GabyParticipantI am really impressed by all of you. I just cant get though the whole song at once. As soon as im trhough the first half, i get so exited, that i mess up the rest :p
but i will keep practicing. This is the first longer piece i have learned which i wasnt able to memorize so far, but i have to look on the sheet paper all the time. Maybe i can fix that over the next week to concentrate more on my playing instead of the sheet 🙂
GabyParticipantThank you 🙂

GabyParticipantNevermind a few mistakes whilst recording, i do tons of them even without a camera or microphone near me :p
i just can’t get it right but i’m glad that you all seem to do fingerpicking on this one to be honest. I’m just useless with a pick and I thought I would be the only one who wouldn’t use one 🙂
GabyParticipant@ lisadmh: so i have tried the Martin fluorocarbon strings on my everplay soprano Ukulele and i really dislike Them so far and i wouldn’t recomment them or buy them again.
I don’t know if they would be better or more fun on another Ukulele (since i also slightly dislike the one i’ve put the strings on) but i think they do not sound very good compared to the aquilla ones i had on the ukulele before. They are black though, so they get one bonus point for the better look :p
GabyParticipantIn fact i just changed from aquila ew nylgut to martin fluorocarbon yesterday. They feel a bit different while playing i think, but they where still so out of tune all the time, that i didnt really had the chance to compare the sound.
But the little bit of playing while tuning didnt sound that much different to me. But as i said, it wasnt really palyable just yet
Edit: oh and i too have no idea when its time to change the strings. I have played for 1 1/2 years and i have never changed the strings on my first Ukulele for example, i have no idea if i should or how i could tell if should. I guess i will just wait until they break or until i find other strings i want to try just like the Martin ones.
I also kind of like the cheap strings on my cheap Ukulele to be honest. They do sound terrible, but they are thin an they have much more “elasticity” (if thats a word in english :p) than the aquila strings i’ve tried otherwise. I really quite like playing the cheap ones, even if they sound like a dying cat.
I’ve been to a couple of music stores to try and find out if there are better strings out there with this same elastic/thin feel to Them but with a higher sound quality. But the answers i got so far were always something like “soprano ukuleles do sound Bad, you can’t change that with strings” or “get a concert with aquia strings”. I dont think they understood the question though.
So if anyone has any suggestions, im happy to hear Them 🙂

GabyParticipantI also have a concert and a soprano Ukulele. The concert one is of a much higher quality and sounds a thousand times better than my cheap soprano (the first Ukulele i got) and i really enjoy playing it.
But i still like the soprano size better. I just think its even more fun to play a soprano and i really want to try out an even smaller one sometime (i think they are called sopranino or something like that).
I have never tried a Tenor or baritone though. But i will do so, as soon as i get the Chance. And i really need to get me a soprano that sounds a bit better than my current one (although i still love it) 🙂

GabyParticipantThis was so much fun!
The piece turned out to be a bit harder for me to learn than i first thought, and i was thinking about changing it to the first song in week two, but i´m so glad i pulled through! I know its still not perfect. The speed isnt quite right yet and its still not without mistakes (im still working on the D7 part as i´m sure you all can hear), but i´m honestly very happy with how it turned out (and a bit proud of myself too :P)By the way, I really like that we are in on this together and that we are able to see/ hear each others performances of the same songs. I have noticed, that even if its the same song, if its played by 3 different people you get to hear it in 3 different ways. I like how we can learn from each other 🙂
edit: i cant see the first link i put in thispost, so i´ll try again. Please let me know if this doesn´t work.

GabyParticipantI’m practicing Daydreaming and i really like the challenge to “have to” learn a piece in a certain amount of time. What i didnt expect was, how hard it would be :p its not like i’m not getting there (i think). I mean, i have made progress with the song, but it has never before taken me this long to learn a piece – and i’m not even able to play it from start to finish at a reasonable tempo or without mistakes yet.
Also i found that some notes are easier for me, if i play Them differently from the chart. Still the same notes, but on different strings.. I hope that is okay? I dont know if these exercises are meant to be done “the easy” way.
But its really a fun way to learn either way 🙂 and i hope i will be able to put the whole song together soon 🙂

GabyParticipantI’m really excited about this! I love the idea behind these challenges so much 🙂 the prizes are cool and who wouldnt want to win one of Them, but i really like the idea of trying to reach a goal together with the rest of you.
I have never really tried to learn a new piece or technique with a deadline. Its really fun and motivating. I hope i will be able play the song that i chose by the end of the month. We’ll see 🙂
GabyParticipantThank you, i will look into that 🙂

GabyParticipantI guess this topic is as good as any for a first entry 😉
I thought about getting a baritone Ukulele, because i thought it could be really fun add a really big one to the family. The problem is, I really would like to keep the standard g-c-e-a tuning. So my question is, is it possible to tune a baritone ukulele like that? By using Tenor strings maybe?
