MemberReally enjoyed seeing everyone’s entries so far this month. Well done to all.
I’ll be submitting my Billie Jean entry before the end of the month, so I’d love to see / hear how everyone else is getting on with it. This one’s right at the top edge of my ability. (Actually it’s way over the top edge of my ability but I’ve just counted up the hours that I’ve put into it so far … and it came to three million.) So I might juuuuuust about pull it off.June 19, 2020 at 12:38 pm #38733
peichingParticipantHi everyone
Here is my entry for the June challenge. Thank you Rockclass for these challenges. They help me to focus on one song and to learn the techniques in that song. Otherwise I tend to just keep playing simple melodies and stay in my comfort zone as a beginner for years.
Best wishes

AndrewKeymaster@peiching – Awesome job! Love hearing when you guys step out of your comfort zone. Playing was great! I have two pieces of advice to pass along. First, check out this video that I made for another member the other day. It talks about adding accents and dynamics to this tune. I think that would be great for you to start experimenting with 🙂
Second, check out this short tutorial on triplet rhythm. Just wanna make sure you understand triplets, cause I’m not hearing that rhythm in your playing. And since it’s an audio posting, I can’t see your right hand technique, but you can double check that you are doing it correctly by watching this tutorial on the triplet strum from our Strumming Course.

Hi,
here is my video for June. I tried Stairway to Heaven.
Messed up a little bit in the bridge, but tried my best.Maybe I will post some outtakes of my practice, because I was joined by my cat as a background dancer 😉

MemberHey Andrew,
I tried your advice of lowering the thumb and I can certainly see where it would keep your fingers more curled and not flatten out. Great tip. I’ll definitely keep that in mind going forward.
Hey, thanks for watching and taking the time to post some feedback. It’s much appreciated!
Take it easy,

AndrewKeymasterMy pleasure guys!
@tric_o_tronic – Here’s my feedback for you 🙂June 19, 2020 at 3:05 pm #38740
anirbafParticipant@simonalexander I also tackled billie jean and I think I’ll submit at the last minute ^^ it’s so much fun though, I like it so far (gonna start learning the bridge tonight)

Participant@ Andrew: wow, thanks for the quick and detailed feedback. I chose Stairway to heaven because I thought it will help when you know the song.
I will try to keep the fingers more curved. I try to do it, but during the playing you get sloppy.
And regarding the timing and rhythm advise, when watching the video I heard it, but I wanted to post it because it was overall the best version I recorded. In my other videos I always make on big mistake or suddenly forget how the melody continues. And for me it is a quite long song to learn and remember, so I was happy I finished it.
And that it always one of the main problems: playing “fast” and making mistakes or way too slow but with less mistakes? And then also remembering the whole song while playing and recording. But I will definitely loop the sections and play them in time. I don’t know why but it’s hard for me to switch from the D chord to the F7M in time. when I am in time there is a muted or buzzing sound, when I try slower I am not in time anymore. And when I am still in time, suddenly there is a muted sound when I switch from the 8 to 5.

AndrewKeymaster@tric_o_tronic – I wouldn’t worry too much about minor buzz sounds. I think timing transitions is the area I’d focus most on. But, I also think you should work on some easier tunes. Stairway is a little beyond what I would be giving you to work on if we were in private lessons.

Hi here is my attempt at People are Strange. Until I joined the site I hadn’t tried to learn songs well enough to be able to record them. I found I got to grips with the basics of this in a few days but then its taken hours and hours to be able to play and record a reasonable version. Perhaps with even more hours I could improve a bit – but I feel I need to submit it now and move on. There is a whole website to explore!June 21, 2020 at 6:06 am #38753
rickeymikeMemberVery good, Janet. I will be happy if I can repeat your performance.

Here’s Stairway to Heaven. Enjoyed learning this one. Needs some work still but I won’t get another chance to record before the end if the month.
