miztakenParticipantI just have a piece of corflute which I clip on to my music stand.
I can get 7 sheets on it.
No page turning, no batteries 😁(When not in use, I store it down the side of a bookshelf)
miztakenParticipantI am in Sydney.
I usually have my instruments on stands in our dungeon music/craft room.
It is nice and stable temperature and humidity wise down there.
They are solid wood, and I have no problems with them. I may have to retune a little as the instrument warms, but that’s about all I do.Even in the lounge upstairs, I tend to leave them on stands, but out of the sun and not directly under the aircon flow.
If I don’t have them easily accessible, then I tend not to play/learn as much.
I have some gorgeous instruments (my opinion), but we have a more temperate climate in Sydney with more gradual changes in humidity and temperature so the woods can expand and contract slowly (unlike Tassie).
And I will never hear the minute difference in tone produced by the wood being slightly drier or more humid.July 4, 2020 at 9:43 pm in reply to: Participate in the June 2020 Member Challenge – LAST CHANCE TO WIN Kanile’a! #39394

miztakenParticipantThanks for the feedback @AJ (you are way too kind).
I had been studying YOUR hands and at least managed to get rid of my usual extravagant and awkward hand flourishes… now to work on those picking flourishes… one more step forward.BTW… AWESOME arrangement (and even my “other” music teacher thought it was a great arrangement).
miztakenParticipantI have an Ohana concert quilted eucalyptus (my eucalele) which I love, it is one of my top two.
And I have recently ordered an Ohana long neck soprano.
Both from Mike at Uke Republic.
They are very good ukes, and do come with a set up from Mike.
However… my eucalele required a second setup for my requirements for finger style playing…
and then further bridge adjustment because the bridge had been placed incorrectly so the A string was always out of tune no matter what I did, plus a third setup to balance the repair.
And this was one of their top price instruments!!!
But now… it is perfect 👌, so worth it in the long run.
I will be getting a full setup for the soprano when it arrives as I find store setups are for strumming only, and really don’t work with my fingerstyle playing (or I don’t work with the setup ;D ).But really, they are pretty good mid range instruments.

miztakenParticipantI AM A PREMIUM MEMBER.
Today is not a good day for playing, so this is my attempt at People Are Strange.
(I had not previously learned it as I thought, only new Part A so heaps of learning and 100s of repetitions.)
Please excuse my playing flubs but today will not get any better.June 24, 2020 at 3:01 am in reply to: Participate in the June 2020 Member Challenge – LAST CHANCE TO WIN Kanile’a! #39048
miztakenParticipant@Andrew and @uku_on this happens to me too at times, I just thought it was my computer/internet connection needing a refresh because I have completely confused it, so that is all I do to “fix” it.
It tends to happen when I play something over and over, and constantly re-start at different points in the tab viewer. So @uku_on … just hit refresh every now and again.
miztakenParticipantHi @samuel-ar
Welcome to the best uke school (well, at least we think so).
The learning opportunities here are amazing, with wonderful arrangements and great teachers, and with your level of English (which is very good) you will have no problems with the lessons.
Enjoy!!!
miztakenParticipantLook up Garam Jeon on YouTube.
She plays uke Jazz, does a few tutorials and frequently uses a arrangements by Korean jazz uke player (he does have a book, I don’t know his name… it is somewhere in the videos).
Do an internet search: Jazz ukulele book.
There are some good options there.
miztakenParticipantIf you have a very fine file, you can gently and slowly file the nut to fit the string.
Or take it for a set up and they will do it for you.June 13, 2020 at 4:52 am in reply to: Participate in the June 2020 Member Challenge – LAST CHANCE TO WIN Kanile’a! #38621
miztakenParticipantWow @rebeca that is an awesome job!!!
(and I LOVE that right hand work, so tidy and so controlled!)
miztakenParticipantAndy!!!
That is gorgeous, your technique is fantastic.
Thanks for sharing.June 1, 2020 at 9:38 pm in reply to: Participate in the June 2020 Member Challenge – LAST CHANCE TO WIN Kanile’a! #38263
miztakenParticipant@johnnyrotten “Ohana” Ukes are very good instruments at reasonable price too.
(I have just bought a second Ohana this week to add to my collection).
But really, take a look through what is available at Uke Republic, and check out the videos too for comparison (not perfect, but better than nothing).
I am sure you will see something worthy there.
(Or there is Mary Jane’s tenor with low G. 🙂 )June 1, 2020 at 9:25 pm in reply to: Participate in the June 2020 Member Challenge – LAST CHANCE TO WIN Kanile’a! #38261
miztakenParticipantGreat song choices Andrew!!!
“Careless Whisper” is a beautiful arrangement, but it will take me 400 weeks for me to get it worthy of submission.I am going for “People are Strange” but, as I have already learned it, this challenge will be for me to play in time and close to perfect, improving my style etc.
Yay.
