I remember this scene from 55 years ago like it was yesterday. Ironically, really struggled to remember Andrew’s arrangement. And still struggle to remember what verse I’m on. My first full month on this site, I had no business taking on a Level 4 song. Got all the way up to 75 bpm with Andrew (starting at 25) before I realized how terrible I sounded on my own. Back to square one! Have made considerable progress, considering, but still this post aptly demonstrates virtually every issue Andrew is trying to help us overcome. Trying to address all these issues is like playing whack-a-mole. Trying hard to not be frustrated, but rather happy with the journey so far. This scene is kind of an it’s-going-to-be-ok moment between John and Ringo. Would try to think of that while playing, then would totally lose focus. Amazing how frustrating this can be, and it’s all self-inflicted and totally addictive!
Have a good holiday everyone, and if you’re in a heat wave like I am, don’t forget to hydrate.

Thanks for indulging me. I actually was going to delete the post since it didn’t really belong, but apparently you can’t after an hour. But if you want to, it’s ok…

48 years ago, (gaaahhh!) I figured out Here Comes the Sun on guitar off the Concert for Bangladesh album (you’re still my favorite, George). I was very proud of myself. Guitar playing ended when I sold it to pay the rent. A couple years ago, I picked up the ukulele, but didn’t do much with it. Then recently, it occurred to me I could adapt what I had from guitar to the uke. I was again very proud of myself. It left me wanting more and inspired me to find RC101.
Not my best effort, and the arrangement still needs work. I’m looking forward to combining it with Andrew’s arrangement to get some of the notes I’m missing. But to do it for this month’s challenge seems to miss the point of the challenge, so I WILL learn and submit one of the other three.
I am posting an abbreviated form of my initial version because after recording and sharing for the first time last month, I’ve realized what a valuable tool it is. I’ve already learned a lot from recording it, but doesn’t really work unless you actually post it, right?
My version is more accompaniment than instrumental, and I will spare you my singing – which is why I probably won’t be submitting Because…
This is purely for me. No need to watch or provide feedback. Thanks for humoring me.

@lakeside339 , becky777 – I used an iPhone 4S with an app called Voice Record. This was my first recording and upload, and between the phone, app, and my playing, it wasn’t great.
It was suggested that going forward, folks post what brand, size, etc. uke they’re playing. I would like to further suggest it might be helpful to know what devices, apps, etc. folks are using.

So I posted Dream a Little Dream on Sunday and have been working on A Thousand Years these past two days with the goal of posting it before the deadline whatever my progress, because the incentive doesn’t work unless you actually post it, right. But it needs a lot of work, and I chickened out.
The good news: I’ve got it memorized.
Bad news/questions: Is there a more detailed lesson on the muting for effect/ease of transitioning between notes/chords? Would like to learn it for the effect, but so far, it’s easier to just play the notes. Maybe I’m trying too hard? Or just need more practice, but I’m not sure what or how to do it. Also, after watching “How to Hold Your Ukulele” I put my strap away. It works fine for first position and Dream a Little Dream, but going up and down the fretboard for A Thousand Years, I just couldn’t move efficiently and keep the uke anchored. Got the strap back out, which made all the difference. Is this a bad habit/crutch I need to get over?
There’s so much to work on beyond these two things. Hard to know how to prioritize. Thoughts?

New to RC101 and intended to start at the very beginning until I saw this challenge. And it has indeed been a challenge learning to play Dream like Matt – 2- and 3-string barre cords, thumbing the whole thing (sounds like a squeegee). Other challenges/accomplishments: my first time commenting on anything other than FB, first time recording, uploading. Hearing myself play has been very humbling indeed. But has made me a better player – even if it doesn’t sound like it. Recording not so great, playing or tech-wise, but hey! I’m in the game!
Pic is my grandaughter (and grandson), who got me playing ukulele in the first place.
Thanks to all for sharing, and for feedback. Very helpful. Great community. Thanks, Andrew, for providing this opportunity.

Help. I’ve never recorded myself or uploaded anything. Using an iPhone 4S and Voice Record. I get it recorded and it sounds terrible. Not just my playing (!), but there is a constant ambient hiss and you can hear me breathing as well as you can hear the uke. Am I not supposed to breathe? Doesn’t sound any better once uploaded. Is this as could as I can expect with this phone and app? Thoughts?
