AndrewKeymaster@mysticrick – The backing track is awesome, as is your playing Rick! Congrats on finishing the course too!
The one thing I’d point out is the ending lick you play at 48 to 50 seconds. The last bar of the backing track plays on the 5 chord and that lick works over the 1 chord. So that would be the one change I’d make.

AndrewKeymaster@shmu88 – I’d say it was magical! That was awesome Sam! My only suggestion would be to experiment with playing it at a slightly slower tempo. You may find it breathes more.
@leb397 – I loved it Louisa! So beautifully played, I’m gonna share your performance in our newsletter this Friday 🙂
@willw18 – Aced it Will! You play with such great feel and tone!
@anyon1 – Index finger works! The cool thing about playing uke is that there’s so many options available to us in how we choose to play a piece and what matters is using proper form and tone/feel. You nailed both! It was absolutely beautiful played Adriana!
@aletski – Great to see you back Alet! Strumming and chunks sound great! Only thing I’d suggest working on is the ending lick. Try this: loop the last 4 bars in the tab player and try to match my playing as best you can. It’s a little tricky rhythm and feel wise. But that approach should help you get it!February 13, 2025 at 11:22 pm in reply to: Participate in the February 2025 Member Challenge: Strumming or Fingerpicking #65611
AndrewKeymasterWelcome Carl! Below, I’ve embedded a quick video I made for a member a few years ago on how to hold the uke. Additionally, we’ve covered proper holding technique in our Beginner’s Course and in the Classical Course.
But to directly answer your question, Steven is using Form 2, which uses the index finger to help support the neck. We actually had an email come in last month on this topic, and Steven filmed this video talking in more detail about his holding technique. But in a nutshell, he’s using form 2.
If you have any questions, please let me know. And def, please do not use a kitchen mat lol 😂

AndrewKeymaster@The_Bumble_Bard – That sounds really cool so far Rachael! That technique works really well for this tune and I like how you switch out of it at 1:42. Gives the arr. a really nice change in feel and pace.

AndrewKeymaster@joe150 – Very well played Joe! Try memorizing it and singing the words while playing it. That would be a fun way to practice timing 🙂

AndrewKeymaster@emiliano – My pleasure! Our newsletter requires a double opt-in, and it looks like you never completed the second step. I went ahead and took care of it for you, so you’ll receive this Friday’s newsletter.

AndrewKeymaster@emiliano – Wow Emiliano! Incredible playing! You’re 8th note triplet strum technique is amazing. Great feel, timing, and strumming technique all around! I’m def gonna feature your performance in our newsletter on Friday 🙂
I do have a couple suggestions:
Watch the tempo going into section D. And in the last section, the quarter note triplets, you’re playing those as 8th note triplets starting on beat 4.
Quarter note triplets are hard rhythms to play b/c it’s 3 hits split evenly over half the bar. Try playing along with the tab player in synthetic mode with the metronome activated. That should help you get those down.

AndrewKeymasterHi Kasia, it looks like YouTube is having technical difficulties with livestreams today, and Matt’s not able to get it to work. We’re rescheduling the livestream for Thursday at 5 PM ET. My apologies for the inconvenience.

AndrewKeymaster@dhruv123 – Beautifully played, an excellent first post! One suggestion, try to place your thumb slightly above the middle of neck. That will help increase fretting dexterity, making the stretch chords, like: 0015, in measure 6, easier to play. Check out this lesson, it talks in more detail about thumb placement as it relates to proper left hand form.
Hope to see more of your playing in another challenge! 🙂

AndrewKeymaster@gutoguedes – Nicely played Guto! I like how you incorporated strumming into the second half of the tune, it ties in perfectly with this month’s fingerpicking and strumming theme! The one thing I’d suggest working on is lightening your right hand attack when fingerpicking. This is a concept I demo-d and explained in this video a few years back for another member who was learning this song. You can ignore the comments on the left hand in that video.
This was a great first post, hope to see more of your playing in another challenge!
