Does anyone else struggle to memorize arrangements that deviate from the original version “that was planted in my brain and still remains” six decades later? At least my memory of it. That’s my excuse anyway. But mainly no time. Should be better, but so be it. High hopes for next month…

Not my best, but time’s up. The month totally got away from me, and then, well total Dorian prep and anxiety. And now we wait. This is first Low G, and maybe more importantly, my first effort on a tenor uke. Fingers / brain just didn’t have time to get used to the fret distance.
Everyone in Dorian’s path, be safe. How great is it that when the power goes out, we can still strum!lildevil

To paraphrase Stephen King, “short don’t mean easy.” Challenges for me included adapting to 3-finger strumming, 3 STRING strumming, and especially getting up to speed – which I was determined to do. As always, biggest challenge was getting a decent recording. Have opted not to push my luck. Andrew will likely tell me to slow down…

To paraphrase Stephen King, “short don’t mean easy.” Quick to memorize, but I was challenged adapting to 3-finger strum when my hand and brain want to do 4. Then there’s the three STRING strum. Playing cleanly. But the biggest challenge of all was, of course, getting it up to speed. I take it back. The biggest challenge is ALWAYS getting a decent recording. Not real clean, but didn’t want to push my luck. Andrew will likely tell me to slow down, but where’s the challenge in that??

Member@gaberdude, was liking the “life finds a way” tribute, then I saw the end. How can I learn to do that? What would I need?
Very nice tone and playing btw.June 12, 2019 at 1:49 am in reply to: Participate in the June 2019 Member Challenge – LAST Chance to WIN a Kanile’a! #28173lildevil
Member@planetfink. Thanks! White pants might have been a nice touch. And, seeing as how I’m in Florida – though not at the beach – I could have at least gone outside among the flowers and palms. Missed opportunity…

Member@sprintingyogini, @deadbuggy
thank you so much for your comments. Had been alone on this journey, and am thrilled to have found such a supportive community. Hope to give back in kind.
@andrew
Wow. Thank you. No pressure for next month… Still can’t believe I flubbed those last two bars, or that I was willing to post it rather than obsessing over getting ‘a better take’. I’m evolving… Will keep practicing, but I think it’s largely a mental thing, so will work on that too, if I can figure out how.Hope you guys noticed the floral top I had on just for the occasion!

MemberTime’s up. Uke down. New strategy this month. Instead of obsessing on perfecting a really difficult (for me) song – plus the recording of it – all month to the exclusion of all else, I took on a slightly more reasonable challenge and am posting now as is to allow time for lessons, review, practice, and playing just for fun. What a concept!
Totally blew the big finish on my extra credit attempt at a little (very little) creativity. So be it.I am a premium member.

MemberJust to be clear, tonight you belong to me, we can do solo on uke or on real kazoo or voice kazoo, or any combination? And singing along in any or all parts of the song is ok?
Hoping to get this to submission-grade sooner rather than later then move on to #3 or #4. Or both… Love them all…-

MemberStephen,
Thanks for the kind words. I AM hard on myself. Just want so much to get a handle on playing this style of music cleanly etc. Plus, I think I wanted you guys to know that I know my shortcomings. After working on just a few of Andrew’s arrangements, I’m realizing how much each one helps inform the next – very encouraging. And I’m definitely making progress. But that A7sus4 in If I Fell… crammed fingers on tiny frets making it hard to avoid string buzz. would it be cheating to graduate to a tenor??P.S. How do I address a post/comment to people using a link like you all do?

Memberbecky777 – Thanks Becky. And you’re right. I’ve made a lot of progress, and between this community and my yoga class, I’m trying to embrace the journey and be proud of where I am today. Have always been a bit anal and a perfectionist. And you know what they say about being our own worst critics. I worked really hard on playing smoothly and without string buzz or string noise. Rather than being thrilled with what I was able to get right, I focus on the flubs. Probably need more work on my attitude than on my playing!
And robinboyd is right: you’ll get there. We’re all in different places along our paths. And so long was we keep moving forward or at least enjoy where we are, it’s all good.
Soooo glad I found this community.-
