    Hi. I’m a basic member. Love the Beatles so this was a great challenge. I bought my first ukulele in October 2021 and practice as often as I can. Here is my submittal. I plan on practicing more but don’t think I could video tape again before the deadline.

    laurajax – Fantastic performance! My suggestion, as you continue to practice, is to work on keeping the flow steady as there’s a few pauses in some transitions. Try breaking your practice into 8 bar sections. That way you can build the song as you go instead of trying to tackle it all at once.

    joe150 – Great job, Joe! You’ve got a great base established. As you continue to practice, I want you to play along with Matt in the tab player. Try 4 bar sections at a time. Focus on keeping the timing steady.

    riley_ukulele – Beautiful performance! Love the build up in dynamics during the chorus. And great tone!

    @qiuyan
    – Beautiful playing! You can def handle the harder songs. Keep up the great work!

    gmflin8 – Excellent performance! I think you’re ready to start building the tempo. Try 10 BPM faster and gradually increase from there. Keep up the great work!

    jebergeron – Well done! Timing and feel are great throughout! There’s really only a few bars that I would target your practice on: bar 3 into 4 in the verse and the first bar of the chorus. There’s a little pause with the transitions there. But overall it was awesome!

    ukandrea – Great job, Andrea! Some of the rhythms sound a little rushed, which is understandable as this song has a lot of syncopation. So I’d recommend breaking it into sections and playing with the tab player. That’ll help smooth out the timing.

    misterbones – Fantastic performance! I also find it difficult to memorize pieces that have subtle variations. Especially classical music. For some reason that genre trips me up more than any other.

    One tip, which is kind of cheating, is that if I was to play one of these tunes in a public performance, I’d forgo all the variations and play each verse/chorus as copy/paste. Some of these pieces are so intricate that I’m not sure anyone would catch the difference if you included them or not.

    brettboy – Great interpretation! I’m not sure which version I like more. The deep tone is beautiful but the opposite is as well 🙂

    jchita – Wow, Julie! I can’t believe how developed your playing is after only 8 months. Timing was excellent, you nailed the playful swing feel and you’ve got a great mix of staccato/sustained chord hits. I’m impressed! Keep doing what you’re doing, it’s working 🙂

    Woo Hoo! I think I actually got pretty close to the target tempo on this one (Yellow Sub). Hope everyone has a good Memorial Day Weekend!

    Here is my version of Yesterday for the May challenge. My goals were to memorize the song and to focus on progress rather than perfection. I recall Andrew’s comments that there really isn’t that much music in this song. But it certainly challenged my skill level. And I think the simplicity of the melody highlights my mistakes. I realize there are plenty of rhythm missteps and hesitations, and I wish my tone was better. I was close to giving up on submitting something, especially as I am out of time and have company visiting. But here it is mistakes and all. I am looking forward to viewing everyone’s submissions.

    And on this Memorial Day Weekend in the United States, I am sending thoughts to veterans, military families, and everyone impacted by war throughout the world.

    Take care.
    Karen

    It’s not perfect. I struggle with a few of the transitions. I’ve enjoyed learning it and this is enough to keep it in my regular practice list so I can really settle on with it.

    Hi,

    I tried Let It Be this time. I don’t think I’ve ever been quite so nervous while recording as this time 🙂

    Had fun learning this one – Yellow Submarine. Another great arrangement by Matt Dahlberg!

    Hi all, this month I am submitting Let It be. What a nice piece of music and so much fun to play. I have recorded numerous takes and have chosen this one which I think it has the least glitches. Thank you for the great song 😆

    @tessiert – Here’s my feedback for you 🙂

    @karenj
    – I thought you played it very well, Karen. Honestly, it just sounds like you need to practice with me in the tab player.

    I like to call it: rinse and repeat LOL. Watch this old video of mine. It’s literally me playing the same part three times in a row with the record.

    But when we play with the music, as opposed to just our self, it helps smooth out timing. And it’s fun to do!

    @lisadmh
    – Bravo! You really impressed me last month and you did it again this month 🙂

    @lhamilton
    – Beautiful playing, Linda! One tip for the nerves. Try hitting record when you sit down to warm up / start playing. Then do a few takes while it’s still recording. Those nerves should wear off after 5 or 10 minutes.

    You can use the same approach if you perform live. Start with an easy song or 2. Then when the nerves wear off, bust out the harder tunes 🙂

    @june2020
    – Excellent take! This is the best performance I’ve heard from you to date 🙂

    My only advice is to work on eliminating the pauses in transitions during the chorus. But overall it was awesome! Keep up the great work!

    @wongbrown
    – Beautiful playing, Sheila! As you continue practicing, try playing 8 bar sections with Steven in the tab player. His playing will act as a guide to help keep you locked in timing-wise. When you feel like you’re glued to him, record yourself playing solo and listen back. When you’ve got perfect timing, move on to the next 8 bars with the same method.

    I chose Yesterday – it was a real challenge, I nearly gave up after the first week… anyway I kept going and got it up to 75% speed. I also managed to memorise it, which was another challenge – you can tell at a few point my brain zoned out! It still needs work…

    Hi everyone,
    I’m really proud that I did “Let it be”. 🙂 Never did a level 4 before. Okay, I admit that I only did the easier part. The whole song will be ready in a few months. 😀 At the moment I’m anyway in the Out of competition section (please no entry for me) so I felt free to play a shorter version. Hope you enjoy.

    End of the month… time to record… I thought of doing more takes to smooth it out but this is pretty realistic 😉

    Admittedly, being only my 2nd fingerstyle, I worked on this mornings and (during lunch break at work) and at night. I probably should have tried the beginner song. After 93 ‘takes’ once I hit the ‘record’ button, I finally settled on one I at least got through entire song. That said, this challenge took my playing to the next level, thank you. I’ll get better at it, and I will enjoy continuing to improve this song : )
    Thank you.

    Thanks, Andrew! I’ll try that. I’m usually nervous when I record but this was more than usual. I’ll definitely try your suggestion.
