nat-ukeParticipant@the_bumble_bard – Yes, lots of interesting choices. I’ve decided already – I’m going to stretch myself and learn “The Skye Boat Song”. I’ve never heard it before – it’s beautiful! And my husband was listening while I was playing through the options and now he wants to learn it on guitar. 😄 I heard Andrew say 40 measures, but when you look at it, there’s a fair amount of repeat, so I’m thinking – yes, doable! Bring on the barre chords!
Which are you thinking of doing this month? P.s. I loved your entry last month and your singing! 👏👏
And yes I agree, that is one drool-worthy instrument – look and sound. 🤯 it will be taunting us every month with its beautiful pic on the forum.

nat-ukeParticipantHi All – I also worked on “Winter Glass” this month. Cool little song (get it?) haha.
I don’t feel like this is my best work, but I enjoyed learning it and thinking about its composition. I draw the line at 7 recording attempts – so this is my submission! (my little stumble on the pull off at the very end – I forgot where I was for a micro second – oh…so close!)March 15, 2026 at 10:53 am in reply to: Participate in the March 2026 Member Challenge: WIN a $129 Ohana Ukulele #80131
nat-ukeParticipantWow – every submission has been awesome. I’m also working on Winter Glass. @The_bumble_bard – beautiful piano. I like the hint of using AI to suggest a first crack at those notes. Very pretty singing too -“whispery” fits the vibe.
@abster – wow look at you – nice expression and the rit at the end. That reminds me to do the same. I’m so excited to get to the end I forget to do that. lol p.s. that was definitely “smile worthy” at the end! (Your smile)
@marianne – very inspiring. So beautiful. It shows how different a piece can be from one to the next musician with how they add feeling. Playing the notes vs feeling the notes. Working on that! And @misterbones – beautiful musicianship to put that together and figure out the solo. It was beautiful to listen to.
I’m going get serious with mine – month is half over.
You guys are so inspiring!

nat-ukeParticipantHi All – I almost didn’t post anything this month because I wasn’t very happy with it. But then I realized, it’s about progress, not perfection, so – here it is. I choose “Spanish Romance” which was, I think, perhaps the first time I’ve attempted a ‘level 2’ song. It was a bit of stretch, but I enjoyed the point of learning to play with expression – like using rubato, vibrato and dynamics. I struggled with muting of strings in some crammed places, but I was happy with the expression part of it and honestly amazed I could memorize the piece.

nat-ukeParticipantLoving everyone’s “Tennessee Waltz” performances. What a great arrangement.

nat-ukeParticipant@marianne – wow, love it! (And it’s not even the middle of the month and you’ve posted) Well done!

nat-ukeParticipant@katazumiri – that was super cool! Everything sounded so nice together. The recorder was a nice add. I did my submission with a tenor recorder and I intended to add a track with soprano recorder also to give a more distinct difference in tone. I was tired of fiddling with video editing at that point though, so will save that for another time. Nice job and great video work too!

nat-ukeParticipantHi All –
This month I learned Kemp’s Jig and as mentioned in my first post, I’ve also started messing around with the recorder. I chose this song because I thought it suited the combo of uke and recorder. I’ve recorded once with Low G uke and then again with the tenor recorder, then merged the two videos together. I figured out I had to lower the volume on the recorder track so that the uke was the main star, but you can still hear the recorder gently accompanying on theme 1 and theme 3. This was fun. Now to go back and get caught up with seeing what everyone has done this month!

nat-ukeParticipant@bohemiancoast – I’d not heard that song before and just pulled it up. That is a very pretty choice. Nice that it is 3 times with variation for note length. Enjoy!

nat-ukeParticipantHello – here’s to a happy 2026 all!
1. Execution: I’ve (very) recently picked up the recorder to learn and attended a half dozen group classes locally. I enjoyed it so much, that I just bought a tenor recorder (which needs a slightly different technique so I’ve had to go backwards and work on producing good sounds again). I was looking for a song that would be suitable for both ukulele and a recorder. I found “Kemp’s Jig” on RC101 that fits the vibe perfectly. What a jaunty little song! My goal is to learn Kemp’s Jig (arrangement on RC101) on both the low G uke AND the tenor recorder.
2. Application: I will learn Kemp’s Jig on both LowG and tenor recorder and aim for a fairly sprightly tempo. I will produce a video where I accompany my uke with the recorder. (also working on my video editing software skills). It’s a fairly straight-forward song, but learning it on two instruments and pace will be the challenge for me I think.
3. Evaluation: I intend to learn the arrangement on both instruments the first week of January, then spend the 2nd and 3rd weeks working on fluency and speed on both instruments. 4th week I’ll record and create the merged video.
Excited to see what everyone is going to be working on to get off to a good start in 2026.

nat-ukeParticipant@deadbuggy – cool, I wondered what you choose! I missed the posting of this lesson. Just started it. Love the high and low G duet. I love the sound of mandolin. Great job combining it all together so quickly.
