AndrewKeymaster@grannieannie – Very beautifully played, Annie! I noticed some of the melody notes that should tie from the “&” of 4 into beat 1 of the next measure were moved to beat 1 instead. Try counting and clapping the melody out loud. The syncopation makes this melody a bit trickier, but you’re really close!
@lhamilton – Nicely done, Linda! The banjolele sounds awesome! To my ear, it sounds like the thumb hits on the open G are being rushed a bit. Try playing along at a slower tempo and keeping an eye on that. Also, focus on note clarity – aim to have each note ring out clearly and independently while still flowing into the next.
@jasdel – You nailed it! Perfect feel and timing, excellent performance! ๐
@The_Bumble_Bard – I like your adaption of the piece! Nice mix of melody and harmony Rachael ๐
@mysticrick – Great playing, Rick! I noticed you’re coming in on the same starting point for a few melody notes in the A Melody that I mentioned in my feedback for @grannieannie above. It also sounds like youโre coming in early on the B melody. Try counting during the longer pauses to help you start on the right beat. Additionally, focus on defining that triplet rhythm in the opening phrase.
@hiouke – Beautifully played! โค๏ธ
@santai – Great to see you back Marvin! Playing was wonderful, only thing I’d work on from here is increasing the tempo ๐
@akukes73 – Great playing Ash! To my ear, I’m hearing a slight mix of swing and straight feels during the syncopated parts of the A melody (bars 5- 7). Try playing along with Steven in the tab player for that section and try to match his playing 100%. In bar 14/16/18, try not to rush that first note pull-off.September 30, 2024 at 1:08 pm in reply to: Participate in the September 2024 Member Challenge: Duets! #63898

AndrewKeymaster@brettboy – Awesome playing on both parts, Brett! I noticed just a couple of minor things: In the first A melody, you started the repeat one bar late, and the very last note of the tune was also a bar late. I have to admit, the form of the song is a bit unorthodox, I was actually making similar mistakes when I was writing and practicing it! ๐
@katazumiri – Bravo, brilliant takes Lena! ๐
AndrewKeymasterHi Dennis, check out this product. Back in the day they were made primarily for developing finger strength and dexterity, but the new models included simulated strings. Here is the description they include: “By removing the reversible molded grip you can uncover a simulated string that helps develop and maintain finger calluses for string musicians.”
I had one years ago, but it didn’t have the simulated string feature, so I wouldn’t be able to comment on how well it works.

AndrewKeymaster@bibilele – Your timing was spot on for this song! I’d try to push yourself out of your comfort zone by playing along with a click track that’s a bit faster than what youโre used to. This is the same approach I used with my students when I taught private lessons. I noticed many folks would get stuck in their comfort zone and hesitate to push beyond it. Itโs like going to the gym and only doing curls with 5 pounds, if you never increase the weight, you wonโt see gains. The same applies here.
AndrewKeymasterHi David, I would recommend using a high G uke for that arrangement. It will sound off with a low G.
I used our search & filter tool to populate 19 classical songs that work for low G: https://rockclass101.com/songcategories/?_sft_post_tag=classical+low-g-ukulele. Hopefully one of these catches your ear ๐
