miztakenParticipantI have found my mobile phone records way better than my laptop, and then I just airdrop it to my laptop.

miztakenParticipantWow Myc!
That is lovely – I can’t believe you can achieve that on a broken uke!!!
Awesome work, and good luck.-

miztakenParticipantAndrew – I go through the strings and hit wood – is this incorrect form?!?!
miztakenParticipantOMG that can only get better!
miztakenParticipantHi Andrew!
Today I started your beginner lesson on adding a backbeat to my playing.
I have been in tears over it!!!
I used to play the air-tambourine because that was the only instrument that I was confident with, and it would have my family in hysterics, crying with laughter (I felt they were insensitive and quite rude).
I could even cause near-accidents if my husband would catch me out of the corner of his eye whilst driving.
I was that good.
And now you have me adding a backbeat to my playing… this time I am in hysterics, this is waaaay better than air-tambourine!
And I am going to share it with you because you should see what you have caused… complete dis-synchrony.

miztakenParticipantHi Malachi,
I have a Mahalo tenor uke, now on loan to a friend (hopefully until it dies! the uke, NOT the friend).
When looking around when my uke began seriously warping at the bridge, I found out that the Mahalo are a fine uke for beginner level only, they don’t seem to be good enough for what we want to achieve with Andrew’s classes. They are not bad instruments, just: not good either.
Try getting it set up, but I think that may just be a waste of $$$.
I would recommend buying another, (sell yours to a beginner), or waiting for Christmas, or just winning the Kanilea!
miztakenParticipantHi Becky!
There are quite a lot of us who are “kind of old”, but we all love the Kid Andrew’s method of teaching.
You are right about his no-stress manner of teaching… and it is so easy to just press pause when his fingers go soooooo much faster than your own. 😉
This is such a lot of joyful fun, and you get to learn to make lovely music as a bonus!
And most importantly – at your own pace.
Have fun.October 18, 2018 at 9:43 pm in reply to: Participate in the October 2018 Member Challenge – WIN a Kanile’a Ukulele! #19145
miztakenParticipantI love seeing all that you guys are achieving – it is so impressive!!!
And so inspiring too!
Good luck to you all, a beautiful prize for someone out there…even though it is brown! 😉
I shall continue lurking, watching, and admiring your work…
miztakenParticipantcrazihippichic – I love the bling too!
I just hope it makes my playing look as good 🙂
miztakenParticipantrobynboyd – I have sent an email asking what they mean by quilted eucalyptus, and if it IS Australian – but that is all. Didn’t think to ask what type of eucalyptus…
miztakenParticipantThanks Andrew… I am working you out.
Usually, I just press pause while I practice what you are telling “me” to do. (Although I do admit to cursing you quite often before pressing pause 🙂 )
And “Hi” back to Mike… IF we come to Atlanta for husband’s work (later this year)… I will be dropping in to say it personally.
…and maybe lessons…?!?!…
miztakenParticipantDeadbuggy – THIS one.. because it is beautiful, and not brown (I just have to decorate brown ukes so they are not brown any more), and Mike makes it sound lovely.
Eucalyptus – because I am from Australia, lots and lots of gorgeous abalone front and back.
If I don’t sound just like Mike or Andrew… I will just have to practice more.

miztakenParticipantAnd I will continue it…
My problem is boobs – they just get in the way! And cause Short Arm Syndrome.
I think I require a modified uke, cut away in the back to fit the anatomy.
🙂
miztakenParticipantdeadbuggy – that is a beautiful instrument!!!
I can’t hear it, but boy – it sure looks fine!
I already have uke-envy – can’t wait to hear you play (video, maybe?!?)
miztakenParticipantHi Lyndall! Nice to meet a neighbour!
I go to a Sunday uke gathering at a local pub, but I really do not enjoy it much.
I joined to “out myself” – play socially, but the one strum / sing-a-long at the top of your voice just frustrates me. NOT everyone should sing – and I am definitely one of those who SHOULD NOT sing… ever!
I also struggle with all songs being transposed to simpler chords for the uke, and not played in the original key. I changed my uke to sound more like a guitar (changed the high G string to a low G string), and play to my music in the original key.
I think Andrew’s lessons will get me where I want to go… somewhere with melodies and harmonies and awesome picking techniques (which I can then extend to my beautiful banjolele), and my awful singing shall only be heard deep within the confines of our basement music room (as it should). -
