GabyParticipantI cant wait to hear it Lisa ๐ i think its exciting that you write your own music! ๐
GabyParticipantI found the Chords here https://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/tab/katzenjammer/lady_grey_chords_1681620
It works great with a simple down down up up down up strum ๐ I dont have anything on how to pick this song though. Sorry.

GabyParticipantI love this challenge! I dont think that i will get around to participate in the given time but i am really inspired by all your ideas and what you want to work on. There is just so much to learn and so much you can do. Its a bit overwhelming too to pick one thing out of all the things i dont know how to do yet :p I probably should pick something to practice on. Tempo, a back beat, a Kind of strum.. But now that there are some who are trying to do their own arrangement, it really got me motivated to try and do the same ๐
As i said, i probably wont be able to do it as a part of this month challenge. I dont know how much time its gonna take, how my approach will be or even if i will succed and actually do a full arrangement. But i really want to try, thanks to you all!
I will follow this challenge though. Im really looking forward to all your results! (Especially the greatest showman tune ๐ )
GabyParticipantHey Rickey ๐
Second Ukulele: It seems you have fun playing the Ukulele and that you dont plan on stop playing it soon, so i would say if you can afford it, go for a second, higher priced Ukulele! As many others said, try different sizes and get you something you like, its worth it! ๐
Low G: I have tried a low g on a (very cheap) soprano once. It didnt work at all. It sounded horrible and made terrible buzzing noises.. But i can See others could make it work, so maybe this particular Ukulele was just not right for it..
Either way, dont be afraid of the low G! You can order/buy them in single packages, so you actually dont have to buy a whole new set of strings or change all the strings, just to try the low g (though you should maybe, if the strings a older).
You could just change the g string to a low g and try it out, See if you like it. If not you just change back to a regulรคr high g again. It often sounds like “a low g Ukulele” is some special Kind of Instrument, and as if you only could use a low g on it, but you can put whatever g string you like and change whenever you want to ๐

GabyParticipantI have had the same Problem a few times, when trying to play chord melody.. But i just used to change the Chords so they fit the melody until now. For example by not playing all the strings or by changing a G7 to a G or a C7 to a C if thats what i needed.. Maybe its not the Perfect or correct way to do it, but sometimes it works fine. But im interessted to learn more about it too, so i’ll take a look at those links. Thank you Andrew ๐
GabyParticipantThank you ๐
I have also tried to make a few tiny changes to a few Songs i have learned here and there. Changed a note or the way to play it and i really think it is fun to change an arrangement a bit so it fits your playing or the way you like to hear the song.
But my changes are always based on playing around and just trying, not on actual “knowing what i’m doing”.. I would like to try and change that a bit in the future ๐
GabyParticipantLove this topic ๐
I havent thought about it as New years resolutions (since i dont do those) but its the time for it so why not ๐ i have wanted to learn a bit more about the music theory behind the playing, and finally finish some of the courses on here. Until now i have mainly learned Songs, whitch is fun and i love it! But i would like to be able to understand the music i am playing a bit better and maybe even be able to figure out something like a simple Chord melody version of a song i like ๐
Oh and i will try to pick my “Ukulele aerobics” book up again to just learn and do a few techniques and train my fingers, not only by playing Songs.I think my goal is to not only learning a bunch of Songs and be able to play them, but to also understand them and develope a better technique for playing them ๐ … We’ll See how that is going to work out for me ๐
GabyParticipantThe set list is really impressive! Especially if you have memorized it all, AND played it in front of other people. Im still learning to play in front of family or the microphone, let alone people from work. Well done! ๐

GabyParticipantI AM A PREMIUM MEMBER
Hello everyone! Great entries so far, i really enjoy the christmas spirit ๐
I havenยดt had the time to participate in a while (..or i didnยดt take the time..) but i just had to learn the first Noel. Its one of my favourite christmas songs ๐ So this is the best i could do in one go, in front of a microphone ๐Please let me know if the link shouldnยดt work, thank you ๐
And merry christmas everyone!
GabyParticipantJust real quick-
– i will not get a u-bass in the near future.
– i honestly thought, that you could play almost any Song with either a high g or a low g and that you just had to buy some low g strings to turn your Ukulele into a low g one.. But now it seems as though its a whole different Instrument..? Well my plan is to get me some low g strings just to try it, so i sure would like some low g lessons and learn something more about that ๐
– i really would love to be able to say that i already completed several of your courses, and that i improved imensly after that. But honestly, as soon as i have got the time to play, i mostly just pick a song to learn. which is great and so much fun! But i really would like to improve my skills, so i will try to look info those lessons as well!
– i love that all the Songs/melodies i learn from here are playable without singing! So if you want some suggestions on that part, i’d like something from Disney, but i also enjoyed the classical pieces so far, like ode to joy or fรผr Elise. Im always up for something like that.
So i am exited for what is to come in the next months! I have not been on here for very long (and didnt have as much time for my Ukulele the last few Weeks as i would have liked) but i really enjoy this site, the Songs, the learning, the community and so on. Keep up the good work, its highly appreciated ๐

GabyParticipantNice performances so far, and so early into the month! I’ll try my luck with Waltz in c.. I hope that i get enough time to practice and that i’ll be able to record it. Its such a long piece to play :p but i really like it, so i will try and see what happens over the next few weeks ๐

GabyParticipantthank you for your feedback! ๐ I played this one with my thumb only instead of four fingers (i guess i thought that would be the alternative to use, because i cant figure out how to use a pick). So I think that could have caused some of the “messy” playing. Oh and I wanted to play it fast of course ๐
But I will try to break the next tune into smaller parts while i practice, because you are right, often I just practice the whole song from start to finish.
Thanks again ๐
GabyParticipantI would love to learn this theme! ๐

GabyParticipantIยดve worked harder on this than i care to admit ๐ I couldnยดt get a recording as good as I wanted to, but after so many attempts that Iยดve lost count, I just stick with this as the best one Iยดve got. I know the tempo isnยดt that great and it changes, i do not hit every note and so on, but I really enjoyed to learn and practise this song… to the point that I got to annoyed to try anymore today ๐ so this is what you get ๐
Oh, I want to add, that I donยดt want to participate in the giveaway this month, since I donยดt have a Ukulele to use straps on. And I donยดt think I would be a very good “strap player”, since Iยดm always sitting down playing. So I donยดt want to take the chance of winning away from anyone else who actually would use one of these (very nice looking) straps ๐
