    Hi Class,

    it´s been a while. The kids keep me busy but since I am on parental leave again (for a whole year, yeah!) i am trying to participate every month. Got this one down, let´s see about the others 🙂 It is really challenging for me to play regularly at the moment and when I play I alrady notice the differences. The easy pieces will have to do.

    Here´s my entry for this month:

    Fingerpicking Etude #3

    Thanks for another great challenge, Andrew! I really enjoyed listening to everyone’s performances and this always keeps me inspired to try new things.

    I went with fingerpicking etude no. 6 this month. After recording my take I listened back to the original for comparison and realized I misread the ending lick and memorized it icnorrectly, I skipped a few notes. Anyway, I’ll leave it like that since it doesn’t sound entirely wrong, just different.

    (Please no prize drawing entry for me this month.)

    Here’s what I’ve done with Etude 3. Such a relaxing song to play.

    @lhamilton – Great job, Linda! One tip for Melody B. Try to use more of a claw-shaped strum attack hitting the strings with the nails. This will help you go faster and be more accurate in the attack. Here’s a video showing how the technique mirrors strumming:

    @smokealot
    – Good to see you back, Ulli! I especially loved the triplet picking. Great idea!

    @k_ra11
    – Beautifully played 👏

    @misterbones
    – Excellent playing as always, Michael! 2 suggestions: Bar 2 seemed a bit fast to me. If you listen to how I play it, it’s very slow-rubato-y, which IMO adds more suspense before the melody kicks in in the next bar. It’s the same effect you achieved in 14 sec to 21 in your performance. I’d just do that again in bar 2.

    Watch out for rushing at 24 to 27 seconds.

    @lisadmh
    – Beautiful playing Lisa with very tasteful adaptions!

    Thanks, Andrew! I really like the claw technique and would live to be able to go faster. I’ll definitely look at the video.

    By the way, I’m finding it interesting that I’m finding memorising the monthly pieces is going much faster for me lately than it ever has.

    Hi,
    I am a premium member. Here is my Jan 2023 entry – Etude No 3.
    I just started with Rock Class 101 and this is my very first recording and posting. It took quite a few tries to get it right, hopefully this is ok. I also noticed that the other members YouTube videos showed up as embedded in the post but mine only shows the link. Does anyone know what I need to do to make it show as an embedded video?

    @jvchong I could view it on Rock class sight just fine. Welcome to the group and nicely played. 🙂

    Did you add the link as a hyperlink? Don’t do that. Just add the link as text and it will auto-convert to an embedded youtube clip.

    @jvchong – Beautiful playing! Great first post!

    Couple tips. It looks like your right hand is a bit tight when fingerpicking. Try to loosen any tension. A relaxed picking hand improves dexterity.

    When playing the F chord, try to not touch the bottom of the neck to your palm. Keep it in form 1.

    As far as your embed question, take a look at the post above from @jgillard. He answered it 🙂

    Thanks Andrew for pointing out my problems with the right hand! Appreciate you taking the time to record a video to show the correct form. I made another video after some practice. Hopefully it’s better now! I can feel the difference.

    I chose Etude No. 12 because it was way out of my comfort zone and I wanted a new challenge and I really liked the sound of the melodies. It definitely needs a lot more work and I made some errors in Melody C that I shouldn’t have, but I was so thrilled that I could get through Melody B with some success that I didn’t want to risk any more recordings. I think I need about another year to get success with the correct fingerpicking to build up speed!
