Thanks for your feedback @Stephen… and bugger! because it had been pointed out to me on Wednesday that I was rushing measure 13 etc, I had even highlighted the phrase, and STILL forgot and let my poor habit rule. Back to practice, and correction – but as this number will remain in my repertoire, it WILL be fixed.

BTW, thank you @RC101 for your incredible feedback to us all. Even when dealing with a negative in our playing, you are so positive and encouraging at all times and keep driving us to improve one step at a time. You guys ARE incredible.

    I AM A PREMIUM MEMBER.

Out in The North, thanks Tobias for a beautiful arrangement.
80bpm, beloved aNueNue Moonbird concert uke with (of course) Living Water strings.
Not perfect, but not bad at all AND I GOT that harmonic!

My aNueNue Moonbird came with the black clearwater strings – they were really lovely too, and very flexible, even more so than the Living Water strings. I would slide off the neck on the A string a lot more with them (undoubtably my technique).
I found it difficult to get replacements to Australia, hence changing to Living Water ones.

I reckon you would be very happy with either of these.

I take it that you mean “flexible” strings?!? I love the “Living Water” fluorocarbon strings. Great sound, easy slide, the low G has an awesome guttural boom (especially on my Moonbird).

    I highly recommend them.

I have a few well learned tunes that I keep for warm ups, and for those times when I just am not interested. I have just come out of a FOUR month period where I have struggled with interest and wanting to learn. These tunes meant that I could still pick up a uke and spend just 15 minutes doing something musical, and maintain my calluses.

Coming back into enjoying music again, I picked easier songs BUT they had to be tunes I really wanted to play eg. Ode to Joy. With this tune, my brain was tricked into thinking “oh, this is easy to learn and to play!”
And then I went on to favourite songs only, not challenging pieces eg. Mad World (thanks Matt), and Harvest Moon.
My music teacher also insists on slowly, slowly… as does Andrew really. Go slow to really learn the fingering and rhythm patterns again, and build up those calluses.

    Hi @joe150
Nice work, it’s easy to see that you have put a lot of effort into playing this piece.

Some tips for recording: I think you are using your phone?!?
    1. Make sure you remove the cover for recording, it often interferes with the microphone.
    2. You already had volume up high as possible – good one!
    3. Make sure your phone is laying SIDEWAYS so that the microphone is not blocked by whatever the phone is sitting/ standing on.
    4. Have the phone at the uke BODY, not the neck, and with the microphone pointing towards you. And bring it closer for better pickup.

I learnt all these little tips thanks to many poor quality recordings, interspersed with a lot of #%+*€##* in between takes 😀

Try it next time, and see if it improves your sound.

(I have added a picture so you can see what I mean)

Mike at Uke Republic, Atlanta is really, really good. (He sponsors the challenges here).
I think it only cost me US$75 for my Eucalele plus hard case to Australia. I think that was a very fair charge, he doesn’t profiteer from delivery.

@robinboyd I am attempting the Hawaiian triple strum (as endorsed by Tobias Eloff, Kimo Hussey, and MOST importantly by Kalei Gamiao 😁😁😁). That one I could pick up from Tobias’s explanations, but some of his other techniques and instructions just leave me swearing 🤬. I shall have to pass on them… there are some challenges not for me, yet.
So I shortened one of my uke stands instead, that calmed me down because I was more scared of the Dremel metal cutting blade sparks than Tobias’s beautiful but complicated techniques.
Good luck to us both… one bar at a time.

@robinboyd pleased to know I was not alone!

Unfortunately… I mastered the melody only on day 1, and chord/melody today. So, now I have to work on the performance piece for the rest of the month to try and make it beautiful.
Beloved Husband is surprised that I want to do the “harder” version. But really, I want to improve technique… speed will come on it’s own.
