AndrewKeymaster@bibilele – My pleasure! Here’s one extra tip I just thought of that can help you too 🙂
And I found a clip of EVH doing this technique. His method is wild! Check it out.

AndrewKeymasterHere’s everyone on page 11.
@suekulele – That was beautifully played Sue! Your pacing is much improved, as is, chord and note clarity. And I saw your note about the barre chords, they don’t look like they are a problem anymore!Truly impressive work. I have to say, I see how often you post performances and snippets on insta. It’s clear to me that you put a lot of time and effort into your musicianship, and it shows! Everyday you are becoming a better musician and it’s inspiring to see!
@lynnzo – Here’s my feedback for you 🙂
@dianna – Let’s talk about both sections separately. Starting with Melody A: Your feel and sustain is incredible now! It’s a huge diff in how you play that section now vs before. Before was kinda staccato-y and the feel just felt off. Now, I feel like I’m listening to a classical record. Amazing!Melody B: This one is tricky to give feedback on because there are so many ways to interpret it as it’s usually played with a lot of liberty. To my ear, you started out strong in the first four bars, but from there, the rhythm feels a little sparse. I’d recommend binging performances on YouTube for ideas on how others approach it. Here’s a great one from Per-Olov Kindgren.
@richard_siegert – I think you smashed your goal of playing it more fluently! You also did a great job of eliminating pauses between transitions, and your fingerpicking skills show a noticeable improvement. I think this was a fantastic take Richard!
@mysticrick – I remember your original take from last year, I really enjoyed it! And your new take? Just as enjoyable! Your fluidity has definitely improved, and the added vocal was lovely. If I were you, I’d add this one to your repertoire when playing for others. I think it’ll bring a lot of joy! 🙂
@bibilele – Here’s my feedback for you 🙂
@janaq1 – I think the biggest difference I hear is how much more confidently you’re playing it, and that confidence pays dividends in so many areas: feel, fluidity, tempo, etc. With these types of tunes – challenging classical pieces – the best advice I can offer is to target your practice on the sections where you want to improve. But honestly, I thought your performance was phenomenal and your progress was nothing short of impressive!April 1, 2025 at 1:45 am in reply to: Participate in the March 2025 Member Challenge – Rewind & Replay! #73378
AndrewKeymasterHere’s everyone on page 10 that I hadn’t gotten to yet.
@karenj – Here’s my feedback for you 🙂
@ldarrow – Wow! You’re playing it so well it looks and sound effortless now! Way to go Linda!
@maryjanew – It’s really cool to watch your practice takes and compare it to your performance. It’s a wonderful way to see where you started at versus ended at. And boy, you’ve got it sounding great! I think you smashed your goal of playing with feel, and you nailed the sweet, sorrow feeling of the tune. Beautifully done, MJ!
@The_Bumble_Bard – Your second point, I had a convo w/ Evan recently about a song we were working on. As you know, he’s teaching the lessons for his arr.’s now, and in one of the lessons, when I was reviewing it, I asked him why he taught a couple sections differently than the tab. He mentioned it was a mistake and that when he performs, he doesn’t think, he just plays. I thought you’d find that interesting.And your first point, I think you should play it your way. It’s okay to adapt pieces or techniques to fit your playing style.
And you played it wonderfully! I loved it!

AndrewKeymaster@johanna2509 – The melody is shining through much better during the strumming sections. Nice job! And you’re fingerpicking that 16th rhythm accurately each time too. Very nice progress! The only thing I’d suggest to work on, is to eliminate the pauses during the transitions in the strumming section.
@abster – That was amazing Abhay! I just sent it to Evan to watch 🙂
@anyon1 – BIG improvement with your H/O & P/O technique. They are sounding spot on now! You played the piece with a great feel and a solid, steady tempo. Excellent work Adriana!
@leb397 – You’ve got it flowing beautifully! I’d call that a big improvement! It was a lovely performance and a pleasure to listen to Louisa 🙂
@frederic – You’ve got that rhythm down now! Excellent fingerpicking and great job on the timing/tempo. You kept it steady throughout!
@nelsonlin2021 – Your dexterity has improved dramatically in both hands. You always had a great feel, but now, you’ve got fluidity too. I’m continually impressed by how fast you’re progressing with your musicianship!March 29, 2025 at 10:35 pm in reply to: Participate in the March 2025 Member Challenge – Rewind & Replay! #73305
AndrewKeymaster@grannieannie – Yes, you can find those 2 links in this post.

AndrewKeymaster@mickan88 – Your tempo and pacing is much better on the retake. It was a flawless performance. Excellent job!
@amspeck – Excellent progress for two weeks, very impressive work Anne! Your playing sounds beautiful! As you continue to practice, try working on one section at a time with a focus on keeping it steady throughout (eliminating pauses in transitions). So for this tune, I would try 4 bars at a time. For ex:Bars 1-4
Once you feel good on those, try 5-8 next. Then go back and try 1-8. Practicing the song in these “bit-sized” chunks helps us get it down faster 🙂
@ukefinlandgirl – Sustain sounds great and you played it beautifully Tara! I do have one suggestion, it looks like your right hand has a bit of tension in it as you pluck. Here’s a video I made a couple years back for another member that shows how relaxed your hand/forearm should be.March 28, 2025 at 5:12 pm in reply to: Participate in the March 2025 Member Challenge – Rewind & Replay! #73282
AndrewKeymaster@keeevo – Your pinky technique is looking way better! Nice work on that! This piece sounded great overall. I know you mentioned the first video was an early take when you were just starting to learn it, but the difference is huge! You’ve got it flowing so beautifully now!
@cimarronsailor – Wow! What a HUGE difference from your takes back in 2022, way to go Lynn! It was an absolute pleasure to listen to!
@leslieb – Amazing progress Leslie! I think you smashed your goals of tempo and transitions. Keep up the excellent work!March 27, 2025 at 10:14 pm in reply to: Participate in the March 2025 Member Challenge – Rewind & Replay! #73278
AndrewKeymaster@henri0 – I don’t think you need the sheet music, you’ve got a great memory! Sounded spot on to me. What I hear is a BIG improvement in your rhythm playing chops. Very well played, Rhian!
@brettboy – I think you nailed the goal of achieving a more soulful performance, Brett. Your pacing feels really emotive, and your left-hand form in the “chorus” section is drastically improved. Those chords are ringing crystal clear now! You’ve put a lot of time into playing over the years, and it shows!March 26, 2025 at 6:01 pm in reply to: Participate in the March 2025 Member Challenge – Rewind & Replay! #73275
AndrewKeymaster@rgillof – You’ve got that bridge sounding good now! Tempo is much better. And the ending chords are ringing clear. I’d say mission accomplished! Well done Rich!

AndrewKeymaster@akukes73 – You’ve got it flowing beautifully now! Sustain sounds great, as does the overall feel. This is a big improvement! The only thing I’d suggest is working on the ending of Melody A. Starting on beat 2 in bar 5, continuing through bar 7. Try to get that phrase to sound a little more legato instead of staccato. Keep up the great work Ash!

AndrewKeymaster@marianne – It’s amazing how expressive your playing has become. A totally pro performance!
@grannieannie – Your fingerpicking chops have greatly improved! You’ve got it flowing so beautifully now, Annie!
@joe150 – Very well played Joe! You’ve got it coming along nicely. Keep working on keeping it steady. Try working on only one section per day.
@marlongas – The new take def has a better, more natural flow. Playing to a click has always been a topic of debate among musicians. Some swear by it, others hate it because it locks you in.
@leihali – Your strumming technique looks AND sounds way better! You’re getting a soft and sweet tone now, which works perfectly for this tune. Well done Kay!
@lyndallk – You aced the vocal! And I agree, it’s much easier to play with feel when not having to also read. And feel, your performance had that in spades 🙂
@nat-uke – I think you aced your goals with note clarity, barre chords, and flow! You’re also holding the uke properly when compared to the first video. That def helps with all of the above. I think the something you’re talking about is the sound of the down strums. In the first take, you play them with your thumb, in the second take, the nail of your index. The nail gives it a brighter sound. But I think you’re controlling the attack perfectly, so it doesn’t sound harsh. -
