    @firebladetim, hello and welcome! Nice to have you here! I think you’ll find that the community here is crazy encouraging and helpful and I look forward to hearing more of your playing! Agreed with Andrew that your performance in this month’s challenge was fantastic! ๐Ÿ˜Š

    So, I am also mildly obsessed with clawhammer uke. ๐Ÿ˜… What kind of songs do you like to play? I think I only know one actual song originally written as clawhammer, Cripple Creek, and a lot of the other songs I play are beginner arrangements from Rock Class that I turned into clawhammer, or my own simple arrangements that I turned into clawhammer. That said, Rock Class 101 has some amazing arrangements in that style. They’re just harder for me to play because they’re “real clawhammer.” ๐Ÿ˜…

    At some point you should share some of your clawhammer playing here! That would be awesome to hear, especially if you have a banjolele.

    Sorry I rambled about that. I have that problem. Again welcome! ๐Ÿ˜Š

    @leb397, ha, whoops I edited my post with a longer reply. @Andrew can confirm but I’m pretty sure as long as you’re able to upload the file format to YouTube, it should work here because all you’re doing is sharing a link to a video already uploaded there. Hehe, same! I’m going to keep practicing that one. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’•

    Ha oh thanks! I’ll go bother them right away. ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‚

    @leb397, I just checked and Googlรฉ said that .mov files can be uploaded directly to YouTube. I think as long as you’re able to upload to YouTube and share the link here, the file format shouldn’t matter to RC101 as long as it’s a YouTube link that you’re sharing. But then I don’t use many Apple products so I don’t know how you go about uploading to YouTube. If it’s similar to a Windows PC, you should just be able to go to the YouTube app or site and they have an option to upload the video and find the file there.

    Anyway, so sorry you went through that! Your performance was very beautiful! You even nailed that tricky part that Steven said in the lesson, “I can’t even play it meself.” ๐Ÿ˜… @dianna, your performance was also very lovely! We did it! All the other entries were crazy good, too! ๐Ÿ˜Š

    Agreed that some songs definitely take more than a month to perfect, or get close to perfection. Steven’s Always With Me is so beautiful that it’s worth continuing to play, fo’ shizz (for sure). ๐Ÿ˜…

    @Andrew, thank you so much! I really appreciate that; your encouragement means a lot. ๐Ÿ˜Š

    Ha! The first take does sound underwater once again. I thought I’d gotten past that issue, but I was wrong. ๐Ÿ˜‚ I was trying to fix how quiet the recording is but instead it sounds like you’re listening to a robot uke through a wall using a paper cup (all underwater). ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿฅบ Anyway thanks again for the feedback!

    @leb397, thank you so much! Haha, yes, with Always With Me, I’ve definitely felt like I am in “survival mode,” too. ๐Ÿ˜… It’s definitely worth it to keep going with that song, though, because even though my own take still needs work, it’s very satisfying once you (mostly) get it. I’m definitely going to try to remember this one. And thank you for liking the clawhammer POTW! ๐Ÿ˜… It’s so much fun to modify songs in that way for me. Looking forward to your entry, friend! ๐Ÿ˜Š

    All the other Always With Me’s (and all the song entries) are lovely so far! ๐Ÿ˜

    @jbmills07, that was magical! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ’• I think she might’ve been trying to play with you at a few points! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Really lovely performance, too. ๐Ÿ˜Š

    I AM A PREMIUM MEMBER

    Okay… So, here’s the take I’m going with for now. Agreed with everyone else that it’s so hard to play for so long, even two minutes, without making a mistake. That said, I made many. ๐Ÿ˜‚

    Verse 2 is the most mistakey part of this recording, but the rest of it was pretty good, so I also recorded another slightly better take of verse two (I tried to re-record the whole thing again, but I was feeling too anxious to get through it all, so I just recorded the improvements on that little part). I did play the whole thing in the first, longer recording, but wanted a redemption take on that little part. I hope I can actually get another recording of the entire thing, but this month has been a lil’ crazy so we’ll see. ๐Ÿ˜…

    Here’s the redemption take on that little part: https://youtu.be/ihxyVtk1YYQ?si=wskE2gTlHM-w6RrU

    Also, sorry about the recording quality. I tried to fix the first video; the second video shows what it sounded like before I “fixed” it. ๐Ÿ˜…

    Last thing, I tried to do four-finger picking, but I injured my ring finger on my right hand a long time ago and because I have been avoiding using that finger playing uke, I got used to three fingers and it was way more comfortable to play it that way for me, and less painful. I’m going to try to do four-finger picking more often, but it will take time to adapt to that.

    There’s so much more, this song was a journey, thank you for listening and reading! ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ’•

    @shmu88, are you kidding me? That was amazing! I kind of want to cry after listening to that. So good!

    You kept the pace of the song so well which is one of many aspects of that song that is so difficult, the speed. And like @jody_hendrickson, memorizing the song, but I think I’ve finally mostly got that (after also questioning my ability to do so). Still, sometimes my brain glitches out and doesn’t recall the information fast enough in time. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜…

    But with memorizing, I take as much advantage as possible of repeating parts of the song. For me, that’s really helpful. Start small. Once you learn a section, you have it for when it repeats of course. So the best thing to do is to focus on really learning one section very well, then worry about how everything fits together later. Not sure if that makes sense. Just keep going with it and you’ll be surprised at how your brain kicks in (for me, mostly). ๐Ÿ˜…

    I hope I can post my take of that one soon, too. I also have accepted it won’t be perfect but IMO yours was, Shmu (autocorrect wanted that to be “scum”). ๐Ÿ˜… Very well done!

    @Andrew, sweet! Thank you! I thought I remembered seeing that here. I think it stuck in my mind because Katie’s singing was so beautiful in that lesson. ๐Ÿ˜Š

    I also immediately figured out a simple arr. of that one stealing Matt’s riff (?) from Deck the Halls because it sounded so amazing. ๐Ÿ˜…

    @misterbones, you captured the feeling of that one so well! Such a tricky arrangement and you nailed it! ๐Ÿ˜Š

    @rebeca, thank you so much! To me, it’s easier to take a simpler arrangement and modify it than it is to learn an intermediate arrangement “as is.” I don’t know if other people feel that way. I think that makes sense because it’s the difference between having to learn exact notes in an exact way versus just making something up, the latter of which I feel like I’m better at, but more so I just love doing it and it’s exciting to me. But I also really love all the arrangements on RC101 as they are; they are amazing, they’re just harder for me to learn by following the tabs exactly. ๐Ÿ˜… The beginner arrangements are so well constructed that it makes it easier to modify them because you know the material you’re working with is already really good.

    So sorry to hear about your finger! That’s so sad. I hope it heals more quickly than you think. ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ๐Ÿ’•

    @anyon1
    , thank you so much, so glad you liked it! ๐Ÿ˜ And very happy that it’s inspired you. You should definitely look at the course and give it a try, clawhammer is so much fun. ๐Ÿ˜Š

    @Andrew, thank you so much! I appreciate you letting me share these things. ๐Ÿ˜

    @dianna
    , haha, thank you! This has become a thing I like to try with almost every song I learn, a symptom of my CCTS, Compulsive Clawhammer Transformation Syndrome. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜… There might be a better acronym for that. I love doing that though; yes, I think almost any beginner song I could do that with now, which is so strange. ๐Ÿ˜…

    @muzikmama, I think that’s something else, when you strike the soundboard, I’m drawing a blank for what that’s called, other than some kind of percussion, obvs. ๐Ÿ˜… Clawhammer is so much fun, Rock Class 101 has a whole course teaching it and I think it is also a banjo-playing technique. Haha that’s so peculiar, but I guess if no one’s sleeping up there that makes sense to use it. ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜‚

    Agreed, @katazumiri always has such cool interpretations and that one is no exception! So cool. ๐Ÿ˜

    @muzikmama, that stinks, but it makes sense that it would break like that from that height! You stored it on the top bunk of a bed? ๐Ÿ˜… Haha thank you for saying my voice isn’t goofy. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Even though it’s weird because it’s my own voice, I still notice the accent.

    I did manage to snag a recording. It’s not perfectly smooth yet, still some hesitations, but I think it worked pretty well, lol. It’s only the first section.

    Clawhammer is a technique of playing uke where you keep your playing hand in a “claw” shape and “hammer” onto the strings, kinda bouncing your nails off the strings like four cute lil’ trampolines. Then, it sounds bluegrassy. That’s a technical explanation… ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ณ

    @dianna, I’ll have to post the clawhammer version here, since it won’t count as an entry. I don’t want to lose steam with Always With Me by being already “safe” having an entry with Path of the Wind. ๐Ÿ˜‚ I might be able to post that later today. And I agree about voices. Although I’ve realized how bad my Wisconsin accent is now that I’ve been recording myself more (in my ears at least). Arguably one of the goofier American accents. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Yes, @jbmills07 and also all the Rock Class instructors have very pleasant voices and agreed it’s nice to have that more human element to videos. ๐Ÿ˜Š

    @muzikmama, I see what you mean. True, it’s not a big deal if you forget a song. All you have to do is go back and relearn it and it’s way easier picking it back up then. Also, sorry to hear about your uke being broken! It’s kind of crazy that the whole headstock (?) broke off? My main uke has been through some things with me, having been dropped, smacked and spilled on countless times so it’s crazy that yours got so damaged. Sorry about that!

    @anyon1
    , really lovely playing there!! ๐Ÿ˜Š

    @leb397, that’s a really good list! Angels We Have Heard On High would sound lovely on uke. I think Rock Class 101 did an arr of that one maybe?

    I do also like a few modern Christmas songs, like Jingle Bell Rock, but I think I just associate a lot of those with annoying Christmas ads and things. ๐Ÿ˜… Some are fun though.

    A very alternative Christmas song could be “March of the Toreadors,” because nothing says Christmas like bullfighting and homicidal Chuck E. Cheese monsters. ๐Ÿ˜‚

    @jbmills07, ha, thank you so much! That was a good idea, even though I took it in a slightly different direction. ๐Ÿ˜… That’s about the speed I start out with harder songs because I want to make sure they’re right as much as possible and also obviously they’re difficult so that slows the learning a bit. For the record, I don’t always narrate or react to what I’m doing out loud, meaning I sometimes do. ๐Ÿ˜‚ As far as scum mode, I swear there are times when I don’t look (as) bedraggled or like I’m at a slumber party, but that’s just how it times out with recording. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜ณ Anyway, look forward to seeing your and everyone else’s Always With Me’s! ๐Ÿ˜…
