenager I had heart surgery. I might get in contact with them outside of here as they are not yet in Manchester and see if there is anything we can do to get them into St Mary’s which is our local children’s hospital.

    Thanks Andrew. I got really frustrated with that as I went into the strum using the wrong finger. I found if I fret using my middle finger its easier to then lay down my index to carry on and the gap is less noticeable. I went into the strum on this take (which was about the 70th time I’d recorded it) using my index finger and it threw me off 😊

    Such an amazing challenge this month. I’m not aware of the cause as it is not here in the UK so having had a look at the amazing work they do it is the perfect challenge for the christmas season.

    Wow, Chipkk you are amazing! I actually got goosebumps reading your post.

    Ok, so I totally failed at trying 2 songs this month – I blame work!

    Here is Our First Song revisited instead – I got the penultimate note unlike last time yippee

    and here is the July 2017 version;

    I’ve asked Santa for ££’s this year to go towards a new concert size ukelele which I hope to be able to purchase in the new year (once I decide what one I want), so hopefully soon I can put my little £30 Mahalo to rest. She has done me well so far.

    Bit late to the game as we were in Italy on a short break 😊 super interesting video, I found it interesting that Taimaine composes from a melody first. Way back when I used to be profficient in flute I used to compose from the opposite way, so I’d take a concept and then try to add musicality to it. Always interesting to see how unique music appreciation and composition is to each person x

    Thanks Andrew. I was sat in an awkward position as the cat had fallen asleep behind me haha!

    Aw yay love this challenge! I’m going to aim for 2 posts this month. The first one will be our first song as this is one I’ve regularly practised as a warm up since the July Challenge so will be able to post an up to date one next week. But I also want to give I’m yours a go and move up to that intermediate bracket. We are on holiday part way through the month so will see how much time I get. Thanks Andrew!

    Well here is my butchered version of the Addams Family. I so wanted to do this one justice but I’ve had maybe 3 hours practise time tops over the course of the month to learn and memorise it. Gutted! I really struggled with the ending when you move further up the fretboard, my fingers just don’t play ball. If nothing else, you will witness the return of my frustrated face.

    Thanks. That’s super helpful. Probably looking in the region of £150-£200 max so should be able to get a fairly decent one for that. Definately leaning towards Kala as that seems to be an industry standard make. It’s just looking at the different woods/finishes. Want to make sure I get the right one 😁

    Thanks Darrell will check them out. This is what I’m looking into at the moment as there are different woods and finishes and as a complete novice I’ve no idea what the difference is. I think for now I’m looking at a step up one rather than a keeper just due to price (saving for our wedding).

    I have a very cheap Mahalo ukelele which I got at Christmas. Switched out the strings for aquila and got a clip on tuner straight away. Doesn’t have the best sound however as I had never played before it has done me well. Am looking to upgrade now possibly to a concert size but there are too many options to choose from!

    Ah I’m so late to the game on this one. Work is so busy! I’m going to give Addams Family a go, was only watchimh Addams Family Values the other day, freaking love that film! Will see how far I get in the next week. Thanks Andrew for another great challenge and great to see so many entries this month 😁 Kay x
